Overlooking Barons Creek, the wonderful Max Cottage for two boasts wide planked wood floors, tall ceilings, and repurposed antique barn accents throughout. Complete with a king-size bed, a kitchenette area, a spacious bathroom, and even a private hot tub, this Fredericksburg getaway is a slice of paradise in Texas Hill Country. A light, unhosted breakfast is included in your stay.

From this original Ransleben Blacksmith property, you'll be situated in the heart of Fredericksburg, just one block from the National Museum of the Pacific War. Main Street's galleries, bistros, and shops are also just a short walk from your door. Also of interest are this region's plentiful wineries - definitely worth a day or two of exploration.

When you aren't out sampling the local grapes or browsing historic sites, relax in your lovely studio cottage complete with a cozy gas fireplace, flatscreen TV with cable, and complimentary WiFi.

Spend time on the balcony enjoying the fresh Texas air while you gaze out at the creek or watch something on TV from the comfort of one of the leather chairs. At the end of the day, enjoy a soak in the relaxing hot tub.

You'll have a mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, and a sink for preparing and storing simple snacks. And at night, retreat to the lush king bed for a wonderful sleep! The Max Cottage welcomes up to two guests.

Outside, the property boasts wonderful landscaping and a meeting facility offers a catering kitchen for events. While you're not kicking back in your elegant room, you can stroll to attractions like craft breweries, restaurants, and museums.

Feeling adventurous? Lace up your hiking boots and explore the Enchanted Rock State Natural Area or Lyndon B. Johnson State Park - both are about an 18-mile drive away.

We stayed in "The Max" for two week-nights in late April. There were only 2 other guests at the property. The cottage was beautiful inside & out. The Max is the cottage on the left at the very back. It has a large balcony with a very private hot tub nestled in the corner. The property off the balcony has a GIANT Cypress tree & a large Oak tree with accent lighting in the branches. A negative is there is a "spot-light" on the Cypress tree that points right in on the balcony.... it shined right in on us at night. While sitting on the balcony during the day, we saw butterflies & even a glimpse of a deer peeking thru the tree line once. Baron's Creek is behind the trees, but we couldn't see or hear it. There is a water feature that runs thru the property & ends by the balconies between our cottage & the other cottage (The Carl) at the back...you could hear the waterfall there. It was very relaxing to hear.

Inside the cottage there is a gorgeous gas fireplace, the instructions on it were confusing tho as the switch on the wall didn't work, but you could turn it on by the toggle switch inside the fireplace, (but the instructions say not to do that). We told maintenance man about it, but nothing was done about it. There was a decent sized TV on the fireplace that worked great (it could have been a larger tv since it was so far from the bed). There is a ceiling fan (with a slider switch on the wall for fan speed). There are two leather chairs & a small table at the foot of the beautiful king bed. There is plenty of drawer space in the night stands & chest of drawers.

The entrance is in the the kitchenette area. A hammered copper sink, a Keurig coffee maker, a microwave & small fridge are available. They offer ground coffee & a generic coffee pod for the coffee maker. There were four cream cheese Danish's on glass dish on the counter (I couldn't eat them as I am Gluten Free, so that was wasted). There is sugar, salt & pepper, two containers of cereal & microwave popcorn in the cabinet. The fridge has coffee creamer, four small containers of milk. four bottles of water & four cans of orange juice inside, but plenty of room for your personal items. There are a few glasses, two coffee mugs, some plates in the cabinets & a few utensils are in the drawer. Dish soap, sponges, etc. are under the sink. There is a roll of paper towels & some nice hand soap at the sink.

The bathroom as two sinks (a hair dryer can be found in the drawer). There is a private water closet & a large single head shower. Also, a nice sized closet is in the bathroom. Inside it, there is an ironing board, iron, two nice bathrobes, two spa towels, extra bath towels & a few hangers. We only had one roll of toilet paper however... but there was some tissue in the water closet. The same hand soap (in the kitchenette) was available at the bathroom sinks, but only one tiny bar of bath soap for the shower. They offered a small bottle each of shampoo & conditioner (no lotion). We had plenty of towels (6), but only two hand towels & two wash cloths.

The king bed & it's bedding was comfy. There were six pillows (two king & four standard).

