Really enjoyed our stay.
William J. Nov 2018
Loved this home. Except for the two doors that did not lock. I believed we left it as clean as we arrived, plus washing the sheets and towels.
Jennifer S. Sep 2018
The house was beautiful and they provided so many things that we didn’t expect!!!
Norma H. Sep 2018
Great views of the ocean; very nice living area and kitchen; loved the garden and path up the sea stack.

It was perfect! We had a great time!

The Gewing House is a delightful place in a wonderful location. Sea Ranch is filled with houses nestled into the landscape. The whole property seemed very well-maintained. The house is great for six people, with the bedrooms and two bathrooms downstairs and the living room, dining area and kitchen upstairs, along with a third bathroom. The upstairs area has great views of the ocean and is very cozy and comfortable for cooking, eating (except for the backless benches in the dining room which are not very comfortable), sitting, reading and talking. The space is both open and cozy at the same time. The owners very helpfully provided a telescope and binoculars for viewing the ocean and landscape in front of the house. The kitchen is exceptionally well stocked and excellent for cooking all kinds of meals. The coastal walk which runs through the community for I think 8 miles is truly extraordinary--fabulous views of the ocean and rocks, as well as secluded beaches to visit along the way and seal observation points.

We had a wonderful stay here - 4 days, 3 nights. It was stormy and beautiful outside. Once we got the fire going, the house was cozy and nearly perfect.
PROS:
-Truly amazing views
-Cozy and comfortable feel throughout the house
-Fun yard for kids
-Plenty of hot water for showers
-Well equipped kitchen

CONS:
-FIREPLACE: No kindling provided, only large logs, and the fireplace is the main heating source for the house. We managed to get a fire going, after a couple hours, thanks to the grocery bags we had with us. It was raining so we couldn't go out and collect kindling. We bought kindling on day 2 and ended up leaving about 1/2 the bag for the next guest.
-THERMOSTAT WALL HEATERS: did not work well at all but did start to warm up after about 24hrs. Heat from these never rose above 62.
-TOWELS: Only bath towels are provided. If you want towels for the hot tub or rec center swimming pools, bring your own or use your bath towels.
-Master bedroom mattress is not comfortable and could use an upgrade. We kept rolling into the middle and woke up a lot to rearrange.
-Hot tub (right off master) was noisy all night and we couldn't figure out how to turn it off or at least get the jets to turn off permanently.
Manager response:
We are sorry to read this guest had any difficulties. We do mention in the digital binder provided to our guests that they will need to provide their own kindling or fire starters. We apologize if this came as a surprise. We also apologize if the hot tub was too loud. This is the first time we have had a complaint of this nature, and we will be sure to keep it in mind.

This was my second stay at the Gewing House. Like the first time, it was also a fantastic experience!
The house was extremely clean, the Vacasa staff was very pleasant and the hot tub was perfect!
There's some great cliffside hiking a short walk away and the Sea Ranch Lodge and swimming pools are also within walking distance.
Truly a magical place!

I noticed that the exteriors of the homes in that area are master planned to be gray and plain as to not detract from the natural setting. Do not be deceived from the exterior as the interior is very beautiful with lots of wood. Nice decorations. TV is on the small side but that's okay because it's nature that you will want to enjoy there. The trail to the area overlooking the beach is a close walk from the house. Tidepool area here. I don't think one is able to get down to the beach easily from here. Protected seal area to the right of the house facing the ocean. Certainly enjoyed this very quiet and serene area.
Chason M. Nov 2017
Excellent spot with a full kitchen, great view, and hot tub!
Craig S. Nov 2017
Nice Sea Ranch location, close to walking paths and Gualala for shopping. Lot's of blue water views, very quiet, and well stocked. Thank you!
Deanna S. Sep 2017
This house is well equipped, especially the kitchen. The beds are comfortable, the WIFI is great, the library is inspiring, and will taunt you, so pick your book on the first day so you have time to finish it. This house needs a deep clean in a few areas. Be sure to park your car free of the trees as the sap will coat your car. It's a quality home and comfortable!

