Dog-friendly, oceanfront cottage w/deck, views, and nearby beach access
This oceanfront, pet-friendly South Beach vacation rental is just seven miles south of bustling Newport. With two bedrooms, stunning ocean views right from the living room windows, and a spacious deck, this Sunset Cottage duplex is the perfect location for a family beach trip!
The home offers a great location on a bike path just six miles from central Newport attractions. Located right between Newport and Seal Rock, South Beach offers a peaceful and quieter Oregon Coast experience. There's a fish market, South Beach State Park, and miles of ocean beach to explore, and you're less than half a mile to the Driftwood Beach (north) or Ona Beach (south).
The interior of this duplex is light and bright, with large west-facing windows for lots of lights and gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean. The main living space has a great, open floorplan that includes the living room, full kitchen, and dining area. There's room for the kids and dogs to play and the whole family to spread out! After a day exploring the beach, come back and gather around the TV for some cable or a Blu-ray DVD. There's also WiFi throughout the house so you can share pictures of your trip and make all your friends jealous.
The nicely stocked kitchen has everything you'll need for a big family dinner, breakfast on the go, and movie treats. In addition, there's also a coffee grinder (so be sure to pick up some fresh coffee beans in town), a blender, a slow cooker, and a counter bar for snacks or kitchen helpers to chop vegetables. And when you sit down to your meal at the dining table, you'll have an amazing view of the waves!
Out on the deck, you'll find an outdoor table, chairs, and a gas grill for cookouts overlooking the ocean! Come out here after dinner with a glass of wine, or start your day on the deck with some freshly brewed coffee while you watch the seabirds fly over the waves.
There are two bedrooms - one has a queen bed and the other a double bed. Both have bright floral bedding. Up to four guests can stay comfortably at this charming South Beach vacation cottage. And two dogs are welcome with an additional nightly pet fee. Additional amenities include a washer and a dryer, so you can pack lightly when you stay here!
Although there is no direct beach access right from the yard, you're within a short walk to the flat sandy shores ideal for flying kites, or hunting for shells. On rainy days, you can get in the car and drive north to Newport for gallery browsing and restaurants along the historic bayfront, as well as the popular Oregon Coast Aquarium.
There's also the Nye Beach neighborhood for more attractions, and the Yaquina Head Lighthouse on the north end of Newport. At Seal Rock to the south, you can explore tide pools before driving home to your cozy South Beach getaway for a family meal.
This Oregon Coast vacation rental offers a lot of bang for your buck - ocean views, great amenities, and a convenient location near all of Newport's attractions, but tucked away in the quiet little town of South Beach! A damage waiver, covering up to $2,000 of accidental damage to the property or its contents, is included in the cost of your reservation.

Can’t beat the view
Penny D.Mar 2020
This older but comfortable duplex had a beautiful view and the deck was perfect for sitting and relaxing while watching the ocean.
Patricia L.Mar 2020
This house has an unbeatable view. We took our two dogs here and had a great time. The house could use a little TLC and there were a few odd things (ie; the light switches for each bedroom were in the hallway, 2 electrical outlets in the kitchen didnt work) but it is a cute house and close to Newport.
Thank you for staying with us, Patricia! We are glad you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback. We will work with our team to identify areas for improvement. We look forward to hosting you again!

This was a perfect location for our familymoon, so peaceful. Although I forgot my wedding dress hanging on the back of a bedroom door, everything else was absolutely perfect. Thank you Vacasa. We also enjoy our stays at you locations. Perfect wedding weekend.
Naomi R.Nov 2019
Very clean, well stocked kitchen, and a beautiful home away from home in a picturesque location. I was thrilled with our stay.
Kristi R.Nov 2019
The house was beautiful and welcoming the beach was a short drive to the state beach and the aquarium it was the perfect to celebrate our 36th anniversary
Javier C.Oct 2019
Cute little cottage for a nice get away. The view is spectacular! Well worth every penny.
