Cozy, dog-friendly Maine cottage with spacious deck and nearby beaches!

If you crave the salty-sweet smell of a sea breeze blowing in from the coast while enjoying breakfast on a screened-in porch, or a vacation spent cracking into succulent Maine lobster with buddies outside on the deck, then this charming three-bedroom York vacation rental will surely satisfy your getaway needs! It's even dog-friendly!

Located just a quick mile and a half away from the vast and scenic Long Sands Beach, a stay in this cozy three-bedroom abode means everyday can be a beach day! Because of its prime location from both the shore and the eclectic shops in downtown Short Sands, vacationers will never run out of things to do and places to explore.

This lovely home features vaulted ceilings over a combined living and dining room, giving it a spacious feel that's perfect for small gatherings. The knotty pine paneling throughout the house imbues each space with a rosy warmth that is instantly welcoming. Free WiFi and cable, along with TVs in nearly every room, ensure guests enjoy modern amenities and the ability to stay connected despite spending away.

The main entrance to this property is accessible through the cozy screened in porch, where guests are invited to unwind by six patio chairs overlooking the front yard and street.

Once inside, you'll find the fully equipped kitchen, complete with a fridge, stove, oven, and dishwasher, as well as plenty of cookware to accommodate any traveling chefs in the group. The bright and cheery kitchen also doubles as an informal dining space with a simple table and six chairs.

The more formal dining table, complete with six more chairs, perches in front of the stone fireplace, made from stones acquired from the surrounding area and meticulously constructed by the owner's family in the 1970s. Nearby, two couches surround the TV and a very Maine-chic lobster trap coffee table provides a place for guests to retire from the sand and surf. The communal nature of this space is perfect for gathering the whole gang together and is most effectively enjoyed when filled with good conversation and laughter.

Easy vacation living is epitomized with a cocktail or glass of wine on the deck while burgers and hot dogs sizzle to perfection on the grill in the background. The wrap-around deck is complete with a propane grill, a table and umbrella, and five deck chairs for lounging. Shaded by the surrounding trees for privacy, this deck was made for lazy afternoons that melt into peaceful nights under the umbra of the starry Maine sky.

When those starry nights draw to a close, retire to the main level master bedroom, containing a queen size bed and a TV on top of the dresser. The roomy full bathroom with a shower and tub is just down the hallway, as well as access to the basement, where the washer and dryer are located. There are also two adult bikes stored in the basement, perfect for touring the charming and bike-friendly town of York, in addition to four beach chairs, and a pop-up tent for portable shade on exceptionally sunny beach days.

Up the stairs on the second level await several more sleeping options, as well as a loft overlooking the living area. The second bathroom, small but equipped with a standalone shower, is located at the top of the stairs.

There's a clean and cozy second bedroom with two twin beds and a third bedroom with a full bed to accommodate sleepy beach-goers. All three bedrooms boast window unit AC, TVs, and the warm glow of knotty pine. This home can host up to six guests, making it an ideal rental not only for families, but for friends planning a group getaway.

This property is relaxed and charming both inside and out. You'll have an excess of table and seating space, as well as books and board games inside and the lawn space outside provides a place for kids and dogs to play before dinner. It's also perfect for a friendly game of bocce ball or other popular lawn games. If you do bring up to two dogs, there's just an additional nightly fee.

When staying in York, it's essential to spend a day at both Long and Short Sands beaches in town. The downtown area of Short Sands hosts York's Wild Kingdom, as well as a strip of shops and restaurants that both kids and adults will enjoy perusing.

Barely two miles away from this cozy cottage sits the noble Nubble Lighthouse, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the state. Radiant and stalwart, the Nubble has been casting its warmth on the surrounding community since 1879. Outlet shopping awaits about nine miles south in Kittery, and a surplus of beautiful beaches, sensational seafood, and funky gift shops can be found a few miles up the coast in Ogunquit (eight miles) and Wells (11 miles).

A day trip to explore the uber hip dining, shopping, and art scene in Portland is an easy 47 miles away.

When only the motion of the ocean can cure your mainland blues, David's Hideaway, conveniently located a little over a mile away from two pristine family-friendly beaches, provides a cozy and accommodating home base to get your sea breeze and saltwater fix. Plan a stay at this Maine vacation rental for sunny, sandy, fun-filled memories with your family and friends! We loved the peacefulness of the wooded area of the home, and yet a walk to the beach! Loved the vintage feel of the home.
Meagan T. Jul 2020
We were able to enjoy many home cooked meals on the spacious back porch, we used the tv and the couches each night, there was plenty of space for 6 and only 1 mile from the beach!

