Classic oceanfront beach home with gorgeous views and vintage atmosphere

With the charm of a 1950s beach-side retreat and updated amenities that include WiFi and a large screen HDTV, this Santa Cruz vacation rental offers a spectacular getaway right on Sunny Cove Beach!

Built in 1957, this charming and historic home is right across the street from the ocean and beach! You'll enjoy spectacular views of the waves right from the living room windows! The beach house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, so it's ideal for a peaceful getaway - but when you want to head to downtown Santa Cruz or the historic Beach Boardwalk, it's just a couple of miles west.

A tribute to mid-century Americana, the spacious living room features comfortable furniture, wood beam ceilings, and classic wood paneling. Settle into one of the sofas for an evening in front of the wood-burning fireplace or watch a Blu-ray disc on the large screen HDTV with surround sound (there's also satellite service and easy hook-up for MP3 players).

In the large kitchen, you'll have everything you need for delicious vacation meals, including major appliances, a wooden butcher block island, and plenty of counterspace for kitchen helpers to chop vegetables or grate cheese. And outside, you'll have a gas firepit for enjoying the ocean air and sounds and a gas grill for barbecues.

At night, four bedrooms provide spots for up to 10 guests and three full bathrooms assure that no one has to wait in line to get ready in the morning. One room has a large king-size bed and two twin beds, as well as its own private bathroom, while another bedroom has a queen-size bed and a bathroom as well. There are also two bedrooms with a set of bunk beds each - perfect for younger guests! All rooms have cozy quilts, and extras like writing desks, bedside tables, couches, and sitting areas.

Extras include a basketball hoop, a full-size pool table (which can also double as a dining room table!), board games, a Ping-Pong table, and toys - kids will love it here! And you don't have to worry about keeping your clothes clean while out playing on the beach, because you'll even have a laundry room with a washer and dryer.

When you want to dig your toes into the sand, it's just a quick walk across a quiet street and you'll be right at Sunny Cove Beach! Also just a few blocks away is the Windmill Cafe for morning lattes and bagels, as well as Twin Lakes State Beach, and the Crow's Nest restaurant for dinner with a view.

The popular Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is under three miles away, as are a number of other restaurants, bars, and shops. From your Sunny Cove Retreat, the University of California Santa Cruz is a short five mile drive, and day trips to Monterey Bay and Silicon Valley can usually be made within an hour.

This Central California Coast vacation rental offers amazing ocean views and updated amenities! Perfect for family vacations or group retreats, when you plan a stay at this Sunny Cover Retreat, you'll have an amazing time walking along the shoreline, making s'mores after dinner, and exploring the picturesque beach town of Santa Cruz!

Lots of amenities. Lots of space. Wonderful views. Close to downtown Capitola.

Dish washer did not work though.
Manager response:
We are glad you enjoyed your stay, David! The upper rack of the dishwasher is not usable at this time, but the bottom half is functional and available for guest use. Thanks!

Pluses: the view, the spaciousness of the rooms, the front swing, pool table

Great home, great location, great set up. I would definitely recommend this home. I’m hoping to come back with the family.
Only comment was that the we could not get WiFi to work but that was probably better so we could enjoy the setting and the stay.....instead Of on electronics.

You really can’t beat this spot. Beautiful home with lots of character but modern amenities. Breathtaking views of Sunny Cove and Monterey Bay just steps from the water. A hot tub, outdoor living space with a fire table, great for a big family. We keep coming back to this wonderful home.
Christopher H. Jul 2019
If you want to hang out with friends, you could spend a couple sunny days here without leaving the neighborhood and have a blast.

Great place for a big family.

The location of this home is unbelievable. Sunny Cove is a beautiful locale that was a huge plus for my family. As for the home itself, while it has an abundance of character, the age of the home and the furniture/doors/beds kept us minding our 'P's and Q's' throughout our stay. All things considered, a great place if you have mature persons staying in the home. Not ideal for young children or adolescences who might not be respectful of a vintage home environment.

