Oceanview studio with fireplace, full kitchen - walk to town/beach!
Book a romantic retreat for two or even a solo getaway at this lovely Elk vacation rental! You'll enjoy stunning ocean views, WiFi, a full kitchen, gas fireplace, and more while you explore this sleepy coastal town.
This studio-style unit is located upstairs from a garage workshop on the property of a larger coastal home (where the owners live) , and has it's own entrance and private space. The property is right by a path that leads to the small village of Elk, so you can easily walk to Queenie's Roadhouse Cafe for lunch or down to the beach. And for more city amenities, Mendocino is just a scenic 17-mile drive to the north.
Inside this comfortable, newly remodeled space, you'll be treated to slanted ceilings, hardwood floors, and a light and bright space, complete with a queen-size bed. Up to two can easily be accommodated at Vista la Playa. This rental also includes one bathroom with a shower.
After an afternoon beachcombing in Elk or gallery browsing in Mendocino, come back and relax, watching some cable TV or a DVD on the Blu-ray player. You'll also have WiFi so you can stay in touch and post photos from your Northern California Coast adventure.
You'll find the kitchen fully stocked with everything you need for meals, including a breakfast bar for seating. Whip up a clam chowder while a winter storm makes the waves crash outside. There is no dishwasher but you can always let the pots and pans soak while you take in the views or watch a movie.
In nice weather, head to the yard for a lazy afternoon with a book or take the path into the village and peruse the Greenwood Museum & Visitor Center. There are great views from the bluff as well as the beach. In the mood for some pampering on your vacation? You can even book a massage at the Elk Cove Inn and Spa right in town.
Scenic and peaceful Elk is well-situated for day trips to Fort Bragg and Mendocino to the north and Gualala and other small towns along the Sonoma Coast to the south. And at the end of the day, come back to your cute and cozy studio for a home-cooked meal.
Get away from the hustle and bustle with a stay at this Northern California Coast vacation rental!

I have been on a three week trip through CA? And this studio was my favorite stay. Perfect spot.
Beautiful, clean setting, with a view of the ocean. Highly recommend.
If you're looking for a very quiet get away from it spot, this is a great property. It had just about everything you could ask for in a studio and was well equipped (with a great view of the ocean from the picture window in the Living Rm space). Private, quiet and exceptionally well looked after. If we're in the area again, we'd definitely go back.
Vista de la Playa was perfect for us...clean, warm & cozy, with a beautiful view, very quiet & private. It had everything we needed and wanted, and are excited about coming back again, and again!
The view! The well appointed cosy space. The thoughtfulness put into the details of the space!
The property is well-maintained and beautiful. The views are gorgeous and picturesque. Every detail in the apartment is well thought-out and covers all your needs. The inside of the apartment is beautifully made and the amenities are equal to a luxury hotel. I completely loved my time there. The town of Elk is a surprisingly lovely little tourist stop, and exactly what you'd hope for a perfect, Northern California beach town. Not a bad view within miles. I highly recommend it.
Wonderful little place and most of all, personal. My wife and I live in Kelseyville, Ca. or to say, Clearlake, Ca. We have a beautiful view of our natural lake, but my wife loves the ocean. This place, like or home is the home away from home but with access to a beach and a view that is most excellent. I have returned 3 times and that I can say speaks for itself. Do not expect great access to amenities, but if you like quiet, there it is!
Cute and cozy little apartment - perfect for for a weekend romantic getaway. Quaint little town, everything within walking distance from the rental - beach, restaurants and a little grocery store. Well worth the drive...
We loved the sea air, the peaceful setting is healing for the soul.
Thank you for sharing your home with us. We will be returning to vista de la playa.
Nice clean room. Cozy fire and great kitchen if you don’t want to go out for every meal.
It was very clean, relaxing !
My suggestions would be to shorten the legs on the bar stools, because the seats are to high making the table unusable for eating. There is no leg room and you have to hunch over to eat. Also, a full length mirror would be appreciated. A comfortble chair for viewing tv at the end of the day would be helpful too. The futon is not comfortable to sit on. Overall, though we enjoyed our stay very much and it is a beautiful location, property.
Just as pictured and just what we needed. After a hectic wedding, we needed a quiet Oceanside view, our leftover wines, and a beach stroll. And a TV with silly movies to relax with. Thank you!
Cottage is small, cozy and very sweet. Has everything you need for a getaway. Clean, comfortable bed and full kitchen. Lovely view of the ocean. Elk is rather isolated but a nice spot to explore surrounding beaches for a few days.
You will be absolutely delighted with your stay at Vista de la Playa. From the amazing views to the clean comfortable accommodation, this property in Elk is wonderful. Walk to the beach, the cute country store, and the famous diner. To better enjoy the area we suggest to book an extra night or two.
The Property is very good and has the most amazing view from one window of the room and also from the garden area.
Please bring spices for cooking and sugger for coffee.
The property is well kept and very clean and quite private.
There are a few places to eat close by but they close early and if your like my wife and i, we like a snack around 9pm and everything closes around 8 (latest).
You can walk half a mile and then take a curve and bumpy walk down to the beach which is amazing (but cold).
In all my only complain is that there was no direct beach access other than that it was a great place to stay.
We enjoyed our stay in this studio. The grounds were very nice with a great view. We loved the studio. It was clean and comfortable. They even had the type of coffee I use! That was a nice surprise. We had brought ground coffee because in the photo it showed a coffee pot but when we got there it was a kerug . When we ran out of the supply they left we found the other maker so we used that too.:). Everything was wonderful! Glad we brought some food as there is limited places to eat but that was ok, we liked the quiet.