Barbara L.Sep 2019
I really appreciated the comfortable beds and the well-appointed kitchen. The deck was the perfect place for sitting in the afternoon. I did not enjoy, though, having to walk on the side of Hwy. 101 with my back to traffic to find the path through the bushes that leads to a sand path that leads to a slippery, rocky downhill slope to get to the beach. The house is nice but the difficult walk to get to the beach means I won't be coming back.
Erik S.Sep 2019
Ocean view and the fire pit were highlights. Cozy little spot. Great for lounging about
Betty H.Aug 2019
Loved the view.
John B.Aug 2019
This house is not perfectly polished, but a great place to relax. If you're able to set aside your obsession to detail, and not compare it to your own 'perfect home', you'll do just fine with this cottage on the bluff. If you require easy access to the beach, which we did not, this is not the place for you. It is nicely equipped, and perfectly located. If you main desire is to have a place with a view of the ocean, this is the place for you.
Kari B.Jul 2019
Perfect place to watch all the ocean. We saw whales, sea lions, and lots of birds.
Summer L.Jun 2019
When I first saw the price of the Sunset Cottage, I immediately read all the reviews because something HAD to be wrong for prices that low. The worst review mentioned outdated decor, dirty carpets and holes in the floor. Uh oh. I kept reading reviews because I really wanted to make this trip happen. Then I noticed a comment from the management that said the property had been shut down for repairs. All the comments after they reopened the property were pretty positive so we decided to take a chance.
My husband, daughter and I stayed for 6 days at the Sunset Cottage and absolutely fell in love.
On day one we were greeted by TWO Barn Swallow nests on either side of the house with babies chirping away! (Not too loudly so don’t worry). Over the course of the next couple of days we got to watch the babies as they learned to fly and left the nest.
We saw so many native birds such as Turkey Vultures, Osprey, Bald Eagles, Whimbrels, Crows, Seagulls, Cedar Waxwings, and too many shorebirds to count. We also saw harbor seals and gray whales swim by on four different days.
The location itself couldn’t be more perfect. Yes, it is right on the 101 but when the windows were open, the ocean was much louder than any traffic. It’s a duplex but the only time we heard our neighbors was when we were all outside and occasionally the plumbing. There are only a handful of houses on that stretch of highway which makes it seem like you are very secluded. Much more private than staying at a place in town.
There is no beach access from the property due to the 35 foot drop at the end of the back yard. Some of the neighboring houses have stairs but I can’t imagine it’s exactly cheap to build or upkeep. There is a slightly overgrown path about four houses south that is pretty easy to access though there are loose rocks where the path meets the beach so use caution when descending. You also have to walk on the 101 for a short distance to get to the path so be very aware of your surroundings and don’t go at night. We didn’t know about this path until the night before we went home and a new neighbor told us. Our loss, your gain.
The house itself was very clean and brightly lit. It is a bit warm in the evening as the sun is going down because the big windows face west toward the ocean so that’s to be expected. We opened all the windows to cool it down and kept the blinds closed while we were visiting other beaches and attractions.
We wanted to focus on relaxing by the beach instead of eating at restaurants so we brought enough groceries to last the week. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we could need and there was plenty of space to store the food. There is no dishwasher but they provide ample dish soap, towels and a dish drainer so hand washing is a breeze. The gas grill out back worked great and seemed to have plenty of propane available. There is a fire pit but there were a lot of “no burn” signs in the area so we didn’t attempt to use it.
The furniture in the main living area is clearly newer and the dining table and chairs are very cheap but they served their purpose. Besides, you are staying at the beach. Who cares how fancy the furniture is?
The flooring has clearly been redone since the previous reviewer mentioned dirty carpets and holes in the floor. The floor is a pretty, gray, mock hardwood and very stable. There are dips in the floor but none of the spots felt spongy at all, just uneven. They do ask that you remove your shoes in the tiny entryway before going in so if you have foot issues, be sure to bring some house slippers so you can have some comfort.
