Cute as can be, this bright and comfortable studio Santa Cruz vacation rental offers a nicely-designed and romantic retreat (complete with a shared hot tub) for a weekend getaway near the stunning California Coast! This vacation rental is located in the backyard of a private residence, but has a separate entrance and is very private and secluded.

Just five blocks to the beach and beautiful Mitchell Cove, this location is also just over a mile to the famous Santa Cruz beach Boardwalk! Ride carnival rides, get a snack, or simply watch a beach volley ball game or the seagulls fly overhead. Head out to the Wharf for a dinner out and afterwards, your cozy English Garden Suite will be waiting just for you!

Unplug and unwind here - there's no TV, but it's a perfect excuse to bring that book always wanted to read or just spend your time lounging on the adorable patio. The interior of this well-planned suite has red walls, a lovely English garden theme, and a queen-size bed for a wonderful night's sleep for up to two guests.

The full bathroom has a walk-in shower, and while there is no kitchen, you'll have a coffeemaker and a mini-refrigerator. There is also WiFi. There is also a charcoal grill on the patio, so you could prepare some steaks for an al fresco dinner. Of course, this area also has a number of good eateries - pick up a pie at Pizza My Heart, stop by Cafe Brasil for a brunch feast, or walk just up the road to Parish Publick House for a beer and a roast beef and brie sandwich.

In the evenings, soak in the shared hot tub and watch the stars, admire the sunset from the beach, or just curl up with a good book. Santa Cruz is also a great home base for area day trips to Monterey and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, about 45 miles south or head north, and be exploring the streets of San Francisco in about an hour-and-a-half. Of course, you may opt to just enjoy the hot tub, patio, and romantic style of this cozy Santa Cruz retreat!

No matter how you spend your time at this Central California Coast vacation rental, you and up to one guest will have a perfectly comfortable retreat for lazy days and true relaxation, just blocks from the Pacific Ocean!

In town for a wedding.
Two days simple.
Clean accommodations.
Hot tub, lacking instructions to make it hot but worked out fine.
Small but waterfall or elephant shower.
If your over 200 lbs. the toilet is not for you. Sorry 😐
Manager response:
Thank you for leaving feedback, Jason! We're pleased to hear this cozy garden studio suited you well for a wedding trip. We'll be sure to add instructions for the hot tub, and we hope to have another chance to impress you in the future!

Convenient to every place we decided to go! Within walking distance to stores & beaches! Hot tub was a welcome relief after long day’s hiking.
Tricia N. Apr 2019
We were stopping by for a couple of nights and this was just what we needed - a small place to rest our heads. Nothing too lavish, adequate accommodations. There were a lot of spare towels and linens.

Location & privacy

The spa was really nice to be able to take advantage of period they had a prior to us arriving which was a huge plus! The house was perfect for 2, the shower had a nice shower head and good water pressure. I would definitely recommend staying here.

My husband and I stayed in this very sweet space and it was just what we were looking for - a comfy bed, a place that felt more like home, a tall shower, and a hot tub! Unfortunately, our schedules were too busy to try the hot tub... we wish we did, because the patio where it’s located feels very private and well landscaped. I will definitely keep this place in mind for future visits.

Loved the cozy cottage feel, tucked way in back of the property. Quiet and very comfortable for sleeping. Adequate bathroom. Attention to details like a microwave, fridge, and coffeemaker. Pretty garden with lots of birds to look at. Plenty of supplies such as towels, shampoo, soap, coffee, etc.
Patricia C. Sep 2018
Nice place in a great location. The only reason they got four stars instead of five, is because the sliding glass door didn't work for access to the patio. It would have been so much better with that side access. Loved the hot tub too. We will rent again when visiting Santa Cruz.

My partner and I were in Santa Cruz for a friend's wedding, and this was a great place to stay for the weekend. It was close to the beach, which my partner enjoyed on one of his morning jogs, and we were close to a lot of good restaurants. It was easy to get on the road and see some redwoods as well! Everything was organized and cozy. I did have two minor issues with this rental. The first was that the Keurig was not easy to use. The second is that the shower is very small. Not only is it a small space in the shower, but the showerhead is vertically oriented and takes up most of that space. If you tend to move around in the shower you will need to adjust your expectations.