The AC worked great & the ceiling fan was a nice touch (once we figured out about the slider speed control on the wall switch!)

Overall, the cottage was GREAT. It was spotless & well maintained. We enjoyed our stay. We really didn't even want to leave the cottage to explore the surroundings! Although you could just walk out the front & you are one block from the shops on Main Street. Perfect location.
Manager response:
Hi, Lynn! Thank you for letting us know about your stay. The fireplaces are turned off when the weather is warmer, so the instructions will not work. The lights in the trees will be corrected. Thank you!

Great place to stay! Love that it’s downtown and you can walk to everything but it feels secluded.
Marisa M. Feb 2021
This cute cabin was private, but close enough to everything on Main Street we were able to walk everywhere. The fireplace and the hot tub made this the perfect romantic getaway!
Kristina M. Jan 2021
Right off main st. Can walk to everything!

Best place we have stayed in many many years!!!
Quiet , cozy, private, and SEXY!!!!
Book the room called the Max!!! It is GREAT!!!
Cheryl M. Dec 2020
Absolutely unexpected. What a beautifully private getaway with all the perks: private patio overlooking the creek, hot tub, gas fireplace, coffee, breakfast...the works. Slept with the fireplace on all night. They created the look and feel of a modern cabin and spared no expense. Will definitely be back. Bring a bottle wine and relax!!
Manager response:
Thank you for staying with us. We appreciate your feedback and hope to host you again soon.

This place was absolutely perfect for our romantic getaway & was exactly what we wanted! It was right on Main Street within walking distance to everything but also tucked away quietly with the trees, creek & deer! The room was clean & so cozy. We also enjoyed the private balcony & private jacuzzi so much. It was the perfect home away from home & my husband & I will definitely be returning!
Sharon C. Dec 2020
Everything was perfect!

This was such a perfect romantic getaway for two in Fredericksburg. I definitely recommend staying here! Vacasa staff was also very helpful and informative! Thanks Vacasa!

Overall, this was a very nice property with nice amenities and close to all the action. I would recommend this place to anyone. The one and only negative (like many of the other reviews) is the air conditioning. The A/C seems to be a bit underpowered for the place. Definitely bring a box fan or something to stay cool during the summer months. Otherwise, this was a great place and we will stay again.

Clean, private, great location!

Great location and setting

I booked this cabin as a place to stay for my girlfriend and I when I took her on a trip to Fredericksburg for her birthday. She LOVED IT!!! I (and she) highly recommend it. It's stand-alone so it's like having your own personal cabin all to yourself. The interior is beautifully rustic and VERY clean. It has a gas fireplace that turns on with the flip of a switch. It has a small kitchen area with plates, glasses, a sink, refrigerator, and the all important coffee pot. Each day we had two muffins that magically appeared waiting on us. It has two sinks in the bathroom and a HUGE shower with a built in bench. We didn't use the hot tub but it has one of those too. Oh, and there were two robes along with two large beach towels in the bathroom closet. We made good use of the robes, all adding to the comfort of our stay. Best of all, it's right on Main Street and we were mere minutes walk from all the shops and restaurants. It's pricey but you get what you pay for and in this case you definitely get a fantastic place to stay. We will book this place again in the future for sure!

What a lovely cottage. Perfect for the weekend wedding and very central to everything. The coffee cake was to die for!!
Martha N. Mar 2019
My husband and I had such a great stay that we stayed an extra night. The AC was out upon our arrival and all I had to do was make a phone call and they did everything they could to make our stay comfortable! Oh yeah and the breakfast danish's they left for every morning were fantastic!! The room was very clean, plenty of storage to unpack and relax. The pond/fountains were awesome also, we did miss the blue lights, but it was beautiful at any rate!
Darin Y. Mar 2019
Loved the nature set from the balcony. Privacy.
JoLynn D. Dec 2018
It is a great getaway. Rained most of the time we were there so we enjoyed relaxing by the fire.
Joe F. Jul 2018
Beautiful, luxurious cottage with a private balcony ... within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants on Main Street. A delicious light breakfast is even included. We won't stay anywhere else in town. Truly a Hidden Gem.
angela w. Jul 2018

