1. Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach is one of the Oregon Coast’s most iconic beaches, and luckily for your four-legged friends, it's also just as famous for its pet-friendly shoreline. The city follows Ocean Shore rules, meaning dog leashes are not specifically required, though physical control of your pet must be maintained. Leave footprints and pawprints in the sand as you take in views of Haystack Rock (featured in The Goonies) or enjoy a picnic by the dunes. Downtown is just as relaxed, with many shops and art galleries keeping water bowls by their businesses for any dogs that need a quick drink. On the other side of Ecola State Park, you’ll find Seaside Beach, another favorite pet-friendly, off-leash beach. Stroll Seaside’s Promenade, take on the scenic hiking trails, and explore the tide pools near Haystack Rock.

Travel tip: Visit the coast in October and check out the annual Cannon Beach Dog Show. Seaside also hosts a Corgi Takeover Day, with proceeds donated to the Oregon Humane Society.

2. Manzanita

Though Manzanita doesn’t see as many crowds as Cannon Beach, it’s a favorite spot for quieter days without compromising on a pet-friendly beach or things to do. Let Fido take in ocean views off-leash (but stay close by) and feel your worries fall away with the breeze. Nehalem Bay State Park is a great place to get your steps in, with hiking trails you’ll both enjoy, as well as views of the Pacific Ocean and the Nehalem River. After a long day of adventure, grab a bite at the San Dune Pub’s patio and take your pick of dog-friendly hotels and vacation rentals in town.

Travel tip: As a bonus, plan your trip to the Oregon Coast in time for Muttzanita, Manzanita’s annual dog festival in September.

If you and your pooch are adventurous types, Yachats might be just the place for your Oregon Coast vacation. The area has plenty of pet-friendly activities and a relaxing landscape that’s best explored together. Cape Perpetua boasts ocean views and geological attractions you’ll have to see to believe, like Thor’s Well, the Spouting Horn, and Devil’s Churn. Sightsee from a safe distance on the hiking trails and commemorate your trip with a photo at the Cape Perpetua Overlook. Sands Smelt State Park (which has an on-leash policy) and the Yachats Farmers Market are also worth a visit as you cruise down Highway 101.

4. Florence

Florence shares its Oregon Coast shoreline with the Siuslaw River and rests just an hour and fifteen minutes from Eugene. Here, you and your furry friend will have a front-row seat to water views and coastal wildlife. Though the city’s famous Sea Lion Caves aren’t pet-friendly (with the exception of service dogs), you can catch a glimpse of sea lions, as well as views of the Heceta Head Lighthouse at the Lighthouse and Sea Lion Beach Vantage Point. Darlingtonia State Natural Site is also a great dog-friendly place to spend your day, where you can stroll the boardwalk through protected bogs and botanical gardens. Grab dinner at any of the city’s dog-friendly restaurants including the Bay Street Grille and Homegrown Public House & Brewery.

Travel tip: Head to Florence in October for their Hallowiener Daschund Races (formerly known as Okto-Fur-Fest).

5. Bandon

Bandon’s leash laws require your four-legged friends to remain leashed, but its sandy beaches, sea stacks, tide pools, and stunning ocean views are well worth a trip. Stop by the pet-friendly Bandon Bait Shop before a day out fishing with Fido, enjoy a game of tug-of-war by the Pacific Ocean, check out the Coquille River Lighthouse, or meet a few new furry friends at Bandon Dog Park. Seven Devils State Park is a favorite spot for scenic hiking trails and provides access to Agate Beach. Nearby Coos Bay offers plenty of dog-friendly dining options too, like 7 Devils Brewing and High Tide Café. Shake things up with a hike along John Dellenback Dunes Trailhead’s sand dunes, where dogs can walk off-leash and play in the sand.

6. Oceanside

The only thing about as famous as Oregon’s unique coastline is its ice cream. Oceanside serves as the beach escape to Tillamook, renowned for its Tillamook Creamery. Take your family (furry friends included) on an Oregon Coast vacation that’s as sweet on the tastebuds as it is on the eyes. Start with a ride along the pet-friendly Oregon Scenic Railroad in nearby Garibaldi to the tranquil and laidback Rockaway Beach (leash required) or explore Oceanside Beach’s tide pools. Once you’ve taken in a day of ocean views and a few games of frisbee on the pet-friendly beaches, grab dinner (or dessert) at Tillamook Creamery, and catch a sunset to remember at Cape Lookout State Park. Be sure to also swing by Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area in Pacific City for a walk along the sand dunes and a chance to see migrating whales.

7. Newport

About 30 minutes from Lincoln City, you’ll find the cute beachside town of Newport. Sandwiched between Yaquina Bay and the Pacific Ocean, Newport is an ideal pet-friendly getaway for those looking for a waterfront adventure in a relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Agate Beach, South Beach State Park, and the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse are excellent spots to play or sit back with your pup while watching the waves come and go. Hike along Yaquina Head Lighthouse for beautiful ocean views and spot a few sea lions along the way. Depoe Bay is a frequent hangout for migrating whales, and Agate Beach has a dog park that’s perfect for running around together. There are plenty of dog-friendly restaurants to choose from in the area, like The Coffee House, Wolf Tree Brewery, and Pacific Kitchen at Nye Beach, so you’ll be set from breakfast to dinner (with a few treats in between).
