Dog-friendly on five acres w/ hot tub, wraparound deck, firepit, hike/ski nearby

Find a beautiful, spacious family home at this four-bedroom Rhododendron escape, a secluded, dog-friendly getaway with a private hot tub and firepit, an expansive wrap-around deck, and an ideal location for hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing on the slopes of Mt. Hood.

This tranquil, two-level home sits on five private acres in Mt. Hood National Forest, within earshot of the rushing Sandy River 300 feet to the south. Go snowshoeing and cross-country skiing right from your yard, find nearby access to the spectacular trails to Ramona Falls and Horseshoe Ridge, and pass the winter months on the slopes of Mt. Hood Skibowl (15 miles east), Timberline Lodge and Ski Area (21 miles east), and Mt. Hood Meadows (26 miles east).

Follow the third-of-a-mile driveway (which requires a high-clearance 4WD vehicle in the winter) to find your own private base camp, where you can curl up with a board game or a good book after a day in the great outdoors. Kick back on the leather sofa with the DISH cable remote, warm up with the gas fireplace, and use the free WiFi to monitor the ski conditions on Mt. Hood.

Begin each morning with freshly ground coffee from Mt. Hood Roasters in Rhododendron, flip pancakes in the full kitchen (with a dishwasher), and gather around the immense dining room table to make plans for the day. Spend summer afternoons walking your dog on Lolo Pass Road, soaking in the sunshine and views of Mount Hood on the wrap-around deck, and preparing the gas grill for a family barbecue. Roast marshmallows for dessert around the outdoor firepit, and end the evening with some unforgettable stargazing in the private hot tub (with an umbrella for use in every season).

Make your next family reunion or group getaway a memorable one - begin a new family tradition at this wonderful Rhododendron home! A damage waiver, covering up to $2,000 of accidental damage to the property or its contents, is included in the cost of your reservation.

We had a great time. It's very secluded. The hot tub was a nice. We were in a fire ban but the firepit would have been great too.

Wonderful cabin with beautiful views of the woods.
As you enter the cabin you see a clean, organized and well stocked place to stay.
It was a comfortable stay this weekend. We all felt that it was a cozy place. With everything necessary to enjoy and relax. The inside had everything in the kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms that made for a nice stay. We very much enjoyed the hot tub, the lounge chairs on the porch, the benches by the fire pit and the grill. There are many windows to see the woods and the snow filled mountain top, enjoying a hot cup of coffee.
We definitely recommend this place as a getaway for friends and family.

We instantly felt relaxed in Lolo Base Camp's quiet surroundings. Beautiful view of Mt.Hood and the river is a short walk away. We took a walk or bike ride every day, and visited Bald Mountain and Timberline Lodge. The hot tub was perfect and there was plenty of room for all our food. If you are looking for an outdoorsy family vacation not too far from Portland and away from crowds, this is the place to stay!

Wonderful remote location. Setting more beautiful than pictures capture. Well stocked kitchen. Comfortable beds! Great hikes nearby. Perfect family getaway.

Like many people on Vacasa, I was searching for a home where I could bring my family out of the city and into nature, to make new lasting memories. Lolo Pass Basecamp delivered on all fronts. A beautiful, spacious, pristine house. Fun, special amenities like a big firepit and hot tub. And an absolutely beautiful, huge, park-like property set next to the Sandy river and a well used (but still quiet) public trail. My kids (7 and 9 y.o.) loved running around the property, exploring, checking out the plants, climbing on rocks, playing make believe with wooden swords, etc. We took several walks on the trail in the back, went to the river a couple of times, and even made an excursion into Mt Hood National Forest to hike on Bald Mountain. Although there were only three of us, the spacious and well-designed house could comfortably fit at least 6-8 people. Would definitely recommend for anytime of the year, without hesitation. Five stars and one of the best vacation properties in Oregon.

Good secluded spot for family time, walking, hot tub and nightly fire pit!!! Not to mention beautiful river to explore
Had tons of fun!

We loved this place! It was just what we were looking for. There was so much to explore out of the backdoor & it was conveniently located for easy access to 26. Nothing was lacking within the home either, plenty of supplies, no complaints. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!

We stayed there for a weekend. Amazing kitchen, very private and gorgeous views and big windows to enjoy the views. Hot tub was nice a few of the jets didn’t work though. Very well equipped only one thing that was weird was that there was no trash can in the bathroom
Upstairs. A small thing but necessary. Overall an amazing home. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate the holidays early as a family. The house was extremely comfortable and welcoming. We spent hours in the kitchen cooking and loving the views of Mt. Hood. Absolutely would stay again!