We were celebrating my daughter's birthday so had a large group . The house is spacious enough to accommodate everyone. The location and view are excellent. Enjoyed having our morning coffee on the front porch watching the surfers. As stated in other reviews there is no dining room table but having the pool table more than made up for that. Our children and adult grandchildren really enjoyed playing pool. Also, there is a large picnic table and benches on the patio that works for dinners and if you really want a dining table there is plexiglas in the garage that can go on top of the pool table. The kitchen has enough utensils and cookware to accommodate a large group. Did not have enough coffee cups/mugs. Had to bring our own. Also, there is a lack of TV channels so couldn't watch the Masters or the Giants. But overall we were very happy.
Manager response:
We have purchased another set of coffee mugs. We appreciate having this brought to our attention. Thanks!

location is perfect, the breeze in the morning from the sea is so refreshing.
the house is clean & the size is so appropriate for our group...even the kids said they want to go back to santa cruz 😉

We were stuck because we made our plans at the last minute. The house was ridiculously expensive. Nice view and location, and the kitchen was fairly well outfitted (we baked cookies). Lack of dining table is insane. Pool table was fun to have. Probably better that we didn't have cable TV, but I do think most guests will expect it. Nice that it has a washer and dryer. Large rooms nice for groups. I would call the decor and furniture "tired" (or maybe even exhausted). The house was advertised as having a hot tub, but it was non-functional.

Large family home... with a spectacular view. Loved the feel and space but that's about it. Broken item list: windows in bathroom unable to close, tv/WiFi not working (security issues in neighborhood... never get on unsecured wifi), garbage disposal not working, hot tub not hot, broken toilet seats, necessary cleaning items....too many at this point. I would say property management is poor. Would never go through this site again ... stay with Airbnb.
Manager response:
We are very sorry to read this review as we were able to address every problem listed in this review in a timely fashion. We apologize they were present to begin with; they are no longer problems at this time.

great home
Jennifer J. Aug 2017
The house has incredible views and is wonderfully located. Good, open area for guests to hang out together. The only dining table is outside on the porch (there is a eat-at counter in kitchen), so bring sleeves for cool morning or evening weather. It is not a sleek, shiny home...more of a comfortable, homey feeling like a "Grandparent's house". Great for kids as is right across the street from the beach.
We received an early, unsolicited, check in which was very nice. Our issue was that everything wasn't quite in order, possibly as a result. After a phone call and two emails, the issues were quickly resolved.
Paris L. Jul 2017
The location of this home was great. Beach access is across the street. The house is rustic to be sure, so if you are expecting a very modern/updated home setting, this is probably not the place for you. The kitchen had a robust selection of tools., cooking utensils, and spices. The beds are a bit utilitarian but they do the trick. Overall a fun stay.

This is right on the cove.
Megan C. Feb 2017
We had a wonderful weekend here. It was a dream. The location is beautiful and the views of the ocean are so marvelous. You are right on the beach! There are so many details in this house that make it funky, kitschy-special - even the toilet seats!!
Patrick D. Nov 2016
This old 60's style house is funky and fun right on the beach! Bring everyone as it sleeps 16! You can cook, relax, play pool, sit in the hot tub, hit Sunny Cove on the surf board or ride East Cliff Drive on the beach cruiser bike! Build a fire and watch the sunset, sit on the front porch swing, sip wine and listen to the ocean waves crash in your ears. It's perfect for retreats, family reunions or work getaways.
Lilynaz H. Oct 2016
The house was a great location for a group of friends to come stay in Santa Cruz! There was a hot tub, outdoor covered barbecue and plenty of bedrooms! It was a great trip! However, the neighbors that are nearby are very sensitive to noise and so I wouldn't recommend staying here if you plan on being noisy outside of the house / hot tub past the hour of 10 pm! For our trip it wasn't a problem and we had a great time!

Broken microwave
Broken dishwasher - it would run (rinse) for 5 minutes and stop. All plates and silverware needed to be washed before using, most likely they were rinsed only and the grease on them was not noticed
Wood frames of cots in the closet were broken.- mattresses could be used on the floor.
Lampshade in front bed room was balanced on light, but broken
Front porch swing has center brace pulled off boards, so very dangerous
Grill was dirty on arrival, with no brush to clean it (one was supplied the next day)
No lighters for gas grill/table pit upon arrival (one was supplied the next day)
Shower head holder in back bathroom was broken
My sister's bare feet were black on the bottom (and she hadn't gone outside)
Toddler smears on large front windows
Outside Windows very dirty

Called in for repairs Friday morning. No repairs or replacements done for our stay through Sunday. Grill brush and lighter were provided on Friday.