Although they did not detract from our stay, these are the few negative things we did find with the house:
BEDS - Very clean but they definitely need to be replaced. My daughter loved hers but she is 10 and was sleeping on a full size bed all by herself. The bed in the master bedroom has a foam topper on it that is way too soft and the whole bed sinks to the middle. It didn’t cause too many sleepless nights but it wasn’t comfortable either. Also, both beds are on wheels which do not seem to lock into place. The bed in the second bedroom kept hitting the plug to the bedside lamp causing it to flicker. A curtain over the closet with the washer and dryer would also be nice.
REFRIGERATOR AND STOVE - They work great. They just need to be leveled. They are very uneven. Things all roll to one side in the fridge and the door flies back into the counter if you don’t catch it. The stove is also on a slant so cooking can be a challenge when the food rolls to one side of the pan.
SLIDING GLASS DOOR - The door needs to be replaced as the framing around the glass is cracked and broken causing the glass to feel a little loose in the frame. The door doesn’t slide open very smoothly but this seems to change based on the temperature so I don’t think there is much to be done about that. Also, there is no screen door. This wouldn’t necessarily be a problem because we didn’t have too many issues with flys or other insects. However, those Barn Swallows I mentioned above? They WILL fly right in if you have the door open too wide.
BACKYARD - Two more deck chairs would be nice as we spent a lot of time sitting out on the grass watching the waves. My daughter was fine sitting on the ground but if you have four adults staying, they’ll all want a place to sit. Maybe a table as well.
The following things are a bit more nit picky and really not a big deal but we wanted to mention them.
TOILET - The toilet works fine however, flushing it can be a bit tricky. Sometimes, we had to hold the handle for a full minute before it would fully flush. Not a big deal, just something you should know before you think the toilet is broken (which is what my husband thought at first).
SHOWER - the faucet for the shower is reversed. The ‘H’ is actually cold, while the ‘C’ is hot.
SECURITY LIGHTS - It would be nice if there was a way to turn off the security lights. They didn’t affect our sleep or anything. We just really wanted to see the stars better and the ability to turn off the lights outside would have been wonderful.
All in all, this was the best vacation we have had in a long, long time and a lot of it was because of the Sunset Cottage. I could write a separate, equally long post about all the things we did on our trip but this is a review of the house, not of the area. We are already planning another visit as soon as we can and we will be renting this house again for sure.
Hi Summer, thank you for staying with us! We appreciate the comprehensive feedback you have taken the time to share. The necessary maintenance items have been scheduled on our maintenance agenda to have addressed. We look forward to hosting you for a truly exemplary stay in the future!
Celia M.May 2019
My husband and I had a great time at the cottage. It might have been rainy but it is the coast and we did get down to the beach several times. While it might not have had everything we had all we needed to do the cooking we did and have no complaints. Celia M.

Was a perfect place to stay for our small family. Beautiful views and a nice stay.

I love the view and comfort.

The view was amazing!!!! but there’s no beach access n 15 minutes to grocery which was ok. the slider door does not open properly none of us could really open it too easy besides that nice
Jasmine C.Mar 2019
Really beautiful and peaceful ! Would definitely try fish and chips in Newport !
Tina Y.Mar 2019
We had the best time. The kitchen isn't that stocked. But we made it work. Great place for a getaway

The view and overall trip was amazing!
Crystal R.Sep 2018
This property has a very displeasing smell inside. Be sure to burn candles and bring air freshener spray.
We have closed this unit until certain repairs are made that will eliminate any unpleasant odors. It will be open for bookings as soon as the work is done. Thank you!
Adrienne H.Sep 2018
Let me start by saying that some of the horrible reviews made us scared to visit. However, upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised. Lets start with the issues: ALL PURELY COSMETIC. the yard isn't neat, there are stains on the carpet - clearly it's been well used by children and possibly pets, furniture is old and outdated, and there are soft spots in the floor - as this house has clearly been on the beach a while. Other than that, I was very happy. The view from the yard was perfect, we spent every morning and night there. The grill comes fully prepared with propane, there are complimentary dish soaps, laundry detergent, and bathroom soaps, beds are comfy. For regular folks with family and a dog, we LOVED this place. If you're boujee, this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a great deal for yourself/kids/pets to stay while vacationing at the beach, you can't beat this for the money.
