Charming dog-friendly cottage with back deck and fenced yard - beach access

Visit the Oregon Coast in style with a stay in this classic Gearhart vacation rental with easy beach access! Also boasting a back deck in the fenced yard, WiFi/DVD/cable, and a sauna in the master suite, this Gearhart getaway is sure to please your whole group.

The home is in a fantastic location! At the end of 7th Street you'll find the beach, boardwalk, and rolling sand dunes! You're within walking distance to Gearhart Golf Links, and just a few miles from even more attractions in neighboring Seaside!

Classic beach style is evident throughout this home with colorful throw rugs and a comfortable aesthetic. After a day of golfing or beachcombing, come back and relax in the living room in front of the river rock wood-burning fireplace. There's a flatscreen cable TV with a DVD/VCR player, as well as a stereo and WiFi. Or, you may prefer to curl up in front of the fire with a family board game or good book from the library.

The full kitchen is light and bright with all the major appliances you'd expect, as well as a coffee grinder, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and blender. Off the kitchen is the laundry room which includes a shower and set-tub, in addition to the washer and dryer. A garden hose for rinsing off sandy feet is located just outside the kitchen door.

The dining table extends to accommodate up to eight guests for fun vacation meals. This formal dining room is just on the other side of the kitchen, with a hidden closet containing a collection of board games perfect for a post-dinner family activity.

The lower main level also has a full bathroom with a claw-foot tub, and two bedrooms. One room has a queen-size bed and its own private half bath, while the other has two twin beds. Both rooms are wonderfully decorated with colorful bedding, bedside tables, reading lights, and more of that classic beadboard paneling.

Head upstairs for the remaining two bedrooms, including a spacious master suite with a queen-size bed, a small sitting area, and a full bathroom with a shower and a sauna. The upstairs twin room has a window seat where you can read by sunlight. This house sleeps up to eight guests very comfortably.

Outside, there's a great deck for cocktails, quiet reading, or socializing as a group. You'll have a gas grill for casual dining, and can relax on the deck while watching the kids and dog* play in the fenced yard. Or you can spend the afternoon exploring Gearhart's quiet residential streets and strolling the uncrowded beach. Your stand-up paddleboards and kayaks will stay secure in the garage before your head to the beach!

The path to the sand begins very near the house at the end of 7th Street. This prime location is just blocks from the Gearhart Golf Links - the oldest golf course in Oregon - so be sure to bring your clubs if you're a fan of golf. Other walkable attractions include a McMenamins pub, the well-loved Pacific Way Cafe and Bakery, a neighborhood grocery store, and a few other businesses.

This sleepy coastal town offers peace and quiet and a long, sandy stretch of beach. Spend the afternoon looking for sand dollars washed up on the shore, then return to your charming beach cottage for an evening in front of the fire. A section of Gearhart's beach, accessible from 10th Street, even allows driving on the sand. If you have a hardy vehicle with four-wheel drive, give it a try!

Come explore Gearhart and the nearby towns of Cannon Beach, Seaside, and Astoria when you stay at this lovely, beach-themed Northern Oregon Coast vacation rental. Rain or shine, this wonderful home will be the highlight of your Gearhart beach getaway!

We booked this cottage for our Portland to Coast team of 8. It worked out perfectly for us. It has 2 showers, 2 1/2 bathrooms and beds to sleep 8. They had an abundance of bath towels stocked in each bathroom which was much appreciated. This house is located on a side street with a very short walk to There's a deck in the back along with a very nice barbecue and adequate seating for all of us which was perfect for our celebration dinner after the race. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because the stairs going to the upstairs bedrooms are VERY steep. Just make sure you hold on to the railing.

We loved this house! Everything we needed and so close to the beach. Our family is in love with Gearhart and we will be back in the fall

I loved the bedrooms, the atmosphere, and the closeness to the beach. When we first arrived, though, there were a few issues. First of all the house wasn't ready by the 4 o'clock check -in time. Also we were only given the code for one of the two lock boxes containing the keys. In addition, there should have been instructions to key in the lock code number a second time to close the lock boxes after removing the keys. We were lucky that the person supervising the cleanup/housekeeping crew was there to assist us but it would have been a serious problem if he hadn't been on the premises at the time. Otherwise, the rooms were lovely and comfortable and the kitchen was well supplied.
Manager response:
Thank you for your feedback. The second lockbox is for emergencies and the code is provided by Guest Services. Sorry for the inconvenience. We hope to host you again soon!