Clean and tidy. Rooms were a little small.
Manager response:
We are sorry that you found the rooms to be a little small, but hope you enjoyed your stay with us!

Very pleasant and cozy house! We enjoyed our stay at David's Hideaway.

Liked the place. Didn’t give it 5 stars cause it was a little too far from the beach.

We were a family of 2-6 people during the 5 night stay, loved the arrangement of 2 bedrooms upstairs with a shower for the kids to use and nice bedroom and full bath on the first floor for us. We had our dog with us and she enjoyed her own area with a pet gate. Cozy and cheerful, very clean, roomy with the screened inn porch and lovely deck. Loved the location, a short walk to either short sands or long sands and air conditioning inn every bedroom. We lucked out with the weather but would not have even minded if it rained as it was cozy in the living area and could have watched movies or read books if needed. Will definitely rent again.

A 3 minute drive to the beach- we day tripped and we loved the comfort, spaciousness and coziness and yes the quiet of this cottage. Neighbors were very friendly and welcoming. The cottage was quite clean with all the amenities of being at home. The porch deck made late nights star gazing and relaxing so much fun. One suggestion is that the TV remotes were difficult to navigate ( it could have been us) clearer directions please. So many sight seeing trips, restaurants, coffee shops, and grocery store all within 10 minutes of the cottage. Most excellent home if you have children and pets. We slept in every day ( which we NEVER do) just what we needed. Hope to return next year for an even longer stay.

This property is very nice, in a quiet neighborhood, surrounded by big trees. While there obviously was some maintenance going on (by notice of the big dumpster out front), it actually made it easier to find the house upon subsequent returns during our stay.
The house itself is cozy, albeit a little outdated. However, all the amenities worked, and we were able to fix a few meals there with the array of pot/pans/utensils. Unfortunately for us, it rained and was cold most of the time we were there (in May), so we weren't able to go outside much, other than to run to the car and back. But it looked like a nice quiet area to go for a walk!
The master bed was especially comfortable, and although there was just 2 of use and we didn't use the upstairs at all, I feel like all the beds were the same.
The unfinished basement houses the washer/dryer which we utilized a couple of times.
The Wifi was exceptional, as my husband and some work to attend to during our stay, and was able to utilize the internet service.
I would definitely recommend this place.

Very nice house with camp feel. Plenty of room...exceptional yard and deck! We loved it!

I was disappointed with this booking especially for the price, this place looked great in the pics. After all the fees it cost us about $550/night. The $200 cleaning fee was insane especially after arriving. The place is outdated and dark. The smell from the damp and moldy basement fills the cottage with a very musty smell. Other then that we had what we needed to stay and we were allowed to bring our dog which is a huge bonus for us but unfortunately I would not stay at this place again.
Manager response:
We are very sorry about the musty smell occurring due to the extremely humid summer we've been experiencing. We do have a dehumidifier in the home to help with this, and there is no mold in the home, though we would have been happy to inspect the basement had the guest notified us. The owner has been steadily making improvements to this home and will continue to do so. Thank you!
Mary D. Aug 2018
Quiet, and lots of amenities to make us feel at home and comfortable. Could use more lamps as it is a tad dark.
Todd B. Jul 2018
Great space with room for a family and more. The back deck felt private, the tables were big and the beds we're comfy. So close to the beach while still feeling like a private retreate. Will rent again.

Quiet, cozy place
Heidi W. Jun 2018
We ate meals out on the shaded deck and napped in the hammock. The beach chairs, sand toys and yard games were enjoyed by us all. The kitchen was well equipped. The only thing we needed was a big pot to cook lobster, which we found at Walmart a 20 minute drive away. It was such a convenience having a clothes washer, dryer and dishwasher. The house was clean and well equipped with towels and extra sheets and there were fans in each bedroom. We definitely hope to return again next summer! Thank you for the hospitality.

After a 14 hour drive the house was clean, spacious and welcoming. With four adults and two teenagers, we had plenty of sleeping, sitting, eating and cooking room. Everything needed was supplied, we just made a quick trip to WalMart, which was close and we were set for the week. The cottage is close to the beach, restaurants and many things to do. York Beach is beautiful and there is a small strip of shops and restaurants. One of the best vacations we have taken.

