Beautiful ocean views with private patio & dog-friendly!
Berni's Castle is a big, beautiful historic landmark on the North Oregon Coast, and this two-bedroom, dog-friendly Oceanside vacation rental is part of the sprawling "castle". This private apartment used to be Berni's workshop. Here, you'll have ocean views from the full kitchen, living room, and out on the balcony for a memorable coast retreat.
You'll also have use of a common deck with a grill. If you're renting all of Berni's Castle or enjoy making a few new friends, the lower deck with grill will be a fun socializing spot.
The living area is full of large, ocean view windows, comfortable furniture, and a TV for evenings spent inside watching cable or a DVD. There's also an iPod dock for music, WiFi, and plenty of board games to spread out on the coffee table, as well as a gas fireplace that provides warmth in ambiance only, as it is not reliably functional.
When it's time for meals, in addition to all of the major appliances, you'll also have panoramic ocean views from the bright and well-stocked kitchen. There are also a lot of bonus gadgets here like a coffee grinder, blender, and a mixer. You may want to whip up a batch of cookies for after dinner, or start the day with fruit smoothies before heading down to the sand.
In the morning, take your coffee out on the balcony to listen to the ocean and watch the waves roll in. If you feel like a fancy coffee drink, make the 5 minute walk to Brewin' in the Wind and bring a latte and pastry back to this Oregon Coast vacation rental.
Both bedrooms have queen size beds, one with a vaulted ceiling and a paddle ceiling fan. This Oceanside vacation rental will sleep four guests quite comfortably, with a maximum of five guests. And if you need to do any laundry while on vacation, there's a private washer and dryer for guest use. And, if you decide to bring your dog pals, there's an additional fee (two dogs maximum, please).
The sleepy beachside town of Oceanside is popular, yet not normally crowded, with a long stretch of sandy beach and gorgeous views of Three Arch Capes National Wildlife refuge just off the shore. Spend sunny afternoons walking in the sand, flying kites, or just hunting for shells. When you work up an appetite, you'll want to stop in at Roseanna's Cafe, a local favorite, for fresh seafood, hearty lunches, or a piece of homemade pie.
If you don't want to stay put, there are plenty of day trips you can plan in the area. Spend some time at Cape Meares National Wildlife Refuge, two and a half miles north in Cape Meares, where you can hike around and take photos of the historic lighthouse. And, just 11 miles east on Highway 101, you can stop by the famous Tillamook Cheese Factory for samples of Oregon-made cheddar and scoops of freshly-made ice cream.
Further north, there's the galleries of Cannon Beach and to the south, bustling Lincoln City with the Chinook Winds Casino, a large outlet mall, and many glass blowing studios. But really, your most favorite activity may be sitting out on the balcony back at your castle getaway, with a glass of wine or watching a winter storm from the warmth of the living room.
However you spend your time at this Northern Oregon Coast vacation rental, you'll leave feeling rejuvenated and relaxed, and looking forward to a return visit.
*Cellphone coverage is quite poor in Oceanside - guests may use their phones in Netarts, three miles away*
Kitchen was so well equipped and a delight to work in. Beds were good.
I had a wonderful stay, it was comfortable and quit.
This home was fantastic, so much more than we expected!
It was warm & cozy, with a gas fireplace, comfy couch and views out over the waves. Kitchen was well equipped, with more than we'd expected, they even supplied baking utensils. They supplied binoculars for watching the sea lions and birds on the rocks.
The home was clean and fresh, the furniture and decor was homey and used, so we felt we could relax.
2 bedrooms would be a very comfortable fit for 2 couples or a couple and kids. Even with a small footprint, the property felt larger with the wall of windows and a view you had difficulty dragging yourself away from.
Short walk down to the beach, but the hill is somewhat steep, so not for everyone.
Roseanna's Cafe (walking distance, same as the beach) was fantastic. Amazing pasta dishes, crabcakes and wine.
Little or no cell phone reception (not necessarily a bad thing!) but the Wifi worked great and there was a landline phone.
Would definitely stay in this property again in the future.
