Modern lakeside cottage w/ a dock & dog-friendly attitude!

Until July 15, 2020, Vermont properties can only accept bookings from Vermont residents, those who have met the 14-day quarantine requirement, or those engaged in essential or other authorized work in Vermont. Experience quaint lakeside living in this three-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bathroom, pet-friendly Lake Champlain vacation rental with a huge yard, a fishing dock, and more than enough space for up to eight lucky guests and a well-behaved dog! Located on 150 feet of picturesque shoreline on South Hero Island in Keeler's Bay, this lake house is perfect for a relaxing weekend or an extended stay spent communing with nature on both land and water. Bring your poles and tackle, then head down to the home's very own dock to cast for over 80 species of fish that live in the cold waters of Lake Champlain (please note that there are no guarantees that the dock will be available to use, as the water level changes seasonally). This authentic Vermont lakeside camp is a rustic house with an updated interior featuring exposed wooden beams, custom furnishings, and large picture windows. During colder days, sit in the living room's rocking chair to read a book from the home's small library, or gather your group to snuggle together on the comfy couch while watching a DVD movie on the flatscreen television. You'll find plenty of space to spread out, relax, and enjoy picturesque lakeside views in this room.

Adjacent to the living room is a well-stocked kitchen with everything necessary to whip up a great meal, along with ample counter space to lay out ingredients. Plus, modern appliances - a microwave, a stove, and an oven - make meal preparation and cleanup easy. When the food is ready, sit at the nearby dining table, which will accommodate up to eight hungry people. Just outside, there's also a waterfront deck with a table for dining al fresco on hot summer days. Retire home at the end of a full day of lakeside activities to get restful sleep in any of the home's three bedrooms, which will accommodate up to eight. Sleeping options include a queen-size bed in one room, a set of twin bunk beds in another, and another set of twin bunks in the third room. Each room is simplistically furnished with reading lamps, minimal decor, and picture windows. These rooms have a zen-like quality in their simplicity and will no doubt be places of deep, restorative slumber. Book this pet-friendly Vermont vacation cottage today and start planning your relaxing New England getaway!

What's nearby:
Extending over 20 feet into the lake, the dock is great place to land a trophy fish. You may decide to have your adventures on land - that's fine, too! The area offers myriad activities from wine-tasting at Snow Farm Vineyard & Winery (just three and a half miles southwest) to apple-picking at Hackett's Orchard (two miles south), and scenic drives on country roads for beautiful fall foliage viewing September through November. South Hero has many great dining options, but you could also head over to the mainland and catch a Long Trail Ale or a Magic Hat #9 beer in Burlington, which is just 20 miles southeast and home to music venues, boutique shops, and eclectic restaurants - including over 10 breweries. Also of note is the abundance of great hiking trails and pristine lakeside woodlands in the area. Go five miles north or the same distance southeast to find Grand Isle State Park and Sand Bar State Park, respectively; both areas offer beautiful features such as sandy beaches, dense maple and oak forests, and scenic trails.

Location & house made for an enjoyable stay. Upon arrival a few issues were encountered: wireless net , screen pulling away from porch door & shower facility not well lit or ventilated. A few days into stay the shower handle fell off. Vacassa addressed internet and shower fixture in a timely manner. Pros: Views, grill , bedding & towels clean & fresh, A/C (only used 2 times) but worked well to remove humidity. Cons: waterfront not really swimmable due to rocks, weeds. Access to waterfront dangerous. Smaller couch could use replacing. Full bath needs light for shower & better exhaust fan. Refrigerator too small for weeks stay especially when drinking water needs to be brought. Should also advise/leave instructions for when services scheduled, lawn mowing, garbage pickup and where, emergency #s , etc
Manager response:
Hi Judith, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are glad you an enjoyable stay with us! We appreciate you letting us know there is room for improvement regarding some of the amenities in the home. We will take them into consideration for future guests. We hope to have another chance to impress you in the future!

The location of this home was right on the water. It had a spacious deck where you could look out over the water and see beautiful sunsets. There was plenty of sleeping room and the kitchen was well stocked. The living room also had plenty of seating space to look out over the water. The steps to the upstairs were rather steep and the railing wasn’t really safe for small children or older small dogs. The ad also said it had cable TV and we could not find the connection. There was a remote for Roku but we dont think it was set up yet. We ended out watching tv on my ipad. Other than that it was a beautiful location and would be a fun place to stay with other adult friends.

Our family had a wonderful time at Gone Fishing. There were plenty necessities provided for our 2 night stay and everything we needed for utensils to cook for ourself the entire time. The kids and dogs enjoyed the lake and the dock. Location was rural but close enough to stores if needed. Plenty of bed space and linens provided and the cabin was just beautiful! Thank you!!

