If you’ve been to Leavenworth in the winter, you’re probably familiar with the annual Christmas tree lighting. What you might not know is that Leavenworth is just as charming in the summer months—especially if you love theater!

At Leavenworth Summer Theater, the hills come alive with the sounds of musical theater each year. Hatchery Park Stage and Leavenworth Ski Hill Amphitheater boast live orchestras with a breathtaking backdrop of Icicle Ridge—you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the Swiss Alps.

While the theater produces different shows every summer, The Sound of Music is considered a Bavarian Village Classic, performed each year. In the past, shows have included Annie, Bye Bye Birdie, Singing in the Rain, and so much more, so you can always count on an evening of family-friendly entertainment under the stars. The outdoor summer theater season lasts from July to early September.

Where can I buy tickets?

Tickets can be purchased by phone, online, or in person at the box office, located at Icicle Village Resort on Highway 2 in Leavenworth.

How much are they?

$14, $25, or $32, depending on your desired seating location. Unclaimed patron seats (the first rows of the front section) also go on sale for $35 per ticket at 11:30 a.m. the day before the show.

Are kids allowed?

Anyone aged six years and up is welcome to attend. In order to ensure everyone enjoys the show, children five years of age and younger are not permitted. The theater also encourages giving yourself and your fellow theater-goers plenty of time to arrive and get comfortable in your assigned seats, so you won’t miss any of the night’s performance!

There’s nothing like a live performance under the stars on a clear night. Dry summers in this area of Washington mean Leavenworth Summer Theater rarely cancels performances due to rainouts—though be prepared with jackets and hats when the mountain air cools at nightfall. A bout of rainfall won’t stop the show, and you can purchase a rain poncho for $1 if you’ve left your raincoat at home.

In the event that inclement weather puts a damper on the night, your refund will be managed through the box office. In most cases, however, the show must (and does) go on!

Leavenworth Summer Theater produces shows on two different stages. The Sound of Music takes place at Ski Hill Amphitheater, just off Front Street. Hatchery Park Theater, where the other shows are staged, is located just two miles from the center of town. Free parking is available at each location.
