Top floor ocean front condo with sweeping ocean views, lanai, partial A/C

Located on the top floor of Island Sands, the tallest complex in Maalaea, this condo will offer you incredible views of the ocean, Molokini, Kaho'olawe, and whales when they are visiting. You'll love coming home and watching sunsets from here as the AC units keep you cool, the WiFi keeps you in touch with the world, and the pool keeps you refreshed.

What's nearby:
You are within walking distance of Maalaea Harbor and shops. In the harbor, try heading out on a whale watching cruise with Pacific Whale Foundation, a snorkeling adventure with Trilogy, or a sunset cruise on the Ali'i Nui. If the kids are with you, spend a day at the Maui Ocean center which has Honu, a new humpback whale experience, and lots of interactive exhibits. Take advantage of the restaurants there such as Seascape or Beach Bum's. When you venture out, head south about 7 miles into Kihei town for local beaches such as Charley Young, amazing fish tacos at Coconut's, and the shopping at the Shops of Wailea. Great location, we were able to watch the whales from the balcony. Condo was very clean with everything we needed for a full week stay.

The Condo was absolutely wonderful. The views were just breath taking. We will definitely be renting again!

We had a wonderful stay in this oceanfront 2 bedroom unit. Many hours spent watching the whales and turtle from the Lanai. Unit was furnished very nice and very clean. Maalaea is so centrally located.

Great amenities, well stocked kitchen, nice pool and bbq area, the closest beach is decent and 5 min walk...but renter beware - this is a very windy part of the island and this top floor unit was like a wind tunnel during several of the particularly windy winter days we stayed. So windy that it interrupted our sleep and knocked a picture off the wall when we opened the door. And not helped by the fact that signs said not to use the A/C, so windows/porch doors needed to be open to cool the unit. There aren't many walkable restaurants, which was fine for us as we like to be away from the crowds and cook ourselves. Access was great to Kahuli, Kihei and Lahaina areas due to the centralized location in Ma'alaea, but I think we would have felt more relaxed if we'd instead picked one of these areas given the nonstop wind.
Manager response:
Thank you for your feedback, Donna! We hope that overall you enjoyed your stay. While Maalaea is a windy part of the island, this condo does offer both a window A/C unit, and ceiling fans to cool off. We would love to host you again- at one of our other locations of your preference!

Would NOT recommend staying here! No AC! It's a tropical climate and no AC?! Also the unit has not been updated in decades... Literally looks like it's from 1985. Dishwasher leaked, fans broke, bugs everywhere....
Manager response:
We are sorry to read you were so disappointed with your stay. There is a window unit in the living room, and all the ceiling and standing fans in the home work with this unit to cool the home. Bugs do appear from time to time, but it helps if guests keep food covered and put away. We hope to have another chance to impress you in the future.

We appreciated the beach setup (chairs, boards, sand toys... etc) - great breeze in the evening. Wonderful having washer and dryer for evening use. Meals on the balcony were beautiful!

The condo was nice although the bedding could use some updating the shower squeaked the whole time while in it as if it were going to drop through the floor the dishwasher did not work but the real problem was that the air conditioning unit flooded out water all over the balcony the whole time so we were unable to go outside and enjoy it I won’t be coming back
Manager response:
Hi, Rachel! Thank you for staying with us! The shower is squeaking, but everything is stable and secure. The dishwasher is functioning though we are waiting for a part to come replace one that was melted due to misuse. The air conditioner leak has been fixed. We hope to see you again!

Location and the view

This is a decent 2 bedroom with a good view of Ma'alaea Bay. It is a quiet area, not much in the way of shopping or nightlife. The Maui Ocean Centre, the harbour (for snorkeling tours etc) and a few restaurants are within walking distance.

This is our second year staying in the area. We like the central location which makes it easier to drive to Kapulua or Wailea or Paia or Hana or Haleakala or OGG. If you plan on doing a lot of exploration, this is the best spot, in our opinion. One of these days, we have to come in high season to watch whales in the Bay from the lanai.

The unit appears to have been updated and everything is still in good shape. The photos are accurate. The kitchen is well equipped. There seems to be an over supply of glasses for drinking and a good variety of spices for cooking. Mattresses are comfortable. Two bathrooms, but only one hairdryer. There are two beach chairs, two boogie boards, but no beach umbrella. We bought one from Costco and left it for the next time. Wifi works and the single flatscreen is large with both cable and streaming (once you figure out the remotes). The single window AC in the living room is noisy and fairly useless unless you sit beside it. Its only prupose is so the unit can be advertised with AC. But having stayed in Maalaea last year, we turned off the AC and just relied on the trade winds. With the windows open and the ceiling fans, we were comfortable even though temps were more than 30°C.

The pool and BBQ area is nice and clean and not busy in June. The grounds are neatly kept. There are turltles in the surf. The resident manager John is a very friendly.

The view from the balcony was beautiful! I wish that was my balcony.