Jon C.Aug 2018
This home is a accident waiting to happen! From large hole in the dining room which was covered up with an area rug to the slider frame pulling away from the glass to the soft spots in and around the bathroom to the very uncomfortable bed, this place was a joke. When we first walked in, it was extremely hot in there from the sun. Discovered there are no windows facing the ocean that can be opened for air and the only option is the slider, which has no screen door allowing the resident birds to fly in. So, upon opening the slider, we discovered the frame is broken and the pulling away from the glass, so you have to very carefully try to slide the door open using the entire door and not just the handle. There were missing blinds and the carpet, besides the hole, is extremely dirty and spotted. I didn't want to walk around barefoot and so we all wore shoes to walk around inside. The main bedroom has an overly soft mattress with no support. The owner simply placed a mattress topper on it and called it good. So now, it requires your spouse to grab ahold of one side to keep from falling into the middle of the bed while you get in on the other side. Sort of felt like the old waterbeds before they came out with waveless mattresses. There was a broken patio chair on the deck, two patio chairs in the lawn and no outside patio table (I was told the wind blew it down the cliff and was never replaced). The bathroom was ok, but definite floor damage with soft spots in and around the bathroom door. The only newer furniture was a cheap dining room table and chairs and a cheap entertainment console. Everything else was very old, perhaps yard sale or second hand store bought that had a musty smell. One of the dining room chairs broke when my 45 pound child sat in it and the cord to one of the blinds in the bedroom broke. The biggest mystery of all was the air freshener strategically placed outside next to the underside of the house. It makes you wonder what critter may have died under the house and perhaps is causing a stench? Vacasa staff were great and very responsive to my concerns and provided me a full refund. However, renter beware... this place needs to be condemned until the owner has the place renovated and stocked with decent furniture. I will say the kitchen, bathroom as well as linens were clean and well stocked and there were newer appliances and tv/cable/dvd/internet worked fine. But, please don't rent this expecting a nice comfortable stay. The view is great if you are out in the yard or viewing from the dining room window, but is blocked by overgrown vegetation from anywhere else in the home. It is part of a duplex, so you don't have fantastic privacy (we ran into our neighbors out of the deck and can hear them walking around next door) and it is right on the highway, so expect a lot of road noise. There absolutely no beach access from here and while the park is about a half mile or so down the road, you do not walk to walk along this highway as it is too dangerous, so you will definitely want to drive there. Last, we kept passing the place on the first day or two because there are no markings from the road and if you use GPS, it will tell you that you are at your destination after you have already passed the driveway. Once the repairs are made and place cleaned up and updated, it might make for a good rental, but for now, it should be pulled from the listings. Renter beware!
We are very sorry to read about this experience and understand what a disappointment it must have been for our guest. We are working with the owner on making repairs and improvements. Thank you!
Nikki B.Aug 2018
We had such a lovely trip to this home!! The views of the beach are incredible, and the house itself is so cozy. We had everything we needed to cook a wonderful dinner and an even better breakfast. The backyard is super private, even though this is part of a duplex. The fire pit was definitely the cherry on top - a glass of wine in front of the fire while looking out over the beach was a dream. Plus, beach access is only a few minutes' drive down the road. Can't wait to come back to this home again!!
Claudia S.Jul 2018
Although the house could you some work, it was a great place for us to stay for the week. It really felt like home. I wish I would have known there was no beach access from the unit but to sit on the deck and watch the waves suited us just fine. We would definitely Consider staying again.
Jennifer D.Jun 2018
This cute little duplex was almost everything we needed on our vacation. The view was incredible and we super appreciated the very nice grill, which we cooked most of our meals on. We spent most of our time on the big porch taking in the sight and sound of the ocean. The house was clean and comfortable, though has obviously been on the beach for a while--the floors are uneven, and the bathroom floor creaked ominously and had a couple of suspicious soft spots.
All in all, it was definitely what we needed. The things that could have made it better? A corkscrew to open our wine (there wasn't one anywhere in the kitchen!) and a screen door to the porch (we had two birds fly into the living room and get confused/need help getting out with the door open).
