Loved the view of the mountains! Cozy, clean house!
Cabin was great! Everything was exactly as pictured. The Perfect weekend get away. Loved the views. It was Easy to find with GPS. Roads getting up to the cabin were pretty steep but AWD isn’t necessary.
Elevated! Quiet, away from Hustle and bustle. Nice private setting.
This is a beautiful home that is very secluded but in a really move neighborhood. It is high on a mountain side and the views are great. The house is very spacious with very amenity. Huge tv and recliners in the living room. Even has a pool table upstairs with an extra full size bath. It also has decks on the front and back of the house. We loved it here.
We enjoyed our stay, it was just the right setting for a couple's weekend. The jetted tub and pool table are a nice touch. We enjoyed the peace and quiet. There is a new home construction starting nearby so that will make for some noise while that is in process, but evenings were very peaceful. It is a winding climb, and I agree that the first time you arrive you might want to make it during the daylight. Our GPS had no problem finding the place. Overall I would recommend this home and would return for another stay if given the opportunity.
This review is about the house itself - I will detail vacasa's review at the bottom of this. Checkin was fine - although I must say the directions to the house could have been better. It was difficult to interpret the written description, but we made it there (google maps isn't as bad as owner describes). The key system was a bit hard to wrangle, but not horrible.
First, the positives! Nice space, pool table nice, bed VERY comfortable, deck and view superb, jacuzzi cub excellent, quiet, remote. One morning we saw bears: a mom and 3 cubs came right through the backyard!
Major complaint #1 - the parking situation. The owner doesn't want you to park in the driveway (the garage isn't available and there isn't enough room to turn around in the driveway, so it's understandable) - but instead provided a pad to park on right off the street. It's at a steep grade, but there isn't much traffic so that's fine. My emergency brake handled it just fine - the main issue was turning around in order to get back down the hill - further up the road is an area to turn around, but doing a U-turn on a grade isn't for the faint of heart - it caused anxiety in me (I don't live in the mountains - if you did maybe you'd be ok with that).
Major complaint #2 - maintenance issue pretty much turned this review sour. Our AC didn't work from minute 1 - since it was set at 80 when we arrived (per checkout procedure), I wasn't surprised the first night when it didn't drop by bedtime. When it wasn't cool by noon the second day, I called. (see vacasa review next) To his credit, the owner really quickly tried to troubleshoot it via online controls. Meanwhile, it got up to 86 in the cabin (same temp outside). Because of issue #1, we were a bit reluctant to leave the cabin, but #2 forced us to seek refuge in our car. The issue was eventually determined to be a septic issue, not a cooling issue at all - but still decidedly ruined this stay for us.
vacasa - this experience taught me just how important it is to go with a rental company with great customer service. My only complaint was being on hold with vacasa for 20 minutes before talking to someone. But once I did, they were trying to resolve the issue immediately. They were compassionate and helpful. They even offered to move us to a nearby empty rental - it was 4th of July - I was impressed they had one! (it was a new property for them) It was a significant upgrade. The house had some major repairs it needed, so I'm sure it helped them not to have anyone there too. I was super impressed with vacasa's customer support through this whole experience.
Bottom line: I will rent from vacasa again but probably not this property. The chances of having a major maintenance issue are slim, but the parking situation will most likely not change, so be forewarned!
Very cozy and nice. Would stay again.
This was a great spot to call home for a week. We enjoyed being in Townsend. The home was perfect for the two of us, after a day of hiking the jetta tub was excellent. Waiting for dinner and playing a couple of games of pool was nice. You are way up in the mountain it is a pretty steep climb up but coming out of gated home to go to the park takes about 5 minutes once you are down and on the main road. There is a grocery store very close and we went out to dinner at the Steak and Trout, very good (make reservations). We also went down the little river tubing. The river rat tubing is right before you go into the park. It was a lot of fun. We had a wonderful vacation and we would stay there again.
Very well maintained cabin! Great view and very peaceful! Vacasa was very helpful as well.
The views must be incredible here, we could imagine the splendor of spring, summer and fall. Sadly, we were there just after spring and could not see much. MAKE SURE YOU BRING AWD cars to the place. The roads are very steep! Bad weather/tires/traction would be very dangerous.
The home is cozy, cutely done, has good, clean utensils (the non-stick pan was badly damaged though), electric stoves and some basic spices to work with.
There is a pool table and some books and playing cards.
The view from the bath is fantastic. Make sure you plan some time for a good soak!
This was my 2nd stay at Wolfe's Den. It's a clean, well-kept place with everything I need to enjoy a few days in Townsend. Vacasa has been great to work with, too.
My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Wolf Den. It was perfect for the two of us. WE grilled at the house and ate out. Townsend is a great place to stay to enjoy hiking, zip line, rafting, fishing, exploring. There are some nice restaurants in the area and a grocery store. You have spectacular views from the house of the Smoky Mountains.....you will need all wheel drive and be comfortable driving switch backs up the mountain, but it is worth it to feel miles above it all. We saw deer and wild turkey around the house, and saw amazing sun rise and sunset views. We would recommend it.
The cabin / house was very nice, clean, and comfortable. We enjoyed the cable TV, WI-FI, and pool table. We went in the winter and the HVAC kept up with a 3 degree night. Also, Townsend is kind of dead in the winter, but we aren't into tourist type things. We loved our mini vacation. Just be prepared for steep roads and steps down from the roadside parking at this cabin.
Private. Secluded. Quiet. Roomy. Comfortable. Great location. Lots of location to sit and hang out - love the swing.
Was very pleased with the cabin. Out of the way but not too far. Had a grey view of the mountains and loved the swing. Will be back.