The studio garden cottage didn't feel like a cramped space at all! The cobbled path and artfully arranged planting lead to a secluded Oasis in Santa Cruz.

The location is phenomenal; I found multiple local coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance, and if you're feeling adventurous, it's a good long walk to the wharf.

I felt safe in the early morning and in the late evening coming and going, and the bed was like a cloud. Best bed I've ever stayed on for travel. I didn't wake up with numb limbs or back pain.

Clean and quiet.

Location, and amenities (minus TV) food nearby, beach nearby, parking easy, peace and quiet? check. Privacy also check.
Ann S. Jul 2018
The only positive was the hot tub Very clean. Only 1 chair in the bed room. Cheap utensils, wire coat hangers. Finally found a fan and a space heater. Many extension cords, no hand rails in the bathroom and on and on. We would not recommend it especially for the price.
Manager response:
We are sorry to see our guest was unhappy. This unit is a cozy studio with room for a bed, chair and table, chest of drawers, and two night tables with lamps. There is a mini-fridge in the closet, serviceable utensils, microwave oven, Keurig coffeemaker, and a small bath with a stand-up shower. This is not luxury, but it is a great option for someone needing a place to land while enjoying all Santa Cruz has to offer. The best part is the location, which is only four blocks from West Cliff Drive. Thank you!

We stayed in the garden cottage - a very cute and nicely remodeled garage. We felt comfortably at home and although the neighborhood could be a little noisy at times, this was a secluded and calm refuge. We enjoyed having the hot tub just feet away and all to ourselves since it didn't appear anyone else was around. We would certainly go back again!
Daniel N. Jun 2018
It was very clean and extremely quiet. There wasn't anyone in the front house so we had the property to ourselves. We weren't able to use the patio due to weather but the hot tub was great. The parking was amble. Close to everything. I only wish they would have provided some coffee to make. But highly recommend this place.
Kelli G. May 2018
Good location with good communication/instructions from owner. Comfortable space, would stay here again.
Nathan T. Feb 2018
I'm definitely coming back here. It was cozy, quiet, private, pleasant, and had everything I was hoping for.
Jessica R. Feb 2018
Loved this place. Shared a hot tub with the main house, but everything still managed to feel really private. It was a great location, and cute little studio. Thanks, Vacasa!

I don't want to leave a review - why do I have to put this in here just to give feedback on cleanliness and other house keeping issues?

With the exception of a constantly dripping shower head that was quite a nuisance the overall experience was OK. It's in a great location, easy to get to everything and there's a nice hot tub.
Manager response:
We are sorry to see the shower head was a nuisance and will get it replaced right away. Thanks!
Christian Q. Aug 2017
It was convenient nice for maybe a one night stay . Minutes from the beach but definitely does not have a beach view as it seems it would. Pricey for what you get patio furniture needs to be updated and seems like it hasn't been used all summer. It made me wonder if people actually clean the room or just go in spray lysol and call it "ready" so many cob webs were present in the corners on the pictures and in the bathroom.
Juliann L. Aug 2017
The bed was very comfortable . It was clean, quiet and private. The surrounding garden could use some TLC
Andy M. Jul 2017
This humble little granny unit is on the Westside, very close to some great breweries and cafes. It's not insulated and get a lot of sunshine during the day, so it really heats up as people have noticed. They should really leave a box fan somewhere for people to use, because the evenings are quite cool. It's a great base of operations if you are looking to go biking or walk along the cliff paths.
Dan R. May 2017
This studio (sort of like a mother in law unit in the back yard of a house) was in a nice neighborhood away from all the tourist stuff. There's brewpubs, restaurants and cafes around without tons of traffic. There's a great, quiet beach just a few blocks away. The locals bring their dogs to run there.
It's a bit of a distance from the studio to walk to the boardwalk but not impossible if you are healthy.
The yard surrounding the studio is cute and full of iron patio furniture and includes a hot tub/spa (though we didn't use it).
Mary K. Nov 2016
Perfect if you don't plan to spend your whole trip in the room. Beach and surrounding areas make it very easy to stay outside and enjoy the sights!
Mark J. Nov 2016
so we wanted to get away from the bay for the weekend and found this nice little property with a hot tub and a short walk from the beach. the room was nice and cozy, clean and also quiet. overall we were very happy with the quality of our stay for the cost. the only things that were less than optimal was that the room seemed to lack adequate ventilation and during the hottest part of the day felt stuffy, a small pump or motor kept turning on randomly and was a little annoying when snoozing or reading. other than those very manageable things we realy enjoyed our stay hear.

