We stayed a weekend in Tahoe and never went further than the grocery store 4 miles away. Great restaurants close by. Nice beach area across the street. Comfortable home with everything you need. Will definitely be back!

This place is amazing! There are many updated features to the home from the current photos posted. It was extremely clean. There are plenty of kitchen things to be able to cook. The house is big enough to have individual spaces. The kids room was awesome!
The home is conveniently located within walking distance to a 7-11 and a delicious restaurant! It’s not a far drive to a couple of beaches.
We will definitely be back to visit this place!

Great house for large group, very comfortable. Only 4 cars allowed to park at the house though, this was not explained prior to purchase. I am rating with only 4 stars due to location on busy highway.

This house was ideal for all of the families we had staying here this weekend! The kids room was perfect with the bunk beds and all the games. Although I recommend bringing an air hockey puck and Foosball so that you can play those games. The traffic was not noisy at all, but I do agree that it is unsafe if your dog/child is one to run out into the street. Nice location, close to 7-11 and Safeway (go to the Safeway in Tahoe City, not Kings Beach- the people in Kings Beach are pretty rude). You can walk across the street and rent Kayaks, Canoes, SUP, etc. The beach across the street is rocky so bring water shoes for your little ones!

Overall, awesome location. We love coming back to Carnelian Bay every year.

Lovely location.

I took my family to the Shaffer house to celebrate my 65th birthday. Every family had their own bedroom and full bathroom with an extra full bath on the first level. Five in all. The bunk room was awesome for the kids. There was plenty to do to keep everyone busy and plenty of room. The house is located walking distance to restaurants, beach area and quick pick ups at the 711. The highway is busy and can be noisy but easy to cross to the beach. With a few minor repairs, new couch and replace broken screens, I would definitely go back to the Shaffer house.

My family of 11 loved staying here last weekend. We all slept very comfortably although I ended up sleeping on couch as I didn't prefer to bunk with the kids on the twin sizes (couch was very comfortable). We enjoyed being across from the lake and didn't mind the noise of North Lake Blvd. Two minute walk to the beach and if you want to get a famous Woody from Garwoods. Lots of nearby hiking and amenities, attractions.

The back area is a nice view of green forest but there is no privacy and no fencing to keep the dog or animals safe. Everything was very clean and well kept and the kitchen had everything we needed except the food processor was not working. The best part is that every room gets their own full bathroom which was great -- just be weary not to all shower around same time and get left in the cold.

I appreciated all the games and DVDS that were included. Wifi worked great. Plenty of parking. Overall it was an amazing stay and we were more than cozy. We especially liked the open floor plan of the bottom floor and big kitchen. I have a strong feeling we will be back to stay here again.

Thanks for all your help Vacasa, very professional!

A very good property which is very close to 7-Eleven and CB's Pizza Grill. Easy to reserve and the quality of furnishings were good.

We booked this house for a weekend getaway for a group of 3 families including 6 children. Having chosen this particular house primarily on the basis of the amenities available for the kids, we were extremely disappointed to find that neither the air hockey table nor the foosball table were in working condition. Some of the exterior doors do not lock - of particular concern is the sliding door to the balcony from one of the bedrooms. This room is set up as the "kids" room, as it has 3 sets of bunkbeds and the (non-working) air hockey and foosball tables. One of the children in the group has a history of sleepwalking so was unable to sleep in the room with the others, due to the safety concerns with the unlocked sliding door.

If wifi is important to you, be aware that those members of our group with iPhones were unable to connect to the wifi. It worked fine with the Android phones.

On the positive side, the house is spacious and clean, with plenty of bathrooms and more than enough kitchen equipment for our needs. We enjoyed our stay but would likely have chosen a different house had we known in advance that the promised amenities would not be delivered.
Manager response:
We are sorry to see that some of the entertainment features were out of order. The WiFi and Roku have been fixed, the sliding door lock has been fixed, and the Property Manager is working on the air hockey and foosball tables.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Shaffer's Tahoe House. Our kids and their kids (6 adults and 4 kids) had a great time the first week in June. Although the road can get a bit busy and noisy, it really didn't bother us. The location was perfect for enjoying the quieter side of Lake Tahoe. Well stocked kitchen with new appliances, large dinning areas and living room, comfortable beds, plenty of towels and a ton of dvd's and movies/tv shows (Roku) to choose from. Loved having 5 bathrooms! Wifi worked great (after we rebooted the modem).
Phoebe L. Jun 2016
The house especially the rooms are large and comfortable. I wish they have fence in the backyard so the dogs can go out and play without leash.
Anne M. Apr 2016
There is a small beach across the street nice for short walks with the dog. Southshore casinos is a lovely 40 - 45 minute drive, and a Safeway grocery store is a convenient 5 minute drive. We noticed a couple pizzerias close by and also some fine dining choices, but did not visit them this trip. It rained most of the weekend, so we turned on the charming gas stove in the family room and watched movies, caught up on reading and cooked some wonderful meals - very relaxing weekend. One suggestion is since we paid a little extra so we could bring our dog (well worth it) I suggest having some sort of "doggie package" - nothing fancy, maybe a small treat or pamphlets suggesting places that are dog-friendly or things to do with your dog, or nearby kennel/day care options for pets, and food/water bowls for pets if someone forgot to bring theirs.