Loved the location, love the "era" of the house, loved the friendly people in the neighborhood.
Manager response:
This home has a new Property Manager that has been working on several items at this home. The microwave has been replaced, the dishwasher has been fixed, and the owner is taking care of all other complaints found in this review. Thank you!

We stayed here during the first weekend of August '16 and had a wonderful time. The house had plenty of sleeping spaces and lots of amenities (boogie board, wet suit, BBQ grill-propane, washer/dryer, etc.). It was a great stay!
John S. Jul 2016
Great old beach house. Lot's of room, pool table, beach stuff, fire table, super location!
Andria N. Jun 2016
This is a great house in an absolutely perfect location. It advertises that it sleeps 16, but it really just sleeps 10 with enough couches for additional people (couches are not pull-out and not the most comfortable). It is old, the propane tanks were empty so we couldn't use the grill or fire-pit (I feel for as much as it cost per night, the propane should be filled), the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen were pretty old and didn't work well. Also, there is no place for a large group to sit for eating meals. And, there were no beach towels (but not sure if that is something we should provide, but we were travelling from Texas and only had so much room). The house had everything we needed as far as bath towels, linens, kitchen utensils, beach stuff (chairs, toys, etc.). The laundry facilities were nice as well. The view in the living room is amazing and we even saw whales and dolphins, and the beach was really nice and so close. The location was really great for morning/evening walks as well. Also, there is quite a bit of parking. Not sure I would stay here with a group larger than 10 unless you're young and don't care about sleeping on couches with decorative pillows for your pillow.
Manager response:
We apologize for the inconveniences and confusions experienced by this guest. The grill for this home is directly hooked up to a gas line at the house so there is no need for propane tanks; there are instructions in the home on how to use this feature for guests that are unfamiliar with it. The pool table in the home can double as a dining table if guests choose to have it set up that way - we are happy to assist with this if guests need it. The extra sleeping spaces in this home can be found in the closets where guests can pull out extra cots and futons, and there is even a waterbed for use in an extra room by the garage.
Amol K. Jun 2016
The house locations is perfect but this is a really old house. Additionally, linens were not clean rather were dusty. Furniture is really old..felt like bought from thrift store. Utensils were not clean and we have wash it again to use.
There are some good positives of property like Jacuzzi, Pool table but house needs serious repairs
Manager response:
We are sorry to see that cleanliness was lacking and will be sure to get it addressed.
Jerry K. Apr 2016
The stay was very pleasant, and we had everything we needed.
Neva R. Mar 2016
Had a blast close enough to everywhere without the traffic the most beautiful scene
James A. Mar 2016
This house was perfect for our group getaway. The kitchen is big and there are four ovens! Do bring your own baking pans as there aren't many. The hot tub got hot, the views were grand, and we had a delightful stay!
Susan V. Mar 2016
We truly loved the location! Even though we stayed during a weekend of a storm, it was breathtaking. We loved waking up each morning to the fresh ocean smells and a cup of coffee. If you're looking for an updated home, this is not the home for you! The price is too high for not having been updated, but it is a great home to entertain in! The beds need new mattresses and the couches and furnishings are old. They leave a musty, old smell, yuck!. The pool table was fantastic!

Steven S. Nov 2015
The location was incredible - beautiful views of Sunny Cove and the Monterey Bay, easy access to Santa Cruz and Aptos, and quiet street. That being said, we might not be willing to stay here again as the house was in need of a deep cleaning and a refresh of the kitchen utensils and cooking tools with many missing or partially ineffective.
Manager response:
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are sorry to see that the home was not as clean as it should have been. The Property Manager will work with housekeeping on meeting our standards and will work on restocking the kitchen supplies. We are delighted to see that you enjoyed the location and view!
Patrick D. Nov 2015
Our women's group stayed here for the weekend and they loved it. Don't underestimate the beach in the fall. It was November and warm during the day and chilly at night. It was perfect. The off season is just as enjoyable. Especially that hot tub.
Gary W. Sep 2015
a beautiful location.
Sandra S. Jun 2015
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience in the Sunny Cove retreat. What a great location, the nice beach next door is a huge plus. The boardwalk is 10 minutes away, and the ocean view is worth the price. Loved it expect us to return.
Manager response:
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to send us this feedback. We are so pleased to know that you loved this property and we look forward to you visiting us again!