the only realy annoying this was the $65 cleaning fee which for the simplicity and size of the room seemed incredibly high, and will defiantly prevent us from returning to this property in the future for a short stay or the weekend.
Marji W. Nov 2016
You can walk to the beach, restaurants, grocery store etc. Walking distance to the monarch butterflies too
Tammy B. Oct 2016
This cute little cottage is very close to the main house but there is enough foliage to give you the privacy you need. Would have been helpful to know if the main house was occupied so your not tip toeing around. Sliding glass door doesn't lock. That was a little unnerving as I was a woman traveling alone.
Cute place, quiet. Good price. I'll be back!
Manager response:
The Property Manager has ensured the sliding door lock works and has provided a dowel for guest use in case they have difficulty with the lock.
Diana L. Sep 2016
It was easy to find and a comfortable clean place to stay. We loved the quiet neighborhood so close to the beach.
Amrick S. Sep 2016
Cute . Private. Good location. Hotel style room. Basic mini fridge and small coffee machine. Little tight but pretty yard / patio space and good location made up for it. Peaceful place to stay
Jeff R. Sep 2016
Location was fantastic and the place was clean. But make no mistake, it is a small room with a bed and a small bathroom. There is a nice hot tub on the patio that you would presumably share with the residents. They were not there when we stayed. The refrigerator is a mini-fridge and the coffee maker is a single-cup brewer. No TV, but they do have wifi. If all you're looking for is somewhere to crash, this place is great!
Jacqueline K. Sep 2016
really enjoyed the quiet location of this rental. walking distance to the beach as well verve coffee, restaurants, and markets. Quaint little house in large back yard, nice hot tub. Would stay here again. Would be nice if there was a small microwave, other than that it's great!
Marc W. Sep 2016
Great little spot in a legendary neighborhood. Close to the ocean as well as good food and drink; what more can you ask for? It was just a nice, relaxing setting. Can't wait to go back...
Cyla N. Aug 2016
great little place! convenient to beach and shopping.
Caleb D. Aug 2016
The article is a little misleading. It is actually about 2 miles to the boardwalk, not 1 as listed. This only makes a difference if you plan to walk there like we did.

The cottage didn't seem very private. It is located in the backyard of another house. There is a sliding glass door that leads out to the yard and the blinds leave about an 18 inch gap from the floor. Somebody sitting in the right spot in the yard could see right into the bedroom.

When we arrived the inside of the unit was neat and orderly, however the outside was not at all like pictured. The front of the building was covered in spider webs. The first night after checking in we killed 2 spiders in the bathroom and a couple more in the bedroom. On the second day we discovered one of the small tables covered in webs and several tiny spiders. They kept coming in from somewhere and as fast as we killed them, they were back the next day. We quickly went to Safeway and bought a can of Raid to spray the place down. We only saw a couple the day following that. Thankfully none got on the bed or into our bags. It looked like the place hadn't been sprayed for bugs in quite a while. I would not recommend this place unless you are prepared to share it with a couple dozen little friends.
Manager response:
We appreciate having the opportunity to respond to this feedback. The home is closer to two mile to the boardwalk; we will have our advertising team correct that as soon as possible. The yard is very clean and as the owners are at the home regularly to do maintenance and yard work. The home has been sprayed for spiders and bugs, and all spiderwebs have been removed.

Definitely plan to to return!