Hominess, location, full amenities
Paula N. Jul 2019
The home was comfortable and roomy. The shower in the laundry room is genius-great to come back and just jump in to wash the sand and salt water off. The location could not be better. The beach area was so quiet compared to other areas. We will be back!
Scott G. Jul 2019
Great location, easy access to the beach and downtown.

This is our favorite beach and house on the Oregon coast. We have enjoyed this sweet house since 1994. We changed our travel dates to allow a stay here. So comfortable furnished with Everything for meal prep great fireplace and fenced yard. Very peaceful easy walk to beach Town and mcMinnamins. Can’t wait to return

You'd be surprised at the way this house has maximized its use of space - also, incredibly close to the beach.

I loved the proximity to the beach, the cleanliness of the cottage, the selection of books for adults and the abundance of towels and the unlimited kitchen dishes, cookware, etc.

Good location close to other towns but out of the traffic . Local businesses were great, friendly and convenient . Within walking distance. Easy access to the beach.
Well stocked kitchen, plenty of linens. Home had a beachy decor. Was nice to have a fireplace. Nice deck and grill so we could enjoy the outdoors.

This house is dated, but very cozy, don't need fancy. Kitchen was stocked with more than enough dishes and utensils, makes you feel right at home. perfect location. had a great time, weather was cold but sunny, so we lucked out. hope to be back sometime.
Anne & John F. Dec 2016
We enjoyed our stay very much. It accommodated our family of 5 comfortably while still having private space available, wonderful location that is steps from the beach path. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
Jacob K. Nov 2016
Very relaxed. Lots of room and the house had everything we needed.
Patricia S. Oct 2016
Older cottage on quiet street within short walk of downtown Gearhart and the beach. Very clean and well-equipped kitchen. Beds were very comfortable.
Frederica F. Aug 2016
Four women rented the property for a two day class in Seaside which included dinners and other recreation. Therefor we didn't make use of some of the features of the house such as cooking/barbecuing, lounging on deck, sauna, etc. For our purposes , it was fairly expensive, although we were happy that we each had our own room. I was upstairs, and was sorry that the bathroom there joined the other bedroom, so would have had to go through that bedroom in the middle of the night if needed...(it wasn't as it turned out!) It was an ok house, with a living room that badly needs decorating to look inviting.
Melissa K S. Aug 2016
Quiet neighborhood, comfortable home good variety of beds, after a bit of bed swapping everyone had great night sleep.
Roslyn H. Jul 2016
This little cottage is actually quite large --four lovely bedrooms and lots of seating indoor and out. We loved the sauna! Unexpected bonus and very cozy on a cool gray day. The location is wonderful--just wander down the street and the beach path is there, a lovely walk down to the huge and gorgeous Pacific Ocean. Had a very nice time exploring.

I want to thank the owner for letting us stay in her lovely cottage by the sea. You can tell she spent a lot of time and thought making this home comfy and charming for all her guests. This home was great for large family gatherings. The photos make it seems small but the layout works great for multi-generational gatherings. My family and I fully enjoyed this lovely home and have memories to look back -on for years : ) We will be back!
Katherine M. May 2016
We really enjoyed our stay here. The layout of the house was perfect for our two families (2 bedrooms up and two down). The house has so much charm and is in a great location. It's located on a very quiet street and it is an easy walk to the beach.
AARON A. Apr 2016
Great location nice size we will be back
Kathi F. Mar 2016
We enjoyed a nice, quiet weekend stay at this house. It's an old, charming house within a quick walk to the beach, downtown, and the McMennamins. The garage is well stocked with beach toys, the house is dog friendly, and the kitchen was well stocked. We will likely return.
Jeff W. Mar 2016
We enjoyed out stay at this house and the layout was great for our family of 6.
Robert M. Dec 2015
Great location right next to the path to the beach. Nice fireplace with a generous supply of firewood. Good size living room for family gathering. Comfortable sleeping for 8 and adequate bathrooms for all.
Corey R. Dec 2015
Great location! We celebrated Thanksgiving while enjoying the Oregon coast. If you have a pet, the side entrance was great to make sure your pet is clean before entering the house. We found the house to be clean. Neighbors were friendly and area peaceful. Look forward to coming back in the future.

