Escape into the lush redwood groves of Sonoma County at this two-bedroom Guerneville home, a serene retreat with a cozy treehouse ambience, a gorgeous deck beneath a forest canopy, and an ideal location for exploring the Russian River, the surrounding wine country, and the wild ocean coast.

This single-level home sits in a grove of old-growth redwoods one mile southwest of downtown Guerneville, a unique, artsy town on the banks of the Russian River. Take morning hikes in Armstrong Woods State Natural Reserve three miles north, spend afternoons swimming and kayaking in the river at Johnson's Beach (one-mile northeast) and Monte Rio Beach (four miles south), and treat yourself to a scenic day of wine tasting at Korbel Champagne Cellars four miles east.

A beautiful space for two couples or a small family, the living area is open, inviting, and full of forest views. Prepare homemade waffles in the kitchen (with stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher) each morning, enjoy breakfast by the window as the sound dock plays in the background, and use the free WiFi to prepare for your visit to Sonoma Coast State Park 12 miles southwest.

Come home from a day of kayaking, canoeing, and swimming in the Russian River to curl up with a book on the sectional sofa, choose something to watch on Netflix or cable, and light the gas grill among the trees on the spectacular back deck. The porch is also the perfect place to take a seat at the patio table, shuffle a deck of cards, and open a new bottle of wine from Porter Bass, Martinelli, La Crema, or one of the other local vineyards.

Lovely space. Truly feels like you're in a treehouse in the middle of the Redwoods. Everything was clean and modern. Sad when I had to leave.

The house was clean. The kitchen is new and well stocked. We did not spend much time hanging out at the house. We used it as home base to explore the area. It's very close to good hikes. kayaking, and wine country. The house would really benefit from a professional paint job inside and out. I would recommend this house. We liked the location, art, and back deck.

Overall, the house is delightful and quite a bargain for the price. The place is nicely furnished, and we loved the artwork throughout the house (saw nothing “odd” about the artwork, although others have commented on it as being “creepy” - we saw nothing of the sort.) The kitchen in particular is clearly brand new, beautifully stocked with every imaginable tool and accessory, and the new gas stove is definitely a plus. The cute little bar area behind the kitchen which leads to a spectacular porch is also lovely. I’ll also say that we had plenty of towels, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, dish soap, etc… goodness the apocalypse could have arrived and we would have been stocked for quite a while. Thank you for that.

Some minor drawbacks–we didn’t find any instructions for the water heater and so one of us had nice warm showers and the other only cold for most of the visit. We still don’t know why.

The refrigerator also never seemed to get truly “cold,” but on the other side the freezer was unusable… it was completely full of build up frost and ice and badly in need of a defrosting and cleaning.

Be warned that the beds are “futon” style; that means they are very, very low to the ground and the mattress is held up only by slats running across the base of the bed. One of us actually had those slats fall through to the floor and make the bed unusable, were it not for the fact that we’re accustomed to that type of bed and knew how to fix it easily.

Also - the second bathroom near the kitchen is very nice, but its door is a slatted door; allowing all the “sounds” of “bathroom activity” to be clearly audible everywhere in the house. For some, this might feel like a privacy issue.

I’d also say that we found cobwebs just about everywhere, and it’s clear that while the place is superficially cleaned regularly for guests, it’s really in need of a deep cleaning.

Overall, though, a very good stay, and we would book this place again, even with all of the above in mind.
Manager response:
We are glad to see this guest was still pleased with their rental despite some drawbacks. A deep clean has been scheduled for the home; it is located in a heavily wooded area amidst the trees and cobwebs are a constant battle. Maintenance is scheduled for the appliances and bed. Thank you!

A nice cabin. Well appointed kitchen. Wi-fi and Netflix available as well as Bose speaker. Big deck. Close to town. Within a one hour drive to Sonoma or Napa.