We were so sad to leave!
We have replaced the missing cork screw, and we are discussing the floor with the owner. Thanks!
Ryan B.Jun 2018
This location was amazing. The home was a bit tired and dated, but warm and comfortable.
LINDSEY B.Jun 2018
The view is amazing and the beds were surprisingly comfortable. The rest of the house seems to be falling apart. The dining room is literally sinking. Not a right angle to be found throughout the whole house. The carpet is pretty stained. The wineglasses were dirty (likely because the check out requires you wash and put away dishes, meaning that the cleaners never check the dishes to see if they are clean). There are only 3 large plates, so having a dinner for 4 required using a small plate. There is no access to the beach without driving. This house is a duplex, which I missed.
Robert O.May 2018
As many have said before, the view was great but would be a lot better if they took out the huge bush in the way. The place was clean and well stocked but the carpets were terribly stained and gave the place a dirty feel. From reviews it seems like this has been a problem for years. New carpet for such a small area can’t cost that much. Also, they have a bad sub flooring problem in the dining room. Very easy to trip and fall if your not careful. While we had a nice relaxing time ( we adapted!) we would not rent this cottage again unless upgrades were made.
We are in the process of taking this home under the wing of our design team which will help with quite a few of the comments in this review. Thank you!
Roxanne F.May 2018
The location was perfect. Just far enough outside of town to get more secluded and the view was amazing. Would have liked a table on the patio, but loved that it was a stocked kitchen. The only noise we heard were the waves crashing. I would definitely come again.
Marie-louise W.Mar 2018
The view and the fact that we could bring our dog made for a great stay.
Kevin G.Feb 2018
Jennifer B.Dec 2017
Overall the home was adorable with a perfect oceanfront view. We loved the deck and all the views from the home. It's perfect for a small family or couple. We will come back in future.
Benjamin S.Oct 2017
The view was nice, especially since it'd pull you outside... the unit itself is a double wide manufactured home, duplex. The non existent insulation and mismatched walls don't lend to the property's charm. The musky smell can be overwhelming, though, opening windows helps- which means one would then have to deal with the general coldness of the coast. Pick your poison. The smell isn't a coastal salty musk. It's a nose-curling moisture-in-the-walls with the sun cooking the scent out, kind of smell.
Next time, I'd pay a pinch more and head to a different property.
The property manager is currently working with the owner on updating the floors, walls, and furniture. Thank you!
Elizabeth S.Sep 2017
If you want the ocean and walk the beaches and visit the surrounding area you found it here. The location was and had everything needed. Not fancy but comfortable if you want luxury this is not the location.
Dana W.Aug 2017
This was a simple but nice 2-bedroom cottage right on the ocean. The view is spectacular. You should know that there is no way to get down to the beach from the cottage - it's too steep. So you have to go down the road to the state beach.
Donna D.Aug 2017
The view is the whole selling point of the property!! With just a little bit of upgrading this could be a spectacular rental!!
Michael A.Jun 2017
House needs remodeled and was told it is next to get just that as the unit next door was being remodeled during our stay (not an inconvenience).
Beach access need put in place. Very steep drop off from back yard (no access to beach). Manager said they are working with property owner on that.
This could very well be an outstanding place to rent and I'm sure it will be from what I got from the manager but during our stay it was only (ok).
Joe K.May 2017
We booked this spot for Memorial Day 2017... Arrive Thursday after work and a drive from the Valley... Opened the door to a spectacular view of the ocean and fishing boats. The house smelled clean and was all in order.
Plenty of room for 4 folks for a long weekend... great to have a washing machine and dryer.
We truly enjoyed the deck and backyard looking over the ocean. Even though this had no beach access the Day Use State Park Beaches are about 2 miles away in either direction... wide nice sandy beaches.... with sunshine... we were so lucky.
We enjoyed the beach in the day time and every evening came back for cocktails and treats.... One of the evenings we were witness to two Whales and their calves swimming by... Great Whale watching area... The bunnies and snakes in the garden were all a delight.