Super private, clean and chill home. Loved staying!
Arthur K. Nov 2019
Well maintained, comfortable, great location. Very good access to hiking, and a nice, private space. Only downside is that the oven in the kitchen is very small. This wont matter for most people, but I happened to have planned a large meal that required a lot of oven space, which was tricky. The rest of the kitchen is fantastic. Loved the hot tub and wrap around porch. Beautiful views of the mountain from many places in the house and property.

The property is beautiful, the house is clean and comfortable, great open kitchen, and proximity to trails cannot be beat. I can’t wait to go back!

This is the second year we've rented this house. The kitchen/dining table is perfect for playing sprawling tabletop board games and the big windows looking at Mt.Hood are awesome. I'm sure we'll be back!
Shawn L. Mar 2019
Great country house at the base of the mountain. Perfectly located hot tub and the view of the sunset on mt hood is amazing. Would stay there again!

This house is great for hosting multiple families. We LOVED the huge table and spacious kitchen. The views from all the windows were beautiful and it was the perfect place for lounging, exploring outdoors, and adventuring up to the mountain. There is a slight sulfur smell to the water, so be aware, but other than that it was a gem.
Manager response:
HI Sally, WOW!!! We appreciate your gracious comments about the home and how much enjoyment you got from its location and wonderful amenities. You’ll be excited to know that the owner replaced the water system so no more sulfur odor and taste. Please come back so you can take advantage of this great enhancement to the property. Thank you.
Wesley M. Nov 2018
You get a great sunrise view of mt hood's peak every morning.
Laura L. Nov 2018
Loved the views from every window! The home was so cozy, yet big enough for our big family.
Nate S. Nov 2018
The basecamp was better in person than it looked in photos and was perfect for our group of friends. The kitchen is gigantic, a great place to cook and hang out. The living room is nice a cozy, and the wraparound deck and hot tub were the icing on the cake.

My only complaint is that the first floor shower only put out scalding hot water, so we had to share the upstairs shower instead. Other than that small hiccup, this place was top notch!

This property is amazing!!! The view of mt. hood and the seclusion are awesome..
Mary L. Aug 2018
The spacious kitchen and dining area and the lovely scenery.
April R. Mar 2018
Lovely large kitchen, private outdoor area, good sleeping set up and a ton of parking. Note this area has high sulfur content and the water smells pretty strong if you aren’t use to that. Bring water jugs. Plenty warm, good light, good hot tub. The cable (satellite) was not working during our stay. Oh also there isn’t a radio or speaker system - nothing to play music on so bring that too.
Manager response:
Hi April, we’re so glad that you enjoyed the kitchen and outdoor areas. The water system has been replaced so no more smell and sulfur taste. Thank you.
Karen R. Mar 2018
Our family had a great weekend together and enjoyed the house and location.
Elizabeth S. Feb 2018
We stayed at this property for three days and two nights, and wish we could have stayed all week! The house was VERY clean, the property was beautiful, and aside from the hot-tub, the kitchen was probably our favorite part of the house. It was fully stocked with everything you'd need to do kitchen prep to feed an army. The king-sized bed in the master bedroom was a plus, too.

This property was located close to Mt. Hood ski areas, making winter activities easily accessible. It is also located right on the edge of the National Forest, with great hikes right out the door. The Mighty Sandy River is a part of the property, and it is a lovely area to stroll around in and look at the flora and fauna. The interior of Lolo Pass was even nicer than it looked in the pictures. The kitchen is spacious and well stocked, and the dining room kitchen table is majestic. It seats 10 people comfortably, and the the whole area is full of lots of natural light from the immense windows. The decor of the home is classy and artistic: we loved the clock and owl theme, as well as some of the original artwork on the walls. We were able to check in early, complimentary of the housekeeping team. That allowed us to ski an extra day in the fresh powder!

We loved this house so much, mostly because of the location. The river is a short, beautiful walk away. The hot tub set up is prime. House is cozy and beds are comfortable. Would definitely stay again.
Jesse V. Jan 2018
Wonderful cabin getaway on a gorgeous property in Mt. Hood National Forest. Nearby the house is a hiking trail that runs through the property and follows a picturesque mountain stream. Not to mention a view of Mount Hood! Truly breathtaking.

Inside the house was well furnished, the kitchen was stocked with pots and pans, and the beds were very comfortable for our whole group. This is one of the better rentals I've stayed in and I would highly recommend it / stay again.
Rebekah L. Dec 2017
The house was large, and could have fit many more people than the property limit so that was frustrating. It is acceptably updated with the exception of the oven, which made holiday cooking a bit of an adventure. The place is easy to access and is very private. The hot tub was great and there was plenty of room for our gathering.
Michael S. Dec 2017
Great location for a short drive to the lifts. The house is at a dead end and there are no neighbors or road noise. It is very quiet and private.