Cute and great location. The house was very clean, with beautiful views from the deck and beautiful surroundings. It had everything that we needed. The screens on some windows were not completely sealed or had wholes/gaps, which allowed insects to come in. This was a nuisance, since we could not have those windows open for airflow.

Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay! The sunsets were beautiful and the place was equipped with just about everything we needed.

The only thing I wished we were more aware of is that even though there is water access, it is not a good spot for swimming. Very weedy and mucky on the bottom. This is not anything the owners can control, but should be noted, I think. Also, the neighbor is very close--a shared driveway and we could hear their music, etc. Hard to tell by pics how close it is! Finally, you have a sofa bed listed--there are two sofas which I suppose people could sleep on, but neither folded out into a bed. This was fine for the number of people we had planned for, but as the upstairs bedrooms were very small and a little stuffy in the heat, one of our daughters wanted to sleep downstairs but the sofa didn't fold out like we thought it would based on the description.

But, as I said, the home was otherwise very lovely--clean and functional and lots of board games and yard games and a wonderful view.
Manager response:
Thanks, Samuel! The sofa bed did need some repairs that are now finished. We hope to see you again!

Spent three nights with the grandchildren and Boston Terrier and loved every minute of it. Cozy and comfortable accommodations, easy internet access, peaceful sunsets, nice neighbors, responsive local representative when questions arose. We would do it again.

Loved the dock and deck, Kitchen was well stocked and good linens were provided. With 90+ degree days, the A/C was wonderful to have. We were thrilled that it was dog-friendly, and the dog was thrilled with the beach
Kim C. Jul 2018
Beware...the house needs updating. It does have a window unit downstairs. There are no window coverings and the house is like an oven in the afternoon. The deck is nice, and there is a gas grill. If there is a future trip to Vermont, we will look elsewhere
Manager response:
We are sorry to see this guest was disappointed with their rustic, lakeside experience.

We spent Memorial day weekend here while my niece and her friend ran the Vermont City Marathon. It was the perfect distance from the city, peaceful and serene. The sunsets on the lake were incredible. The kitchen was stocked with tons of dishes, pots and pans. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

loved the house and ease to lake.

My four year old niece has decided this is her "favorite hotel." The dock was nice and relaxing. The views from the deck at sunset were unparalleled. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend away. I would highly recommend Gone Fishing (and have already). A word of caution, though, that the very young, the very old, and the spatially unaware (such as myself) should watch their steps. The house has a couple of spots where there are unexpected steps or where one step is taller than the ones around it. I managed to stub my toes on all of them. Just be cautious and enjoy your stay!

The view on the lake Champlain and the home was super. Nous avons passer une super belle semaine .

This is an older house with a really neat history. The lake water system takes some getting used to, but it's easy to manage. If you have very small children, this could be a challenging location. It's clean and if you cook, there is basically anything you need.

We stayed there as guests to a wedding taking place at the nearby Grand Isle Lake House. Well worth our visit. The home was perfect for our family - the kids LOVED the bunk rooms - we loved the open plan. We also enjoyed seeing the few photographs on the wall of how the home was lovingly built by its owners, an engraved chair of where one of the owners' family was proposed to by another... added a certain magic to the house.

everything you need is there, a quiet area, South Hero resident are probably the nicest people I have ever met. All the bedrooms are up stairs , so be aware of that. The house is clean, a very nice place to stay, and you can bring you dog! As soon as I know my vacation dates for next year. I will probably be reserving again!

The fact that the wall facing Keeler Bay is entirely windows makes this cute house a pleasure to relax in any time of day. You are always looking out at a lovely view. And you can always move out onto the deck for direct contact with the natural setting!.

The house is comfortable, imaginative/efficient use of space. The upstairs maximizes space and sleeps 7 comfortably and has a sleep sofa in living room for another person. We loved the location and our dog loved jumping off the dock and going for a swim! It's an easy drive to get to Burlington. The local property management contact is very responsive should you have an issue. Would definitely rent again.

If you want to escape for a long weekend and have a lake in the backyard, this is a nice place to do it in. The bedrooms are very small so can be claustrophobic after awhile. Also the furnishings need updating. But we came for the lake and the view and we were happy with that.
Leah T. Jul 2016
The kitchen had wonderful cookware and an over abundance of plates, cups, ect. for a number of guests to stay!
Gregory L. Jul 2016
Great place for a family with kids over 5/6. Loved the location. Loved the layout. Awesome grill! I would not bring toddlers. Steep stairs and no ballasts on railings. I would stay again for longer with my own canoe.
Rachael B. Aug 2015
Adorable vacation spot right on the water! The house was cozy, yet spacious enough for our 8 person party to enjoy a relaxing week on Lake Champlain. We would definitely stay here again!