Nice location
Amy F. Jul 2016
This studio was a perfect fit for our two day trip to Santa Cruz. It is close to West Cliff and walking distance to the Swift Street Wineries and taprooms/breweries. We were happy with the location and felt the place was well taken care of. It is a granny unit and shares a back yard with a bigger house. We were very lucky to have the property to ourselves. I might not have been as happy to have shared the space with a big group of people. In any case, we would risk having to share the space again because we did have a very positive experience.
Andrew F. Jul 2016
Nice private cute room not too far from the coast. Nice hot tub to relax in after a full day. Cozy quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely stay again.

Great little spot
Catharine C J. Jun 2016
The English Garden cottage was very small, but very clean, comfortable and pleasant. It was a low-priced alternative to local, decent-quality hotel rooms. For seniors who don't party and who value quiet surroundings (and can manage the one steep step and a tiny shower stall) this is a lovely alternative that's located in walking distance to West Cliff drive, restaurants and grocery store.
Doug H. Jun 2016
The front house was empty so I had a lot of privacy and enjoyed this cute little Santa Cruz shack. Easy walk to the ocean and beach, perfect for a quick getaway for 1 or 2.
Kim H. May 2016
A quaint little place to stay. It was a perfect home base as we traveled the area. Very comfortable bed!
Sue W. Apr 2016
This property is in a good location near the cliffs on the west side of Santa Cruz. The bed and bedding were nice. The shower was good. This unit needs a frig and a TV it is a little too spartan for the price being charged. Also an additional wastebasket in the main room.
Alex B. Mar 2016
It was nice
Michael O. Mar 2016
We loved the first two days at this place. It's a really neat micro-home behind a normal neighborhood home. We were told that the main house used to be for rent also, but now the owners have taken it off the rental market and stay there occasionally. Over the weekend, the main house was used for a party by some college-aged folks. It wasn't all that wild and it ended before midnight both nights, but it did get loud and we didn't feel like we could use the yard or hot tub with the party going on. That's the only reason we wouldn't return.
Katherine S. Feb 2016
This little place was great for a few days away. It has a small fridge and a charcoal grill, which made it possible for us to stay in most nights. It's within walking distance to the beach, and much more private than I expected.
Nancy B. Feb 2016
Small but affordable, quiet, and a short walk to the coast. Nice hot tub and garden setting to lounge and enjoy.
Ashley W. Aug 2015
This place is perfect for two (or one) people! The suite is small, but being in Santa Cruz, we were only in there to shower and sleep, so it was perfect! The backyard was really nice, it had a lot of seating and a great setting to have an afternoon glass of wine. Enjoyed the spa once it cooled down at night. Although the backyard is shared with the front house, it is big enough that we felt like we had it to ourselves for the most part. The last night we were there the owners were staying in the front rental. The owners were very friendly and fun to talk to, such nice people, I would love to rent their property again! The neighborhood was quiet and in a great area, just a couple blocks down to beach cliffs and a few blocks to restaurants and a shopping center. Would definitely recommend this to other couples!
Joan P R. Jun 2015
This really is a suite. It worked for us because our son & family live 2 blocks away, & we spent most of our time there. It's not set up for any meals, even a light breakfast, & space to unpack is very limited. If renters of the larger rental on this property were using the hot tub & patio, Suite users' privacy would be nil. On the positive side, the bed was great & the place was clean. Don't recommend for folks with mobility issues as flagstone paths are very uneven. We learned that we prefer VRBO rentals where owners live on same site.
John M. May 2015
This little cottage was a perfect West-side location for a weekend surf trip to Santa Cruz. Easy access to The Lane and other spots north of the city. We were stoked to be walking distance to the Santa Cruz Mountain Brewery for beers in the evening and loved soaking in the hot tub after long, cold-water surf sessions. We'll definitely come back!
Anna W. May 2015
The studio was all we needed to use as a home base for Santa Cruz culinary and outdoor adventures. The bed was comfy and the hot tub perfect for warming up on a foggy afternoon. We will definitely be back!
Manager response:
Thank you for your 5 star review! We are glad you enjoyed this homes amenities and location. Thank you for choosing Vacasa!
Jeannine P. Jan 2015
As I said earlier, the place is perfectly located close to the Cliff Drive (coast line), the wine tasting rooms, and Wilder Ranch, where we mt biked. The hot tub was a wonderful perk and the grounds were very clean and peaceful. I would definitely stay here again!