Well appointed apartment. Beautiful view. snowstorm hit while we were there but cabin was warm and cozy. Fireplace added to the atmosphere. close to beach for walking. close to Tillamook for brief shopping, rooms were clean and well maintained.
We loved the beautiful ocean view. The beach was about a ten minute walk down the hill. The unit was pleasant. The only negatives were ants in the kitchen and a gas artificial log living room stove that cut off a few minutes after being turned on. We would have enjoyed being able to use the stove.
We would have happily inspected the stove for this guest had we been made aware of the need. A tech is scheduled to repair it, and we have eliminated the ants. Thank you!
Loved the view and and comfortable accommodations.
The view is spectacular, the decor and furnishings wonderful and the kitchen is amazingly well equipped.
Beautiful view! One of the best!
Berni's Ocean View Castle, specifically The Potter's Wheel was the perfect spot for our vacation. We were visiting from out of state and wanted to spend a few days on the coast. The views from the property were stellar. You could leave the windows open and hear the waves all night long. No traffic. No loud neighbors. It was terrific and a perfect escape. Highly recommend!
I loved Bernie’s Castle. I have stayed at many different places in Oceanside and this is by far my favorite. I will be back!
Comfortable beds and furnishings, well-stocked kitchen. Great view from the balcony, 5 min walk downhill to the beach. Would stay here again!
Basic rental, sufficient for two couples. Surfaces very clean on checking. Floors need a deep clean though. We kept the ants at bay by wiping counters with vinegar and keeping food in the refrigerator.
I cannot even put into words how wonderful Berni’s was. Oceanside was a perfectly peaceful coastal location for us. We enjoyed long walks on the beach (w/ lattes from Three Arch Inn) and through the forest, beach combing, and cooking seafood/relaxing/sipping cocktails/dancing around the living room/reading/even doing laundry to THAT VIEW. Beds are comfortable, kitchen is very well stocked (even with basic spices), and the shower was nice with ample space for your toiletries in the bathroom. No cell service but not an issue with there being WiFi. There is a little ant problem, which we addressed by keeping the kitchen clean and the chairs on the deck need to be replaced, but we found these issues minimal compared to the positives. Planning to return someday!
The view here is everything and it's a well stocked and charming apartment. Private deck overlooking the beach and view of 3 arch rocks and Maxwell mountain. Would definitely come back again.
The View was amazing even if the weather wasn't. Had all the Comforts of home and then some. If you get a chance you must stay here. Very peaceful and relaxing.
The apartment was very comfortable, the view was great. We enjoyed our stay.
Bernie’s Castle is a great option in Oceanside. We have stayed in all 3 units @ one point or another & all are nice. All well furnished with the best views in town.
Place was cute, clean and comfortable with a great view. Doesn't get any better than that!! Can't wait to go back.
This house was the perfect landing spot for a weary soul! Ocean views, ocean SOUNDS, and a cheerful space made this place a wonderful vacation spot!!
The views from the property were spectacular! I was a bit disappointed in the quality of the furnishings but overall it was a nice place. Clean and well laid out. There were ants in the kitchen and no soap in the bathrooms. Would be nice to have had some foil or plastic wrap in the kitchen. Internet was pretty non-existent and no cell service at the house.
We are sorry about the few ants that appeared in the kitchen area. We have since sprayed and laid traps, and so far the issue seems resolved. The owners are thinking about replacing the furniture in the future. The home is advertised as having no cell coverage and had we known about the internet issues, we would have fixed it immediately. The internet is normally very reliable. Thanks!
We enjoyed our stay here. The house was warm and cozy. It had all the amenities we needed. We loved waking up each morning to see the three arches rocks, what a treat.
We went for a two day company retreat to plan for 2018 and it was the perfect location. The setting and view were very relaxing and we were able to get a ton done without feeling overwhelmed.
We enjoyed our stay again, highlighted by a stunning display of the milky way on one of our nights.
The views are amazing and just walking distance from the beach. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the waves crash on the rocks, relaxing, watching movies, walking the beach and hitting local restaurants during our stay. There were so many nice touches, like movies On Demand, Wi-Fi, plenty of soft towels, spices, the BBQ (which worked GREAT!), comfy beds, and more.