Memorable spot and weekend.
We were probably the first to use the property this year. It seems that the issues observed in the reviews from 2016 have been dealt with. I would recommend this others.
Joyce T.Sep 2016
This was a get away from it all weekend. Even with drizzle rain, it was great to open the deck door, listen to the waves and read. Very comfy beach cottage feeling. Well equipped kitchen.
Shelley C.Aug 2016
This home and location has enormous potential. The views of the ocean are really amazing! The owners/ management are genuinely trying , but a few small upgrades could really put the home over the top. The house was clean when we arrived, but somewhat dated . Amenities were supplied, but sparce. Towels and linens were plentiful, although a bit old. Comfortable, quiet, nice barbeque, no problem with the dog next door. A little difficult for the turn off of hwy 101 getting in the driveway, but otherwise very convenient and centrally located.
Rick N.Aug 2016
Really good value; house is kid and pet friendly. The view from the back deck and yard is amazing. If you are looking for luxury and beach access, this is not the place for you, and you will have to spend a lot more $$$.
Carmen S.Jul 2016
A beautiful view in a Oregon close to shopping , beaches and more!
Lynn M.Jul 2016
Local beaches are wonderful and location is close to Newport for groceries, etc. The rug was very stained -many, many large stains throughout the house. The carpet cleaning promised by the management in response to another review has not happened. The pictures on the website showing the view are misleading; about half the backyard is overgrown with weeds and bushes that are taller than the fence. All that overgrowth blocked an otherwise great view of the water. Too bad. We won't be going back.
We really appreciate your feedback and are happy to announce that the carpets have been professionally cleaned, the flooring in the kitchen and bathrooms have been replaced and the landscaping team has cut down the overgrowth! Our future guests will have a clear view of the water and the beautiful surrounding area.
JR E.Jun 2016
This place is so run down, it isn't worth $50/night. It's also a duplex next to a couple of dogs that don't quit barking and owners/guests that smoke on the adjoining patio.
Henry M.Jun 2016
Nice place for people with dogs
Caroline S.Jun 2016
Although this property has some issues, overall it is okay, and could actually be fabulous. Whoever is responsible for the outside maintenance isn't doing their job. You can't see the ocean sitting on the deck because of the jungle in front of you. Nothing a little work couldn't take care of. I noticed a review from April of this year about pet stains and smell on the carpet. The management replied that they would get the carpets shampooed right away, so went ahead and booked the property. Don't think the carpets were shampooed, and the cleaning looked a little haphazard in other areas. Wouldn't recommend this property to friends until it has a little work, but it has so many possibilities. Hope whoever owns it takes care of it.
Kelley M.Jun 2016
The house is dated and has been well used. However, the view is simply breathtaking. The kitchen is clean and well stocked and the beds are comfortable. There is no beach access in that area but several really nice access points close (not walkable.) It is a great location close to everything but away from the traffic and mass of people.
Kimberly S.Apr 2016
Unless they spend some money and give this place some needed attention do not waste your time or money. Pet toilet, carpet has numerous pee stains the cottage smells terrible and the neighbors (other half of duplex) have dogs that bark if you go outside. No beach access. Nice view though if you spend a few minutes and rearrange the couch to in front of the window instead of facing the wall and tv.
We are sorry to see that the carpet had a bad odor to it and will schedule a carpet cleaning as soon as possible.
Lesley B.Mar 2016
Property was clean and cozy. Furnishings were basic, but in good condition.
Nancy B.Sep 2015
We loved the sunsets that we saw sitting on the deck, and also loved the moon shining over the ocean later that evening. The view from the living room and dining room was so relaxing. Even though we could not get to the beach from the property, we could see it as if it was only a stone's throw away! One of the most relaxing weekends I have had in a long, long time.
Brenda S.Jul 2015
Amazing views! Well stocked kitchen. We made some great seafood on the gas grill. Comfortable beds. Carpets were stained and had a faint odor of dog pee when the living room got warm. I'd still go back because of the views and value.
Gabi D.Jun 2015
We enjoyed our short stay very much. The house has everything you need to make a home away from home.