An great property with an amazing house. The whole family really enjoyed this house. Great dinning and living area with amazing views. Would love to stay at this house again.
Jennifer C. Sep 2017
Nice house. Clean. Great location for walking along the coastside trail. Hot tub worked. Good kitchen.

Good layout - our family could spread out and have our own space.

I was impressed with the Vicasa rental company. Very helpful. House came sufficiently stocked with TP, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, coffee filters, and a fresh kitchen sponge. You don't find that in a lot of rentals.

My only complaint is that they do not recycle at this house. Please get a blue bin.
Peter C. Aug 2017
Very relaxing, great area. Sea Ranch is an exceptional place. The Gewing House had everything we expected and more.
Lianne M. Jul 2017
We adore this house and its location. Thank you for sharing it, and we can't wait to come back.
Frances W. Jul 2017
My friends and I, two couples and two single people, rented this home for a few days and thoroughly enjoyed it. The kitchen and living area is spacious and open. It was a delight to have 2 balconies overlooking the ocean upstairs and to have the whole home filled with natural light. The hot tub was a huge bonus and all the beds were comfy with extra blankets and pillows being a nice touch. The neighborhood and near by trails are gorgeous.
Chalita P. Jul 2017
Great house, well stocked kitchen, and convenient location. More towels would've been nice.
Lisa G. Jun 2017
Love the location and ease of this house!

We came for a few days from CT to visit our son who now lives in Arcata. We thoroughly enjoyed the Gewing House! Walked the trails - cooked in and ate out - enjoyed the hot tub and scenic view. Would definitely come back!

We enjoyed a wonderful long weekend at the Gewing House. The house is beautiful and obviously very well loved. We had a comfortable stay; everyone slept well, making meals in the kitchen was easy and convenient, we enjoyed relaxing by the fire, and we loved the beautiful decor/art. Altogether a comfortable, relaxing experience. Thank you!
Allison W. May 2017
The Gewing House is a favorite getaway! The home has a well appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, awesome views, and aesthetic, artistic touches that enhance the experience. The hot tub with a view of the Pacific as well as numerous decks and windows allow you to immersed in the ever changing moods of the coast. Some new touches such as the gas grill offer expanded opportunities to cook. The house is in easy walking distance to the Sea Ranch trail that hugs the coast. I intend to return again and again! The hardest part is leaving. I will be back!

My parents, my husband, my toddler, and I stayed at the Gewing House for a long weekend. It was the perfect getaway from San Jose. We were initially worried about how our nearly-two-year old would handle the stairs but they weren't an issue. For other toddler parents, a packnplay fit in the twin bed room with just enough space. Our bed was very comfortable. We did a lot of cooking at the house, pleasantly surprised to find a food processer and plenty of pots and pans to get us through the weekend. The hot tub was lovely and private. The art and furnishings were amazing, and views from almost every room in the house. We can't wait to come back.
Lisa T. May 2017
We loved our stay at the Gewing House! It is an eclectic and comfortable home that provides lovely views from all angles and plenty of space for privacy as well as family time. The tide pools and seal rookery within easy walking distance were a definite highlight for us!
Eugene S. Apr 2017
Main floor of house is great. Open floor plan, great views, big kitchen, nice finishes and furniture. Satellite TV available, but channels are very limited. Great light, privacy, and warmth at this level.

Lower level is really subpar. Bedrooms are cold and drafty. Heat in the rooms is lacking. No master suite. Third "bedroom" with bunkbeds is really more the size of a closet and with cold tile floors. Bathrooms could use updating with bad lighting and plumbing fixtures. Inside laundry is nice but noisy and a bit of an eyesore right near the front door. Hot tub feels a bit exposed and doesn't heat up above lukewarm. BBQ at this level is nice but inconvenient to the upstairs kitchen.

