Does it seem to anyone else that your alone time has been hijacked?
Between work, family obligations, and phones constantly buzzing with new push notifications, it’s almost impossible to get a second to yourself. Often, to get a bit of peace and quiet, you have to go off the grid entirely—not an easy feat in a world of relentless digital feedback coming in every few seconds.
In my industry—the world of vacation rentals—WiFi is a must-have. Guests expect it, and at Vacasa, we strongly recommend the owners of our vacation homes provide it. But sometimes, it’s nice when home can remain a true escape. And those are the exact places I am craving for a weekend getaway to escape the noise.
Need an armchair escape right now? Tour my own personal bucket list of WiFi-free homes, ideal for a weekend retreat!
Cabin in the Woods – Easton, WA
This intimate A-frame is just east of Snoqualmie Pass in Washington state, and it tops my list for a couples getaway—or better yet, a solo writing retreat.
Shasta’s Moon – Big Bear Lake, CA
Unplugging shouldn’t have to mean roughing it! I love that this cozy little cabin just half a mile from the ski slopes at Big Bear also comes with a killer kitchen.
Twin Tree Cottage – Idyllwild, CA
Did you know that there’s a rugged little mountain town tucked between LA and Palm Springs, complete with a vibrant year-round theater scene, hiking and mountain biking, and snowshoeing? Me neither, until my colleague Rachael introduced me to Idyllwild. Now, I can’t wait to visit, and I have my eye on our Twin Tree Cottage. No Internet and no cell service—just what the doctor ordered!
Riverglen on the Columbia – Stevenson, WA
Stevenson is just about an hour away from my hometown of Portland, so when my colleague Becca shared this home as one of her favorites, I bookmarked it right away. It’s hard to decide what I love more: the custom-made bridge over the railroad tracks or the soaking tub in the master bathroom. This is also one of the only waterfront homes in this section of the Columbia Gorge, which puts this one high on my list.
Everwell Bay Retreat – Coeur d’Alene, ID
This retro cabin just speaks to me. Those views, that decor, and the utter peace and quiet of Lake Coeur d’Alene. For peaceful reflection, nothing beats a wraparound deck on the lake if you ask me.
Contemplation Haven—Westport, CA
Epic views, an amazing location on the quiet Northern California Coast, and absolutely no Internet or cable TV. Does it get any better than this?
