Nestled deep among the soaring pines and cedar trees overlooking Strawberry Creek, this grand two-story lodge is the perfect Idyllwild getaway. Lovingly maintained by its owners for 75 years, this rustic 2,500 sq. ft. home features a beautiful all-wood interior and is complemented by a host of mounted deer, moose, elk, and bears. It is an idyllic retreat where one can rejuvenate while surrounded by beauty and solitude.
This home lies on a spacious, wooded property bordered by Strawberry Creek, about one mile from downtown Idyllwild. If you enjoy hiking, check out the Ernie Maxwell Trail near Humber Park, or take a short hike along the creek into town. There, you'll discover unique shopping, art galleries, an ice cream shop, a candy shop, restaurants and bistros, an historic movie theater, Idyllwild's first brewery, and wine tasting at Middle Ridge Winery. Also be sure to drop by the Town Crier to learn about the town's many festivals - an important part of Idyllwild's cultural experience!
Please note that the driveway is somewhat long and steep. We ask that you take extra care when the weather is wet or icy, and we recommend parking at the top of the driveway and walking down when snow is on the ground.
Dating back to the 1930s, this gorgeous home features Early California and Pine Craft furniture in every room, accented by beautiful Native American rugs and basketry. The spacious living room has a vaulted ceiling, wagon wheel chandelier, and original river rock fireplace, along with plenty of seating for family and friends to spread out and play games, read, watch TV, or surf the web with the free WiFi.
Original 1950s black- and red-checkered floors give a retro feel to the kitchen, which is fully equipped with an updated microwave, coffee pot, gas stove/oven, and refrigerator. As an added bonus, you'll also find a walk-in pantry with cooking utensils and dishware to accommodate meal preparation of any size.
Enjoy your meal at the charming breakfast nook or in the large dining room, which features ample seating around a pine craft table. During the warmer months, picnic out on the deck, take a nap under the pines on one of the two large porches, or enjoy a friendly game of horseshoes outside in the yard. Be sure to keep an eye out for a grey squirrel or two looking for peanuts!
The house is well shaded by trees, so in the summer months temperatures inside and outside stay comfortable. (Several tower floor fans are provided if needed.) For the chilly winter months, there is a wood-burning fireplace and a central gas furnace that efficiently heats the house. There are also several individual floor heaters that can be placed in any room for added warmth.
