This place was the perfect size for our family of four. We had a great time and immediately felt at home. While not directly on the rocky bluffs, the property provided views and sounds of the ocean and privacy from neighbors. Having premium cable channels as well as access to the Sea Ranch Rec Centers were big plus too. The overall property was in need of some maintenance however. The outside grounds were overgrown with knee- high tall grasses making it really hard to walk around the back and sides of the house to access the grill and side deck for example. This was a little misleading given the pictures online show short, manicured ,almost lawnlike grass. We actually brought sporting equipment thinking we could run around out there. In the front was a little fenced garden area that was also overgrown with weeds. Overall though, this is a great place with everything you would need for a relaxing family getaway.!
We are glad to see your family had a relaxing time here! The landscaping has been addressed; we apologize for the delay due to the busy summer. We hope to see you again!
My family and I enjoyed our stay. It was wonderful waking up to the nature around.
one of the most beautiful place during our travel. fantastic house with amazing view and quiet place. the nature at this place is majestic.
Nice location within easy walking distance to bluff trail, can slightly hear ocean waves, wood walls and ceilings inside for relaxing rustic feel we wanted instead of normal house sheet rock, good amenities including TV every room and kitchen equipment, didn't hear Highway 1 at all, was clean though dated ("charm"), good size at 2 bedrooms with a queen loft with skylight. Fireplace had sign not to use which was disappointing, had some little ants which is probably common if you're from California, cabinet doors and house/room doors, shower door squeaked loudly but I took care of that with WD-40. Recommend this house. Very comfortable, relaxing, satisfying.
The location is quite special, tucked back at the edge of a meadow with a lovely view of the ocean from the living and kitchen areas. It is well furnished and the bed was quite comfortable.
We have been to the Black Point Cove several times each year.
It is a great place to relax, take walks, or just watch the ocean waves from our dinning room table. And the sunsets can be great.
Great view. Close to shore trails.
There is so much to love about this house and a few constructive critiques to share. First, the location is ideal -- not too close to the bluff to impair privacy, but certainly close enough to walk. We loved that the home has personality owing to the interests of the owner (Gary Wilson) -- we've stayed at other Sea Ranch homes that suffer under the hand of overpaid and noncreative interior decorators. The kitchen is unbelievably well-equipped for cooking -- it could even be edited down a bit -- and making pizza, bread, ice cream, etc. We didn't get ambitious in that way, but it was a change from other houses that are pathetically equipped. Decent pots and pans, eclectic and plentiful dishware. NOTE: bring your own sharp kitchen knife AND a salad spinner. The showers have crazy strong water pressure. We liked that there were enough towels deployed even though there were only two of us. There's a great deck on which to sit and watch the ocean, horizon, folks taking walks on the bluff, wild turkeys and quail coming by to visit (DON'T FEED THE TURKEYS!) The house was pretty clean (my standards are quite high, hence the "pretty," like you don't want to drop anything behind the headboard in the main bedroom), the washer and dryer were first-rate.
Why this isn't a five-star home: the couches swallow you so much that they're not very comfortable to sit or lounge on. The lighting, despite SO MANY LAMPS, could use some tweaking -- we never found a way to turn the ceiling fixture on in the kitchen, so doing food prep in the (awesome) center island butcher block was tricky at night. Only one bedroom has a clothes dresser, which is important if you're staying more than a couple of days; the upstairs bedroom has an impressive skylight BUT it's so filmy and dirty, you're not going to want to keep the shade open. And if you want to hang clothes in any of the closets, be prepared to be confronted with a mess of extra blankets and pillows that look like they've just been ditched there. Lastly, the house could use a bit of an upgrade when it comes to extra blanket layers -- I pulled one out to use, it was dirty so I washed it. Only when I was folding it did I realize it had a couple of slices in it and the whole thing was falling apart.
All in all, of the four homes we've already stayed in at Sea Ranch, we'd pick this one to return to. There's something about the "hand" of the owner and the care that he has for his home that draws us, in addition to the house itself. (Some renters may prefer a foofier house, with mid-century modern tchotchkes and furniture, but not us!)
ONE OTHER NOTE: If you forget to lock the patio door, even if it's shut fully, THE RACCOONS WILL FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET IN. They're kinda impressive -- and they will eat only your expensive snacks and chocolate and dried pasta, and leave the rest.