We had a wonderful time at the Shaffers House! It was much bigger than I imagined and I liked how there were 4 bathrooms. We didn't have to wait around to use the facilities.

We had 3 families with two kids each ranging from 11 to 17. We loved the floorplan and size of the cabin. The location was not ideal as it is right on the main road and often loud with traffic and early morning snowplows; however, it IS directly across from the lake so..... The air-hockey and Foosball were two big reasons we selected the place for the kids and we were disappointed neither worked. However, the big room with 6 bunk beds was a huge hit for the kids regardless of the games not working. Overall good stay but probably won't go back.

You've got to try this house, it's spacious and centrally located.

This is in a great location right in between kings beach and tahoe city. Very close to the lake and activitIes. Very close to squaw and north star.

The property is perfect for 10-12 people. And the game room is a lot of fun. A few things I would suggest:
* An extra queen bed in the property would be ideal if three families visiting.
* House keepers should take out thrash from previous guests

Overall great experience and we had a lot of fun
Manager response:
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your suggestions and will advise the owner of such. We will also speak with housekeeping about making sure the home is properly prepared for our guests. We hope to see you again and want to thank you for choosing Vacasa!

Good - game room/bunk room has T.V. with retro Nintendo game sets with great classic games, foosball (but take your own ball - can't find one anywhere in Tahoe if it's missing!), and air hockey. Nice entertainment center downstairs. Lots of bathrooms and lots of room! "Cabiny" feel with lots of bear/moose/wooden boat art. Convenient to King's Beach Tahoe Dave's and NorthStar for skiing.
Bad - right on busy Lakeside Drive (road noise is noticeable from bedrooms and your dog will get run over if he gets out), all bedrooms are upstairs and may not be optimal for toddlers or elderly folks, no regular T.V. service (no antenna or cable) but Vudu, Hulu, Netflix, and lots of DVDs are available, not deep-cleaned and maintained the very best but really was fine for us. Wifi worked for 90% of the devices about 90% of the time (just saying, it wasn't 100% hassle-free).
Debbie D. Feb 2016
Great cabin. Only downside is that it was on the main road so you can hear the traffic at night. Other than that, everything was great.
Peyton M. Jan 2016
Our families were very happy with the house, it was a wonderful, cozy retreat and perfect for our mix of adults and young kids. The house was clean and in great condition. The vacasa team was very responsive and solved the issues previously posted. We would definitely stay here again.

Hello
and Happy New Year to you
Just wanted to give you an update on our stay, before I post a review on VRBO
Positives:
- Nice house, not as beautiful as it appears on the picture (everything looks a lot newer and brighter on the pictures)
- Plenty of space for all. Games for the kids (air hokey and Foosball) is a big plus
- Plenty of dishes and silverware. Great stock of glasses.
- We were not able to open a lockbox and I called the agency. Got a very quick respond and we were given other options to get in to the house

Negatives:
I have no idea what your cleaning crew was doing, but not much, considering the state we found the house in
- the linens were not changed in at least 5 beds. The one in the Master bedroom had bunch of black hair and BOOGERS on the sheets! So we started our vacation from doing laundry
- Second floor was not vacuumed, nor dusted.
- there was no toilet papers in the bathrooms, nor paper towels. Not even "to get you started" as you claim
- Simple toiletries - shampoo, conditioner & soap were not provided
- Cable was not working
- Internet was not working. We are all in IT specialist and even we could not fix the issues. At best, we could have one device on the wireless and that one device was lagging badly.
- coffee grinder, french press, espresso machine, waffle iron was nowhere to be found.

Looks like we are not the only one who had the same concerns, based on the latest review.
I hope you will fix the issue, so other people will enjoy their stay more than we did
Manager response:
Thank you for your response. We apologize that the cleaning, supplies, and amenities were not functional or up to our standards. We will work on making sure that does not happen again in the future. Thank you for choosing Vacasa!

Our family (parents, sisters/spouses/kids) totaled 11 and it was a great place to stay. The location was great, the house was in excellent condition and felt like a mountain retreat- nicely decorated with a bear/country feel throughout!
I would totally stay there again.

Great house....bad location! Too much road noise for us but we were moved to this property after an issue with another property so we didn't have a choice. Plenty of room for just the 4 of us. Really is a great house, just needs to be off the main drag of Carnelian Bay.
Melissa B. Sep 2015
This place was simply amazing. There was 13 of us and we all enjoyed spending our vacation here. I would definitely recommend it to a big group eho want to spend they're weekend in North Lake tahoe. The lake was literally 5 minutes walk from the cabin. A lot of fun activities like jet skiing, boating, kayaking 10 minutes away that we went to. Overall very good and I will definitely rent again! Thank you so much!!!