We found this place by pure accident on live. The price was right and your photos of the studio were good. It is cozy and quiet.
I took my wife away for her birthday. She loves the coast and this peaceful retreat provided a great location to explore north and south along the coast.
Awesome, quiet and peaceful great view
Quiet and beautiful views.
The property and views from this property were incredibly stunning. Very close to the ocean with great views. The furnishings were very nice and modern. The town was cute and quaint ( I highly recommend eating at Bridget Dolan's Pub great food and customer service.)
Also the studio was very clean.
The only problem was the air ventilation was poor and there was a lack of air flow due to that everytime I entered the front door I was hit with a moldy smell. There is one big viewing window facing the ocean but it does not open, there is another window over the bed but again it's a viewing window that does not open. Out of the three windows in the room only one opens over the kitchen sink.
There is a small window in the bathroom that opens but that is a seperate room so it doesn't contribute to the air flow outside of the bathroom. With that said, it got very hot in the studio both nights while I was sleeping even with the window open. There is a cieling fan that helped a bit but I was still hot.
Nice place, clean and recently renovated. Small, but has all the amenities of a home, minus a dishwasher/laundry. Great for a few day stay, but would not recommend for extended stay where laundry/dishes may be necessary. Elk was a cute little town with little to offer, but it's a great place to get away from it all. Fort bragg is just up PCH about 24 miles if you want more city-like offerings. Would be great if there was a hot tub usable by guests, even if the cost was a little higher.
Accident I found this place. Absolutely wonderful. Walk to the beach, the little town and wonderful atmosphere. 4 days we spent. Like home at Clearlake except by the sea. Would we stay again, absolutely. I truly hope that those that come after us enjoy it as much as we did. Best for two people only and well worth it.:)
We were in a hurry to book lodging in the area, since our trip was a last minute decision. So we were fortunate to find this place, it's about 13 miles South of Mendocino along Hwy 1. The rental is an upstairs studio unit, very clean, well kept, appears to be fairly new, and has all the amenities you'll need for a comfortable stay. And It's in a great location overlooking an awesome ocean view through a large window facing the water. Cell phone coverage was practically non-existent (we use Verizon) and the Wi-Fi internet was slow and kept disconnecting and reconnecting at times, but this was not a major inconvenience for us since we didn't spend much time in the unit. When I made the reservation there was a $144 charge for "Fees" for which there was no further explanation (maybe a cleaning fee? don't know, but it wasn't tax, that was listed separately). But as I mentioned this was a last minute trip and we were in a hurry to book lodging so I just accepted it. Nevertheless we would consider staying here again - because it's a great place in a beautiful location - but then again the $144 fee might cause me to hesitate.
Beautiful view, charming small town. Perfect for a weekend where you want to get away from it all.
We loved staying in Elk. It was close enough to the bigger areas (Mendocino, Ft. Bragg, etc.) but far enough away so we felt removed from the touristy stuff. Elk is a tiny little town but the people are very friendly and the scenery is surreal. The apartment was outstanding, small but perfect for 2-3 people and it had everything we could have needed or wanted. Oh and the view out that window is incredible!
This was a great place to stay! The views were wonderful and the nearby beach was a treat. Highly recommended.
My wife and I enjoyed going to Gaulala to Fort Bragg. The owners of the studio were very friendly, an the studio was very nice with all the necessities of home. Very friendly little town of Elk.
The new studio is in a quiet neighborhood walking distance to the beach and the quaint town of Elk. Behind a home, it is the top story of a detached cottage with an unoccupied first floor. One window looks to a peekaboo view of the ocean. The others look out to a field or the property. It is very clean with smooth flooring, a faux fireplace, flat screen TV, quality linens on a comfortable bed, and a nice kitchen complete with dishes, pots, pans, utensils and towels. We brought our own fixings for breakfast, lunch and snacks, so we only needed to eat out for dinner. The walk-in closed was helpful to keep our luggage out of view. Note that it is on a second story so make sure you are okay with a flight of stairs. It has a freshly painted finished attic with dormers and wood beams, so be careful when you walk near the walls. I didn't notice that but my husband commented on it. Overall it was super clean, comfortable and quiet detached studio cottage.
We really enjoyed our stay in Elk. The convertible was comfortable for our 7 year old and the queen was wonderful. The owner has provided very nice linens and housewares. The view is as good as advertised too. In 4 days we were able to visit Hendy Woods SP, an old-growth redwood forest, paddle both the Albion and Big River estuaries, hike coastal bluffs and beaches, bike, and tour Mendocino. There's so much more to do too: the lighthouse at Pt.Arena, tidepools, etc.. it's really a wonderful place!
If you are looking for a quiet and slow pace. Stay here and visit the people who make Elk, CA a sweet spot !
We took a "spur-of-the-moment" chance to go up the coast from San Fran with the grand daughter. I had looked before at several places on the coast. Decided and arranged in a matter of minutes thru Vacasa and were there three hour's drive later.
Directions were easy and access was quick. The studio was in perfect order. The view of the ocean is spectacular! It was a short walk to either the beach or the charming little town of Elk. You can go down to the beach or walk along the cliff enjoying the vistas. Queenies restaurant is very pleasant both due the staff and the food. Just a very pleasant two day stay.
it is a perfect place for twos or three days. One can relax and easily explore the coast and the hinterland.
Beautiful spot, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Playa, I only wish we could have stayed longer... Diana & Karen
Great base to explore coast and wineries
Great place. Very relaxing, and an incredible view.