The local manager has scheduled a deep clean for the home and will clean out the closets and discard those items not necessary for the guest. New blankets will be ordered. The kitchen light issue is being addressed immediately and the owner will be contacted about the couch. Thank you.
Loved the view & accomodations
The house,view,weather,ocean,beach all great!
We had such a great time at Sea Ranch and especially loved this unit. Very, very cozy and well-stocked. I would kill to have that great of water pressure at my own home! Great deck and patio furniture. We enjoyed sitting outside after a jammed-packed day of adventures and discussing all the fun things we did. We saw quail, turkeys, deer, rabbits, and even the resident gray fox who was especially adorable! All this from either the deck or when we were inside the house! The bluff trail was amazing with beautiful, colorful wildflowers. We loved seeing the seals sleeping on the rocks. We would love to stay again!
The house was very comfortable but the views and walks were magnificent.
We’ve stayed at Black Point Cove many times over the years. It’s comfortable for a family but it’s showing it’s age.
Great view and a warm fireplace!!
We had a nice stay here. We really liked the proximity to the recreation center, which we were able to use. Really nice fireplace, and deck. The cabin needs a little bit of updating and the kitchen needs some attention. Overall, we found it very pleasant and cozy and really enjoyed that it was dog friendly as well.
Black Point is nice but definitely could use updating.. The the views were wonderful.
Lovely cabin like atmosphere in this South End Sea Ranch home. Good view of ocean from dining room, and outside deck. All three bedrooms have queen sized comfortable beds. Love that it is a dog friendly home! My small long haird chihuahuas felt right at home.
We enjoyed our visit and found no complaint regarding the home/amenities.
If you bring your dog, keep it in the short grass as tics are bountiful. We will return.
Some of our comments are above. The site is fine but the kitchen in particular is difficult to work in, aside from the fact that the oven did not work. The house is obviously old and in need of upgrading.
Great location! Quiet and Comfortable house with great views. Well appointed with gently used furnishings.
If you are looking for luxury or perfection, not your spot. Perfect for just kicking back and relaxing. We loved it.
Cozy place to stay with a great fireplace.
Will stay again.
If you're looking for a sleek, elegant house with spectacular views, this isn't it. Fortunately, we weren't!. It's an old home, fairly small, comfortably furnished. It has an open blue water view across the meadow- you can hear, but not see, the breakers. What we did see, and love, were many birds, including a family of quail, cotton tail rabbits, and deer. A lovely, serene spot to unwind on the deck, enjoy a glass of wine, and watch the quiet wonders of nature. For me, that's the perfect Sea Ranch experience.
This is a unique home in a beautiful setting. Very private. Although this is not fancy and needs updating, it is very comfortable. We were there a week. Kitchen well stocked with every possible utensil you will need. Even spices. Just bring food. Washer and dryer. The owner has very interesting wide array of books and games. TV has tons of stations and good reception. Deck is perfect for watching the sunset with a glass of wine. Dogs okay.
The house is nicely located, the price was very reasonable, there is plenty to do.
Very much enjoyed our stay. The home was comfortable with an unobstructed meadow view of the ocean.
Only complaint possible would be getting there. Beautiful location. The home was very comfortable and had a great view. If I could get over the trip to and from this location, would be a yearly stay for sure.
Our vacation rental was well stocked, beautiful view and located close to Redwoods which was our primary purpose for vacationing in the north coast.
We loved this house. It seemed to embody everything the original developers of this area had in mind. The house is beautifully situated and very up close with all the flora & fauna of it's surroundings. We were blessed with some clear nights and I was blown away by the stars. The owner obviously has a passion for maintaining the historic and natural feel of the place which we appreciated. Plus, he must be a great cook because the kitchen is the best stocked kitchen of any vacation rental I've ever stayed in. Thanks for sharing, Mr. Wilson! We love your place!
the area is so quiet and peaceful. you can hang out at the house all day or go for long walks along the bluffs. Great place for dogs. If you like to cook this place had everything you could need in terms of pot/pans/utensils , etc.
Good view. Nice size living room and kitchen. Downstairs bedrooms nice. Lights inside need updating. Window covering in upstairs room needs improvement. Lot was peaceful. 3 queen beds was nice for adults.