So nice
Stephanie R. Apr 2018
We absolutely loved everything about this place. It was our 15th wedding anniversary and they had wine and strawberries with a cute little card waiting for us when we got there. The location was also perfect just a few steps away from all the shops. We will definitely be going back.
Steven B. Apr 2018
Me and my newly wedded wife stayed in the "Max" lodge for our honeymoon and it was amazing! The employees truly work with you and care about the guests. Its very conveniently located on main street for most of your in-town tourist needs. We had very beautiful personal experience during our stay and we will definately be staying here again.
Resa C. Mar 2018
Clean with beautiful views
Todd O. Mar 2018
Great stay!
David M. Jan 2018
The location is within easy walking distance for all shops and restaurants on Main. However, the design of the courtyard facing cabins coupled with the tranquil sound of the water feature, make you feel miles from anywhere!

The blacksmith quarters in Fredericksburg was the perfect place for a romantic getaway. I got engaged during my stay here and the cottage really made our weekend complete. Well worth the price and will definitely continue to stay here in the future.
Joe F. Nov 2017
Perfect location tucked away right in the middle of it all. Beautiful, private room with lovely, relaxing porch. Suggest the Carl Cottage ... It's Perfection.
Fowler C. Oct 2017
Good spot, needs attention though...
Elizabeth B. Aug 2017
Our little cottage was immaculate! Very clean and clearly very well taken care of. The design and decoration were perfect for a weekend getaway- looks just like the pictures. The fridge was stocked and there was a delicious coffee cake waiting for us when we got to the room. We had a lovely view of the creek (though it was dried up, the greenery was nice), and a private hot tub and patio.

The Blacksmiths Quarters are centrally located on Main Street, so you can walk most places, excluding the wineries. But to get to more distant locations (like Cabernet Grille) we had to wait a total of 1.5 hours for the cab rides there and back. This was our only problem with the trip and had nothing to do with the rental property-- I am just putting this in the review to educate people so they aren't making the same mistakes we did. Fredericksburg has no Uber or Lyft and the cab companies were sub par, which is pretty unfortnate considering that this is Texas's wine country... will probably have to draw straws next time to choose a designated driver in our group because the transportation in Fredericksburg is just so unreliable.
Fred D. Jul 2017
Definitely stay here. You won't regret it!
Janice B. Jul 2017
This was a most relaxing trip for these two school administrators! We were so totally welcomed, even as walk-ins w/o proper reaervations. Beautiful, clean, private and yet walking distance to all the fabulous downtown shops!!! We loved it!!!
Veronica M. Jun 2017
thank you so much from the bottom of my heart
Patti O. Jun 2017
I seriously want to build a new home and have our master bedroom look identical to this cabin! We enjoyed our stay immensely. 11 yr Anniversary!
Most of our anniversaries our spent in Fredericksburg and I couldn't be happier with this cabin! So happy I found Vacasa! Thank you!
Kenneth P. May 2017
We spent our first wedding anniversary here and it was magical!

Great Place!!
Lori V. Mar 2017
This is our second time staying here. We love it!!!
Clinton W. Feb 2017
Loved the location, walking distance to anything you need. Hottub was great.
Tedra H. Feb 2017
We really enjoyed being with in walking distance of all of the main shops and restaurants. The staff was extremely accommodating and I enjoyed the positive vibe I received from the ladies in the front office. Lisa went above and beyond to make sure our stay was an wonderful experience.
Sharon S. Jan 2017
We stayed at the 'Max' and it was just perfect for us. Between the wonderful coffee cake they left for us to the secluded hot tub and fireplace that took the chill out of the air - it was a wonderful place for us to spend our first night married together! The back porch was gorgeous as we were able to sit there late at night listening to the pools waterfall while looking at the canyon with large trees in the misty fog. All amenities were included as well as all entertainment options too. Fredricksburg offers wineries, restaurants and all home and apparel shopping to museums and enchanted rock - there's plenty to do when you're not relaxing and enjoying the B&B. I'll go back in a minute!
Brenda B. Jan 2017

Highly recommend staying in the Max Cottage. Great room with a private balcony. We could hear the water fall flowing and was very relaxing. Room was stocked with a scrumptious coffee cake, juice, milk, coffee, and cereals. If your looking for a romantic couples stay then this is the place. Fireplace in room, private hot tub on balcony and huge shower.

The Blacksmith's Quarters is a beautiful property! We will return in the future!