This place was fabulous. We were there for Mother’s Day weekend 2018. It is a VERY clean , homey and spacious place. The kitchen cabinets were stocked with pots, pans, cups, plates, the list goes on. The enclosed porch would be great for 3 seasons of use. The back deck is perfect for your morning coffee. This home is situated in a wonderful neighborhood off the beaten path. We were thrilled to have found this gem and be able to bring our yellow lab along was the icing on the cake. Kudos to the owners for having everything as it was. Thank you. We will be back <3

After a rigorous adventure in the White mountains, Red fin was a great place to relax and recover. It certainly reminds you how homes were when we grew up- cozy, charming and clean. Be sure to visit the Goldenrod!
Debbie L. Aug 2017
Nice-sized cape in a wooded setting with a beautiful deck and screened in porch. The interior is dark and a bit outdated but it provides everything necessary for a pleasant stay. The house was very clean and basic amenities were supplied. Very close to the beach and to restaurants and shopping. We would definitely stay there again!
Andrea M. Jul 2017
Loved this house! It was clean, spacious and had everything we needed in a home away from home. Close to Long Sands Beach and central to York Beach area (Short Sands) and York Village. Peacefully set back in the quiet woods, but less than a mile from Long Sands, we felt we got every vacation experience. Do keep in mind you aren't beachside here, but it is less than a mile away and definitely walkable. Also there are bikes provided. For us that was fine because we didn't plan to run back and forth to beach all day. The upside is that it feels, quieter, safer and more homey.
Becky M. Jul 2017
We had six adults and one dog and we were all able to comfortably sleep in the cabin. Be forewarned that the ceilings upstairs are a little low (we have several tall gents in the family!), so if you have tall guests, they will want to watch their heads. The cabin has a very comfortable screened in front porch, and a gorgeous back deck with a gas grill. If you're planning a trip to the beach, be sure to bring your own beach towels, but you can use the beach chairs and beach toys in the basement! Every amenity is provided. We had a very, very relaxing and comfortable stay, and can't recommend this enough!
Paul L. Jul 2017
Suited our purposes. Residential neighborhood. Bedrooms are a little tight and had to use fans for air circulation when it was warm & humid. Well equipped and short drives to beaches and attractions.
Carol C. May 2017
This location was great. It was close enough to the beach so that we could go there in less than 5 minutes but far enough so that traffic wouldn't effect us. And lastly the couch was very comfy while we played the Wii!
John C. Oct 2016
The location was pretty much close to everything we were interested in. However the house is very dark (only 2 bulbs working in the entire living room area which had 2 lamps and a 5+ bulb track lighting overhead). The house was very clean and although the bedrooms were tiny the beds were very comfortable. Just a short ride to Long Sands Beach & Nubble Lighthouse. No fence in yard if you bring a pet and a wandering neighborhood dog was on the property daily going to the bathroom! She seemed friendly but we didn't want to risk it with our dog off his leash we brought.
Manager response:
We apologize that this home was so dark; an electrician has been out to replace the burnt bulbs in the track lighting. Thanks!
Marsha D. Sep 2016
The house is quite comfortable, the yard and deck particularly enjoyable for folks with a pet and the location peaceful, pleasant and not too far from multiple points of interest. Our stay was short but sweet. Our young adult children who live in Boston are now lobbying us to rent the cottage for a month next summer, so they can pop up on the weekends.
Dorothy G. Sep 2016
Every thing within a 10 mile or less drive.
Bring quaternary for parking
Rebecca T. Sep 2016
Wonderful spot - mile from the ocean and close to surrounding food etc. Love the back porch. Nice cool House with fans. House is a little close to the road to let pups run lose but we brought long leashes
Douglas E. Sep 2016
The property met our needs and communication was timely. The house has a warm feel with ample supply of plates and utensils.
Marcia B. Aug 2016
Our favorite spot for vacationing with our grandkids. So many dining options to choose from: the large deck with picnic table, the long dining room table and the kitchen dining area. Grandkids, age 8, 5, 4, enjoyed playing in the yard making Fairy Gardens in the stone wall. Our teen son enjoyed being close to the beach and using the bikes and boogie board from the basement. House was PERFECT!
Paula C. Aug 2016
Our family enjoyed our week-long stay in this cottage, located in a quiet, residential area, and centrally located to several York area beaches and not far from the Kittery outlets and Kennebunkport.
Tom V. Jul 2016
Had a great week, thank you
Joanne M. May 2016
I would recommend this place over any hotel. We were able to celebrate our daughter's graduation in comfort.
Patricia C. Aug 2015
I thought it was a pleasant little home and we were quite comfortable. Close enough to the beach area and nearby towns but peaceful and private enough.
we enjoyed eating on the deck.