Nice location, beautiful house, very good location. To access the beach we need to walk around half a mile, but it is worth the walk.
Spent 2 lovely nights at the house. It is comfortable, convenience, quiet, with lovely views. Hope to come back soon!
Our family had such a sweet time in this house. We love to cook and the kitchen had everything we needed. We spent the mornings drinking our coffee on the deck and getting some sunshine. We loved our ocean view. Our eldest enjoyed lounging in the loft bedroom while our 6 year old son enjoyed running through the grass with our dog, Mr. Brown.
The large dinning table was perfect for sharing meals, playing cards and working on puzzles while watching the sunset. Once it cooled down, we took advantage of the the large stone fireplace as well.
Two of the highlights were the family of deer that visited the grassy area each evening and the beautiful walk through the trees to Black Point beach.
We loved this house and the surrounding area. We will definitely be back.
Casual and lovely home, lots of cooking supplies but a little bit dated, construction nearby right now, very convenient to the bluff trail, lodge, beautiful nature. It has a lovely porch and 3 great private rooms perfect for 3 couples or a group of friends or family. Spectacular views from porch, main room, and especially from one bedroom. Awesome huge fireplace.
Despite the outdated furniture and all, the location cannot be better, the distribution of the place makes sense and, specially if the weather is nice, you are not going to spent much time in there anyway. Nice deck with views.
It rained the whole time but we were able to get out and and hike along the bluffs and to the beaches during the calmer parts of the day. The benefit was that the waterfalls were raging and everything really green. This house if very comfortable and easily fit our family of 6. The kitchen has every appliance imaginable: bread maker, ice cream maker, coffee grinder, food processor. There were even pans and a grill to cook over the fire. Bring kindling as the wood takes a bit to catch. There are plenty of adventures in the area. We'll definitely be back.
It took us a while to figure out all the myriad of light switches and electric baseboard heaters. No instructions anywhere. House needs to be remodeled, especially the kitchen and bathrooms. Was very cold especially upstairs. Carbon monoxide detector was beeping in the middle of the night. Fireplace is great but hard to start - no kindling. Beds are very comfortable, and lots of (old) utensils and appliances in the kitchen. The owner switched to low wattage LED lighting, so it's like being in a cave at night.
We were very happy with our stay at vacasa. Very nice, very cozy, home.
Nice spot on Black Point Cove to relax, enjoy the beautiful views and a warm, cozy fire
The history of this area is amazing. The home is full of historical information. Incredible fireplace with plenty of wood.
House is large and family, dog friendly, house not really updated, the style would appeal to someone who was happy with a more old fashioned home, lots of antiques , old appliances, etc. Beds are fine, bathrooms adequate, showers need updating .
The house needs work and upgrades, but it's not my house, and I was only renting, so who am I to criticize? My family and I spent most of our time outdoors, diving, playing in the tide pools, going on night walks (bring a flashlight) and gazing at stars (our stay was during the Perseid Meteor Shower). We used the house to sleep and shower, and that was sufficient for our needs. It's a good house for the price and location.
We chose Black Point Cove for its promise of beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We were looking for a retreat after a very hectic traveling period coming from Nigeria, stopping in Paris heading to Houston, San Francisco then to Hong Kong before coming back to San Francisco. A much needed break was desired.
After traveling through the very scenic Northern California coast line it was really welcoming to arrive in a very clean well appointed house. We were a party of 4 and the rooms were all comfortable. An excellent kitchen where we prepared good food. The exciting trails in the sea ranch provided fantastic walks with breathtaking scenery and beach frolics.
Sea ranch delivered big time on its promise. A really good time was had by all.
Our stay was perfect. The kitchen has every appliance and gadget that you can think of. The house is very comfortable and we couldn't leave without first planning our next stay. This is our home away from home.
This home at Sea Ranch was the perfect spot for our July 4th weekend vacation.
Nice location, very quiet. Great for our two dogs. Morning coffee on the deck was perfect.
This property has a very nice view of the ocean and the sounds of the sea can be heard from the house. Very well equipped kitchen area. We enjoyed our stay and would return to Black Point Cove.
We had an amazing time at Sea Ranch and we will definitely come back in the future!!!