We stayed 3 nights and it was so refreshing that it felt like a week. We highly recommend this place!
The view from this unit is great.
We came to Oceanside because we wanted more of a sleepy, coastal town experience. We booked the Potter's Wheel because of the magnificent views of the ocean, and the quaint, cozy cottage photos online. It did not disappoint and was exactly what we were expecting (except the views of the ocean are even better!) Everything was clean and well maintained upon our arrival. The kitchen is well appointed and this worked out well because we ate in the entire time we were there. We wanted a very relaxing few days, not having to venture out a lot if we didn't want. Walks on the beach, a quick stop at a local fish market in Tillamook and an hour or so up to Cape Meares Lighthouse made for a most relaxing and enjoyable stay. The weather was lovely the entire time, so sitting out on the deck enjoying wine in the evenings or coffee in the morning was absolutely the best part of this experience. The beds were comfortable and shower pressure was good as well (can be a problem sometimes, but not here).
Highly recommend this lovely ocean view cottage.
This is a well placed unit with a spectacular view. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. The unit was spotless. They could use some screens on the windows and there is a plumbing problem which creates a loud tapping noise in one of the bedrooms that I would make sure is fixed before renting this unit.
We appreciate this feedback. We will be placing screens on the windows in the near future and will also investigate the plumbing.
Charming little town! Three blocks from the ocean and still a spectacular view of the water. Great beach. And a heckuva hike back home! The kitchen is well stocked with quality cooking gear. It was fun to make fabulous meals while enjoying the sound of the surf.
We've been going to Oceanside for a long time and we love it. This unit (Potters Wheel) is nice, with great views. A few things to note because it's not clear in the description. This unit shares a wall. The people next door were quiet which was nice. And, this unit is upstairs, there is a unit below. Nobody was below during our stay-- so no noise. The kitchen was well outfitted. Everything else was as advertised and nice.
Great views. Unit was clean. Fully stocked for cooking. Mattress in one of the bedrooms was terrible. Soft, old and would sink when u sat down.? Also....only one wash cloth in the bathroom and three bath towels. Should be four as four were to stay there. We were grateful that the other couple could not make it.
Great location with wonderful views! Perfect for a couple or small family.
Love staying at this place. Looking forward to going back next year
This was our first time in Oceanside and being this far north along the Oregon coast. The weather was a bit cooler than we expected; highs for us in August were low 60's. The fog came and went throughout the day and the view was lovely. Bernie's cottage has wifi but it is important to note that none of us had cell phone service in Oceanside. This may be one of the reasons the town is not overly crowded which was nice. The house was clean and stocked with all the basics. We had a very relaxing stay and would visit again!
We really had a great time and like this spot a lot! We would definitely come again and stay here.
We loved our stay. House was well maintained and appliances were all functional. Kitchen and every appliance cleaning supplies were were well stocked. Just a couple of mins walk down to the beach. A small parade in the morning and fireworks on 4th of July were icing on the cake!! Will definitely visit again 😊
Arrived with reservation for Unit 3 of a 3-unit Bernie's Castle. Found the stairs for Unit 3 very problematic for two of us (in mid-late 70's) and our 2 little dogs. Vacasa staff and owners kind to let us switch to Unit 2. Wow, what a view!! Modern furnishings and updated everything. Kitchen very nice and well supplied (although we didn't cook except to use microwave for popcorn/hot chocolate). Good shower, attractive furnishings. Note that owners do not want dogs on furniture. (Wish I'd known that before renting unit.) Otherwise fine for dogs who don't need yard but just walks. Quiet location high on hill so makes view even better. Everything lovely.
We spent a week here in April and couldn't be happier. Oceanside is quiet but perfect for relaxing, beach walking, and hiking. The view from Berni's is maybe even better than in the pictures. Although the weather was off and on for us, we got out to walk every day and loved watching the ocean from this comfy spot. The master bed was also comfy, which is not always true in rentals. Highly recommended. We hope to come back.
Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Potters House. Gorgeous views and it was very classy and updated in terms of decor, tile, flooring, light fixtures, windows, window blinds, great roomy bathroom, and plenty of towels. Kitchen very well stocked. Master bedroom bed was soft but very comfy. King size would have been better just because we are used to that.
I first stayed at Bernie's Castle 47 years ago and it was one of our favorite spots on the coast back then. Berni was still alive and living there at the time. I moved to Washington and it was with great delight I discovered Berni's Castle was still in business and very happy to discover the remodel was so well done with excellent craftsmanship and quality furnishings and finish. The bathroom is clean and nice and everything works very well. We were tickled to find Berni's wonderful hand made tiles in the Potter's Wheel. A very nice touch. The kitchen is well stocked and lacking nothing. The water is good. The heating system is excellent. The windows open and close easily and are good quality. The blinds work well and look nice. This is a classy place to stay and even in stormy weather, which was the case our last two visits, the view out of the windows is so stupendous we were quite happy to stay in and take our walks on the beach when the rain moderated. Bernie's Castle is our favorite place to stay on the coast. I am 70 years old now and we plan to go back there again and again as long as we are able.
Best sunset I've ever seen.
I went for a solo Retreat during the winter time. Iceland to Portland the day they had 10 inches of snow so it was a little scary to getting through Tillamook pass. However I plan on taking my parents next fall before it gets cold because I can only imagine the drive to be beautiful. The parking was a little tight when other guests showed up for the weekend. Bernie's Castle was a welcomed place for me to watch incredible sunsets and lose myself watching the tide roll in and out. I will make this an annual trek.
We stayed in Bernie's Castle #2. The view was better than what you see in the photos. It was simply beautiful.
Location is great. View is outstanding
Great view and clean, comfy apartment!
Stunning view, well stocked. Great condo!!!
We definitely enjoyed the property. The view and the space were 5 star. The location is not as close to beach but the view made up for that. What we would have liked to know is that there are no grocery stores in town and no shops, very minimal restaurant choices...we didn't come prepared for this. We made the trip to Tillamook for groceries. We had never been to this part of the coast so we experienced something new but would probably not return... not as much variety of things to do close by.
Bernie's Castle is a great place for people looking to get away from the big city. It had enough room for 4 people and was pet-friendly with a great kitchen for cooking. There are places to see and eat within driving distance but the beach was great for sun and walking.
We very much enjoyed this property and would return. Especially loved that we were able to bring our 10 yr old Lab!
Just a few blocks up the hill from the beach and main thoroughfare, Bernie's Castle is not far from Oceanside's tiny but vibrant downtown. Meals were excellent at each of the local restaurants. Town residents are friendly and courteous. A great little town to visit if you like to hike and explore.
This property was beautiful. A kitchen, washer & dryer, and minute drive to the beach only added to the surreal view. Great sunsets and cool breeze. The prefect getaway!
Excellent place, made for a great vacation
The search for a near perfect pacific coast experience was rewarded by this quaint dwelling nestled on a hill above the pacific coast. The view was simply breathtaking and the beach and rocks were wonderful to explore especially at low tide. We found secret caves exposed at low tides and a tunnel from one cove beach to another that allowed travel even at higher tide levels. The road dead ends at the Mears lighthouse park so through traffic is limited which is perfect when compared to other locations such as Cannon beach. Loved this location and look forward to returning for a full week someday.
Oceanside is so incredibly beautiful and you can really appreciate it from this cottage. The view was breathtaking and the cottage is just perfect. It was just the right size for 3 to 4 people. The furnishings were very nice, the layout very pleasing, the beds comfortable, and the whole experience memorable.
We had really nice weather for our stay, yeah. Ocean city is a small quaint town on beach. The beach it's self was beautiful, and the view from the apartment was spectacular. The apartment it's self was very clean with all the ammitities, quite comfortable for up to 4 people. Tillamook is just 9 miles away very convenient with plenty of other beaches and sites to see just mimutes away. We would most definitely stay here again.
Tide Pools, long beach walks, great restaurant, with opportunities to go clamming and hike the scenic bluffs right around the corner. I'd say its the ultimate Oregon Coast getaway!
As most people the view was amazing. The kitchen was fully stocked as was the bathroom. We would definitely go there again.