My partner is very sensitive to chemicals, odors, air fresheners, etc. So it is a challenge to find a nice getaway where it seems that just spaying air fresheners counts as a clean room. I want to express my gratitude that the property was very clean but not overloaded with chemical and air freshers and other cleaners that usually triggers an allergic reaction. Thank you so much!
We're happy to hear that the home was well-stocked and clean and that you enjoyed your stay. We make every effort to use products that do not contain strong perfumes or other chemicals that might trigger reactions in people with sensitivities. We hope to see you again soon, and thanks for choosing Vacasa!
Wendy T.Mar 2015
We were traveling with two dogs. It would have been nice to have a small fence at the end of the grassy area so they could be off leash, but that might alter the view. Had a challenge getting the t.v. to work .Unfortunately had lost cell phone service. It would be nice if a set of the house instructions were left at the house. I did not print the ones sent to me via email. That said, could not ask for a better house . We will be back!
Thank you for your review. We are thrilled you had a nice stay at this lovely cottage. It definitely has spectacular views and that could be why the owner has chosen not to have a fenced yard. We are glad that you and your dogs loved the home still! We hope that you had a wonderful trip to South Beach and we appreciate your suggestion to add TV instructions so that future guests don't struggle with getting it to work as well. Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you again!
Alan T.Nov 2014
First off we would like to thank the staff at VACASA for getting us into such a nice, (and inexpensive) place on such short notice. We really appreciate it.The view was spectacular and watching the storm blow through was exciting and a little scary, but really fun. Watching the seals and sea lions fishing and playing in the waves behind the house was fun
also and the folks next door have a hummingbird feeder outside and the beautiful little birds were everywhere. It was kind of amazing to watch them trying to fly around in such strong winds. Real fun. Watching the little bunny rabbit that lives under the bush beside the deck was fun too. He was so cautious and timid when he came out, always looking over his shoulder, never realizing that we were only a few short feet away watching and taking pics. What a treat. Last but not least, a big THANX to Ted the property manager for getting the cable and wi-fi back on line so quickly.Thank you Ted. My wife wouldn't have known what to do without her facebook to post all those wonderful pics out to her friends and family. We would tell anybody thats looking for a restfull retreat to check you guys out. Thanx again to everyone at Vacasa. TERRI-n-AL THOMPSON.P.S. Our pets LIL GIRL NEWT and SIDEWAYS KLYDDE say Thanx too...

walking to beach access along side of hiway. was a little scary a coulple times, mainly if a RV, Trucks, would go over white line. for the dollars you pay I wonder why they have not built stairs like the 1st unit.
Thank you for your review. We're glad you were happy with the home but sorry to hear you were not impressed with the location. There is no direct beach access right from the yard (home is on a cliff) you can be on the sand at Driftwood Beach (north) or Ona Beach (south), in a short drive or scenic 10 minute walk.

The directions are wrong. You turn right at the 148 mile marker not 146. We had a bit of an issue finding the turn off due to the directions but once there we were very happy with our stay. The ocean is loud and relaxing from the backyard patio. There is a small fire pit that we also put to good use. There was also a gas BBQ but we didn't have time to use it. There is a great fish market just down the road where we bought fresh caught and smoked salmon and made salad for dinner one of the nights. The location is great and is shielded from the highway by a tall berm. They have about all the utensils you would need to cook, there was even a waffle maker. There is beach access two units over but it is private so you have to drive over to Lost Beach which seamed to be the closest and was about two minutes away. We walked the beach for hours one of the evenings. It was also nice that there was cable with on demand as well as a DVD/BluRay player. We rented movies from Redbox in Newport but once we were at the cottage we realized there was a huge amount of on demand for HBO, Showtime and Cinemax. We loved the stay, very relaxing.
Thank you for your excellent review and feedback. We're glad that you enjoyed your stay in this comfortable oceanfront cottage. We wonder if you might have misunderstood the driving directions as the driveway for the home is at mile marker 146. Regardless, we are so glad that you found the home and enjoyed your stay with us! We hope you'll come again.