The Salt Water Cottage in Gearhart is cosy and we will definitely stay there again. We sat by the fireplace and enjoyed fresh berry pies that my sisters made. Paradise ala mode!

My husband and I and our two young children stayed in the Saltwater Cottage for eight days in July. We loved this house and had a wonderful stay. We were planning on bringing our dog but had a change of plans last minute. It would have been perfect with the fenced in yard in the back – instead it was perfect for the kids. If it was for sale, we would probably make an offer!

The home is the third home away from the access path to the beach. We booked this home based on the location and the fact that it was pet friendly. We were super close to the golf course and a good walk from the grocery store and Pacific Way Café. The home is “vintage” and has absolutely everything you would need. It feels as if you are staying in someone’s home – not a rental. That could be good and bad depending on your preferences. We enjoyed that we were able to cook our own meals and do our own laundry. We spent a considerable amount of time on the deck since it is so private. The only thing this house is missing is a Kurig (I’m incapable of making potted coffee).

My little bit of constructive criticism is that the home could have been cleaner. The beds and bathrooms were spotless (which is what matters to me). However, we found receipts and a used pop bottle under the couch from previous renters. Also, the floors were pretty dirty, even for a beach house. Our white socks were filthy after walking around the house. The home is pet friendly – but if there is a professional cleaning crew cleaning the house before each use, there should be (in my opinion) no trace of previous animals. There is an odor -albeit slight - in the home and several obvious stains on the carpet indicative of pet urine. I let very little ruin a vacation so we dealt with it. A good steam clean or carpet replacement would make this home absolutely fabulous.

One of the cleaning ladies dropped by on our first night there because she forgot her speaker…this was a little disturbing and the only negative thing that happened during our stay. We had no way to verify who she was except for the fact that she said she was from Vacasa and knew where the speaker in question was in the home.

All that being said – we would stay in this home again. I would recommend it to friends. The neighbors to the right towards the beach were super nice.
Eugene P. May 2015
This house has history which is the most interesting. Be sure to check out the stories about Aunt Jane and her family - it was great staying in a house where people grew up on the beach.
Carolyn V. Mar 2015
This house made us feel relaxed and at home right away. Everything we needed was right there. Toys for the kids to build sandcastles as well as a kite to fly. Everything we needed was at our fingertips. The stairs are a little steep inside, this house is not for people with knee or back problems. I would recommend adding drapes to the upstairs room facing the street. It's difficult to change and sleep in a room with no privacy. All the other rooms were great! We had a great time and are planning a return trip in the near future!
Manager response:
Thank you for the wonderful review! We are thrilled that you had a nice stay at this comfortable cottage and that it had everything you needed for a successful beach retreat! The local manager has been notified of the suggestion for drapes in the upstairs bedroom and will look into it. Thank you for choosing Vacasa! We hope you'll visit again soon!

Charming place, with a few funky bathroom issues. We went over the Christmas holiday, so not much was open, but the beach was great.
Jody M. Jan 2015
We had a wonderful stay! Loved the house and it's vintage appeal. We even took a group photo in front of the house to commemorate our stay in such a charming home. So relaxing a quaint. We shopped at Pacific Crest Cottage and dinner at Pacific Way Cafe. We walked on the beach and spotted a beautiful herd of Elk! We relaxed and watched movies in the evenings and more than one of us enjoyed a soak in the beautiful antique claw foot tub! All four of us were fully relaxed and nearly ready to return to the real world after 4 days and 3 nights. Our only is we didn't stay longer. Next time we plan to stay for a full week. We will be staying at the Salt Water Cottage again for our girls trips and all of us desire to bring our families individually. Thanks Vacasa for making the rental process so easy and convent.
Manager response:
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. We are so happy to hear that The Saltwater Cottage made a fantastic vacation getaway for you and your girlfriends! We can't wait to see you again!
Garra S. Jan 2015
We really liked the place thanks!!
Sara G. Nov 2014
My book club stayed here for a few nights and loved it - cozy fireplace, lots of sleeping arrangements, and so close to the beach!
Kerry L. Jul 2014
We loved that the cottage is well-kept and has modern conveniences, but that the original vintage charm was not updated. There are beautiful old door knobs and latches, a claw-foot tub, and original woodwork. And it's only 2 houses up from the path to the beach.