Views in the photos are 100% accurate and it is so gorgeous seeing the ocean and the Three Arch Rocks that can be seen through all the windows that take up the entire Western side of this unit. Everything really is provided here with a very well equipped kitchen with pots, pans, spatulas, foil, seasonings, blender, coffee grinder and maker, filters, all linens, silverware and plates/bowls/cups/glasses. Come with groceries and you're all set!
Be forewarned as of February 2016 to check the road conditions to Oceanside, as there is still a road closure for part of the Cape Meares Loop as well as rough road conditions on the open portion where it is a guided one-way road each side leaded by a pilot truck taking turns for each side of traffic. Unknown when all of these road conditions will be resolved.
Weather required us to stay put and enjoy the beautiful view from anywhere, while fixing meals, reading or playing games. VERY RELAXING!!
I've been coming to Oceanside for years, but this was the first time I stayed at this particular property. After spending 3 nights there, I'm sure we'll be back.
My partner and I arrived just in time to catch a brilliant sunset from the balcony. The views here are stunning. We immediately raised the blinds on all the west-facing windows and left them up our entire stay.
I was pleased to see the gas stove was functional (previous reviews hinted that it wasn't). Sure, it doesn't put out much heat, but it does create a nice ambiance on a chilly evening.
The entire property was neat and tidy. The exceptionally well-equipped kitchen was a bonus. You'd be hard-pressed to find anything missing. (If you've stayed in many other rental properties, you learn not to take a nice kitchen for granted.)
Furnishings throughout the house are perfectly acceptable. Some people have complained about the size of the sofa, but I think this has more to say about the reviewer than the actual sofa.
Same goes for the parking situation. A few previous reviews complained about parking. Sure, if you're driving a full-sized double cab pick-up, front parking may get a little tight for you (and your neighbors), but there is plenty of space for a normal sized car. Don't let those reviews scare you. And besides, there's a larger parking area behind the house. It's not an issue.
We were the only guests during our entire trip, so I can't attest to how quiet the walls and floors are, but the sound of the ocean below should block out much of the noise.
I tend to come to Oceanside more than other parts of the coast because it's a little off the tourist track. The little village is quaint and quiet. If you're looking for more entertainment options, I suppose you could drive into Tillamook, but why bother? Pack a good book and enjoy the views.
As mentioned by others, not a drop of cell service (AT&T in my case), but the internet service was dependable and reasonably quick. If you depend on LTE service, maybe stick to the larger cities (or just use the wifi). Again, this is not an issue and hardly unique to this particular property.
Overall, I highly recommend the property. I'm sure we'll be back!
The Potter's Wheel was squeaky clean, well-outfitted with everything you would need. Quality everything from pans to linens, felt so comfortable we didn't want to leave. The view is one of the best I have seen on the Oregon Coast. Honestly, I feel like I shouldn't give it an honest review because we want to come back and it might be all booked up!
Loved our stay here!! The view was amazing and we were able to watch the whales outside on the patio! We will definitely be back!
The view from this unit is just breath taking.... We were there a stormy weekend and enjoyed every moment...
I've been coming to Oceanside for thirty years and just love the town. I have always rented another unit just below this one. We decided to try something different, and we are very glad that we did. This is a very comfortable unit with an unbelievable view. I also appreciate how the different units are separated so you really don't hear noise from the other residents. My dogs loved it too. We will most definitely be returning.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Ocean Side. The weather was perfect, our cottage was clean, comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. We appreciated the washer and dryer as we didn't have to pack so much. A great spot on the Oregon coast!
You will enjoy this little two-bedroom beach house on the best beach in Oregon. They need to make some changes in housekeeping and repair but with these, you will love it here!
We had a wonderful stay and plan to return.
The beach at Oceanside is one of the best on the coast. Grab a cup of coffee at Brewin in the Wind and enjoy a long walk on this beautiful coast. We also enjoyed the short trips up to Cape Mears and Cape Lookout State Park (both less than ten minutes away). The view from the property cannot be beat! We often got dinner to go and ate at home because we had the best view in town.
