Location, location...a short walk to beach over the dune. Pool is nice to cool off in. Never ran out of hot water, Needs bit more attention to cleanliness and maintenance.

The location is great, and we liked the layout of the house, but it needs some love. I know that most repairs / updating occurs off season, and visiting midway through the summer rental season means that there can be stuff that needs attention...but the blinds were torn, supply / return HVAC grilles were dirty and broken, the toilets smelled really bad, there was a big gash in the bottom of the pool lining, and the hot tub cover was completely trashed and not useable. On the flip side, there were nice large 2'x2' tiles in the main room, new laminated flooring in some rooms, etc. Spend a few thousand bucks on fixing some things this off season and this could be a 5-star house.
Manager response:
Hi, James! We are sorry the home did not meet your expectations. Thank you for sharing your feedback and for bringing some items to our attention that may need some TLC. A new hot tub cover has been ordered, the broken window blind on the bathroom was replaced and the homeowner will be replacing the drapes on the living room soon. We will work on addressing your other concerns and improving the home for future guests. We hope we can host you again for a much more enjoyable stay.

This is a much loved traditional Outer Banks cedar shingle home on the ocean front less than 300 feet from the actual ocean; nothing but a nice wide grassy dune in between the house and the water. It is well stocked with kitchen cooking equipment. The house was impeccably clean when we checked in. There are extra blankets and pillows in the closets if needed. The washer and dryer are conveniently located on the first level with the bedrooms. There are sufficient chairs provided on the decks. Be sure to bring your own chairs to take down to the sand. There is also a small outside shower on the pool deck with hot and cold water! In addition, there is truly a hot tub on the pool deck that you don’t see in the pictures describing the property. We were here the first week of June and we paid the extra fee to have the pool heated and we are glad we did! We used that pool multiple times a day. The pool maintenance guy also stopped by at least once that we know of during our stay to be sure that the pool was clean and the filter was working.
The realty company leaves starter rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom, a small roll of paper towels, a few tablets of dishwashing detergent, a few packets of laundry detergent and a small bottle of dish soap and a sponge. I recommend bringing a “scrubbing sponge“ to assist with cleanup if you plan to do much cooking in the kitchen , and we did. We cooked breakfast every day, lunch most days and supper about half the time.
The only grocery stores on the island are a small Food Lion about 12 miles down the road in Avon and a small local store, Conner‘s supermarket, further down the highway in Buxton. There is a small convenience type store called the Blue Whale that is on Highway 12 about half a mile from the house. They have a little bit of the necessities of life including a very decent wine selection. Fresh selection; the merchandise wasn’t all dusty like some small convenience store places can be.
Strongly recommend you arrive from home with paper supplies, laundry supplies and food for several days to cook. If you have little ones in diapers don’t forget supplies for those babies. Do not overpack clothing since they do have the washer and dryer. The linen service supplies two towels and a washcloth and hand towel per person for your stay. They are good quality towels; you can wash them daily if needed.
This is a nice quiet place for an excellent family vacation. There are some great restaurants on the island and you don’t have all the noise, traffic and huge crowds you have in upper Nags Head or Kitty Hawk or further south in Myrtle Beach. All the sales help in every store we went to and at every restaurant we stopped at was extremely cordial and friendly; there was only one indifferent person who was a cashier at a store down in Hatteras Landing. She was the sole exception.
We really enjoyed this area; it’s the first time we’ve ever stayed on Hatteras Island and we love the location and this house!!!

The view and close proximity of the ocean are spectacular. Sadly, the bulk of the house is in a need for attention situation. There are no beach chairs/toys but there is a usable hot tub (with a gross cover) and a stained but clean pool. The views are magnificent but the sliding doors onto the decks barely open. Deck chairs are cracked/broken. Lots of issues like these. I was honest in the review I sent to Vacasa and Hatteras Realty. I hope they make the effort to bring this house up to a more acceptable rental property.
Manager response:
Thank you for your review, Diana. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment. We would have been happy to assist with any questions or concerns if we had been notified during your time with us. We take guest feedback seriously, and have forwarded this information to the local staff so they can review and update the home as needed for future guests. We will be sure to follow up with the appropriate parties regarding your experience. We hope to have the opportunity to host you again soon!