Location is good, not ocean front but near enough for views and to hear the waves. Privacy is OK. Not within walking distance of sandy beaches or swimming pools.
Manager response:
We are sorry to hear this house did not meet our guest's expectations. The home is an easy walk (less than a 1/4 mile) to the bluff trail and within easy access (about 1 mile) to tide pools, a sandy beach, and a swimming pool. Maps and directions are in the house. We appreciate being informed about the heating and hot tub. We hope renters will contact us immediately with any such concerns, but we want to assure our guests that the hot tub is now serviced before each rental and the heating system is in good working order. We are sorry to see this guest didn’t like the bunk room. We agree it is small (we prefer to think of it as cozy), and kids tend to love it. The two other bedrooms are well-sized and each has access to a bathroom. We now have high speed fiber optic internet that provides almost unlimited viewing options.
Anna L. Mar 2017
Perfect place for relaxation and exploring the surrounding area! We loved it and would definitely come back again.
Nina H. Mar 2017
We had a lovely birthday getaway with friends here. Beds were terrifically comfortable, tub was clean and working well, with a great view of deer and the ocean. Tastefully furnished. We loved making a fire in the stove while cooking and visiting. Will definitely come back!
Chantha T. Jan 2017
A group of 6 adults stayed here and we never felt crowded or had to wait for time
In the bathroom or sharing the kitchen. The space allows for lots interacting upstairs while downstairs allows privacy for the bedrooms. Windows allow good amount of natural sunlight to come in. I did wish the windows were much bigger but there were still great glimpses of the ocean and trees around us. We made great use of the hot tub, too!

This house must be the best pick in Sea Ranch!

Lovely accommodations. Very comfortable and secluded.

The Gewing house is a beautiful little gem of a cabin located in gorgeous Sea Ranch, CA. The house has all the amenities that one would expect plus amazing views of the ocean. With long walks on the beach or to the local swimming pools, you can truly have a relaxing and rewarding time there. The house is truly in phenomenal condition. I highly recommend staying there.
Anthony Z. Oct 2016
The cabin was nice, the area was wonderful. Deer in your back yard, view of ocean from balcony. Saw whales from balcony. Fog was a beautiful experience. Be aware it's 3 hours from airport and very winded roads. Be very careful to avoid hitting deer on the roads.
Micah A. Sep 2016
A wonderful home, upstairs/living room area is well lit, nice views. Lots of cool balconies, nice for star gazing. Great for kids. About a 5 minute walk to the water. Would definitely stay here again. Thank you.
Cynthia A. Sep 2016
Wonderful view with all the amenities one needs and expects.
Karen F. Aug 2016
We enjoyed our stay at Gewing House.
Felicia A. Jul 2016
A few friends and I went to the Gewing House for a summertime beach getaway. The house was beautiful and full of so many fun nooks and crannies. Nice backyard and beautiful views, we enjoyed not being too close to our neighbors to have some room to play around.
Jay L. Jul 2016
Gewing House is a beautiful place to set aside stress and reconnect with your family. We hadn't gotten away in a few years, and even though we couldn't really afford the time or the cost of the place, we made it work and it was more than worth it.

It's a tastefully decorated home with a view of the coast that makes just being there a memorable experience. Family gatherings in the living room, cooking in the spacious kitchen and quiet times on the FOUR decks upstairs and downstairs are all things you should experience during your stay. Also, climb the little trail out back that goes by the driftwood deer and have a moment of reflection on that little bench atop the hill.

A short drive takes you by this little gem: http://www.seecalifornia.com/architecture/the-sea-ranch-chapel.html
It's a work of art you can meditate in. (didn't get to visit this trip, but if you haven't seen it, you should).

Definitely check out Placewares and Heart of a Child if you like unique gifts.

We live in Sacramento and love it, but there is a magic on the north coast that really shines in Sea Ranch. Something I don't feel anywhere else in the world.