The kitchen and bathroom were ok, but certainly dated. The handle on the shower and the knobs on the washing machine and dryer easily fell off when used. The beds were comfortable and sheets were clean, but the comforters and pillow shams looked dingy. We felt the property would benefit from a good deep clean. There was a lot of dust, hair, etc. on the top of cabinets, behind furniture, etc.
Thank you for your review and your suggestions. The Property Manager will take them under consideration as he looks for improvements for the home. We are thrilled to see that you enjoyed the great view so much! Thank you for choosing Vacasa!
We were very happy with our stay. Small but had everything we needed. The parking was limited. We have a full size truck and had to take 2 spots. Luck for us no one was staying next to us. We will be back!
Fantastic views in a well-equipped rental unit. An otherwise perfect kitchen might benefit from a more simple coffee maker and teapot. From the balcony we saw whales spouting.
Thank you for your 5 star review! This is a wonderful property with an amazing view from up on the hill while still being close enough to some of the more popular attractions in the area like Cape Meares and of course, The Tillamook Cheese Factory! It gives us great pleasure to know that you had everything you needed for your stay and hope that we will have you as a guest again soon!
This is a perfect place for a getaway. It was clean, comfortable and the location is perfect and made for a nice walk back and forth to the beach.
We always stay on the Oregon coast at least twice a year. We have stayed at several different rentals from Seaside down to Lincoln City.
Our stay was at the end of January, we love the stormy weather at the beach but were surprised by the amazing weather near 70°! (the weather is usually around 40-50°) The views were stunning, and even though we did have neighbors, we didn't hear them once.
I loved that even though the bedrooms are on the back of the house, you can still hear the crashing waves at night.
The house seems to be well insulated, we turned the heat on in the bedrooms, and i actually had to get up in the middle of the night to turn it off, the heaters stayed off for our entire stay. The stairs to the beach were fine-the railing on the last part of the stairs is a bit rickety, so don't depend on it to balance yourself until it is more secure.
There is no cell service with AT&T or T-Mobile at the house, but you are there to enjoy 'beach time'-doing things at a slower pace. We didn't even turn on the TV until the last night of our stay-the 3rd night.
Some friends of ours haven't seen much of the Oregon coast, so we invited them to stay a few nights. The house is perfect for 4 adults, the couch is plenty roomy, and the adjustable coffee table was great! We know a few other couples, so we will be looking into renting the entire house.
I loved the little fish tiles in the bathroom that the original owner Berni painted, it was a great reminder of how the house got it's start.
I would stay here again and again...and again.
Thank you for taking the time to post a review after your stay last week. We hope that you had a wonderful trip to Oceanside and are pleased that you enjoyed your time spent at this vacation home. It definitely has some amazing views and comforting touches. We are glad that you felt it was perfect for your group. What a pleasant surprise that the weather was so great as well! We appreciate your thoughtful comments and fantastic 5 star rating. Looking forward to hearing from you when you begin planning your next trip to this beautiful house.
We had such a relaxing weekend staying here with our friends! We enjoyed adventuring along the beach, which is about a 5-10 minute walk from the house and the view is outstanding! It was comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked as we cooked breakfast and dinner each day! I highly recommend this rental!
Right from the start, our lovely Vacasa reservation person was amazingly upbeat, competent and efficient! When we walked in we just stood with mouths open, as what we saw beautiful and perfect. Comfy, but updated throughout, it had everything to create the perfect getaway. We sighed a little when other folks checked in, but never heard a peep, still felt like we had our own palace. The price was great and hope to bring other family next tim ed as well!!
When we first pulled up to the rental, we thought someone else was in there because we saw light shining through the back window. However, it was from the sun shining through the windows! What a beautiful sight to see!
We loved the property, view, and Oceanside--so much that we are now plotting our move.
This was our first experience renting a house and everything was great! Vacasa staff promptly returned my inquiry and was always there when we had a question. We stayed in #2 with our teenage boys and had the best ocean view I didn't want to leave! Will be back next year! Thanks
It's great to hear that your first vacation rental was a success! This unit is super comfortable and the ocean view is amazing! Thanks for staying.
