Cozy dog-friendly riverfront cottage w/ charming interior & hot tub!

Nestled in a forest of towering old-growth Douglas fir and cedar, this one-bedroom, one-bath cottage is perfect for a couple or a solo visitor (in a pinch, it can sleep up to 4). Hand-built and rustic, Eva's Cottage is also comfortable and cozy, with many luxurious touches like the new hot tub and deck, down comforter and pillows on the queen-size bed, and travertine/river rock shower. You'll love sleeping in the custom-built log bed -- truly one of a kind! View the River year-round from the expansive kitchen windows and the wrap-around porch, and seasonally from the rest of the cottage.

The greatroom is dominated by a massive, wood-burning stone fireplace, with antique casement windows that look out on woodland and river views. The den is a quiet, serene spot for reading or napping, and the kitchen is completely furnished to accommodate serious cooks, as well as those seeking a vacation from cooking.

In the well-equipped kitchen you'll find a programmable drip coffee maker, coffee filters, coffee grinder, a French Press, a Keurig machine, microwave, toaster oven, electric water kettle, placemats, cloth napkins, tea towels and a British hotel teapot with a copper cozy. All this is in addition to a full set of cookware, flatware, glasses, dinnerware for 4 and full-size appliances. Outside there's a gas grill for barbecues.

Amenities at Eva's Cottage include firewood, beach mats, and a cleanup kit/towels for canine guests. Apple (Internet) TV in greatroom and TV/DVD/stereo in bedroom (there is no TV reception -the trees are so large they block line of sight to satellites) are available for indoor entertainment, along with a nice selection of games and books. A good supermarket (Safeway), drugstore, and other services are about 14 miles away in the town of Washougal.

Sited on a picturesque bend in the Washougal River, this home sits in a shady, wooded spot right on the bank, with a short path down to a rocky, sandy beach, and directly across from a year-round waterfall and 20' swimming hole. No fishing is allowed here, but you can put your kayak or canoe in here, and watch as salmon make their way up to their spawning ground and fish hatchery, just a mile upriver. The beach has no public access, but is shared with guests at adjacent River Bend Lodge, and, from time to time, a few close, trusted, respectful neighbors. Most likely, you'll have it all to yourself, and can swim, wade and sunbathe to your heart's content. Your dogs will love it here - and they're more than welcome for a small nightly fee!

The surrounding forest is part of a 26-acre family compound that is shared with River Bend Lodge -- it can be rented together with Eva's Cottage, if your group is larger than four people. This property boasts multiple scenic trails that lead to old growth forests. The Blue, White, Yellow, and Red Trails offer ancient cedars, wildflowers, and even a traditional and recently restored cabin. Bring your hiking boots (and for two of the trails, flotation devices)!

The forest is filled with northwest native plants and old-growth trees. This little pocket is unique, since it was never logged; some of the trees here are more than 300 years old. You're likely to find deer strolling past the windows, grazing. Many kinds of birds, ducks, geese and other wildlife also call this wonderful spot home. Common visitors include eagles, heron, hawks, and deer. The land surrounding the Cottage and across the river is private and protected. The temperate climate is never too hot or too cold.

This retreat includes a large (and rare) stand of old-growth Douglas fir, Western cedar, hemlock and maple; some of which are estimated to be more than 300 years old. Eva's descendants steward the land and maintain the forest with an eye to future generations' enjoyment.

The Washougal River is one of only two completely unpolluted rivers in the region. All manner of outdoor activities are close by, yet the setting itself is secluded and free from the noise and distractions of everyday life. Eva's Cottage is a perfect launch pad, with easy, year-round access to hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and more. It River offers fine fishing, whitewater rafting, canoeing and kayaking as it flows into the mighty Columbia River just a few miles to the south.

Eva's Cottage is completely smoke-free; no smoking is allowed within 150 feet of the Cottage. Smokers must use the provided container and must douse smoking materials thoroughly. Please respect our irreplaceable forest.

Note: Beach fires and/or fishing from the beach are not allowed (there is great fishing just a mile downriver, on the other side of the Salmon Falls bridge).

* Please note that there is no cell service at this home.

This little cottage was everything we wanted! It was a wonderful location right on the river, a cozy home with some nice updates, well maintained, and the hot tub was perfect on a starry night. Our only issue was the late 4 p.m. check in. In the fall and winter months, there's no more light to explore before it gets dark.

Eva's Cottage is tucked between the river and tall gorgeous trees. I really appreciated that there were marked trails just steps from the front door. On my last day at the cottage, I took a soak in the hot tub and watched a bald eagle fly over the river. With music and TV off, you can hear the river from inside the cottage - so peaceful.
Will definitely book again in the future.

Me encanto muy bonito el lugar y muy limpio

Everything was in place for a excellent stay.
Matthew W. Nov 2018
My wife and I brought our 7-month old baby with us for a weekend getaway. We had high expectations for a cozy weekend by the river, but Eva's Cottage was above and beyond perfect. The fireplace was warm, and beautifully crafted, the bed was very comfortable, and the river was pristine. Although another cabin is not far away, the cottage has lots of privacy, and the hot tub was an added bonus. Our daughter had such a great time. We definitely plan on returning

We cannot wait to come back to this gem! What a beautiful place in a wonderful setting.

Cozy cottage in a magical location:)

This place is amazing. I would highly recommend this cottage. It’s peaceful, beautiful and private.

There are two great things about this property: first, the location is beautiful, peaceful, and surprisingly convenient to access (coming from the Portland / Vancouver area). Second, the house itself is clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. The bed is comfy, the bathroom is nice, the hot tub is great (and private), and there are some choice spots to sit back and take in the forest and the river.

My only minor complaint is that the TV is tiny and the blu-ray player didn't work when I was there, but given how satisfied I was with the overall experience, I still think the place deserves a five-star rating.

The water in the river and its beach; and the warm water in the jacuzzi
Martha M. Aug 2018
We love this cottage! This was our second time, and it's always just lovely. It's small, but beautifully appointed.
Laurel S. Jul 2018
As stated before, lovely rustic retreat.
Natasha W. Jul 2018
Eva's cottage was amazing. Perfect spot by the river to enjoy the beauty surrounding. Loved the kitchen and could not get enough of the view through all the windows. Great spot to get away.
Dennis G. Jul 2018
The cottage is charming and inviting. All your needs have been anticipated. The marked trails through the woods a joy. We had a lengthy face-to-face encounter with a deer on the White trails. While the clear water of the Upper Washougal is very cold, the small falls and rapids feeding the swimming hole are pleasant and relaxing.
Patrick L. May 2018
Fantastic home away from the bustle of city living. Beautiful surroundings and it's right next to the Washougal River.
Becky L. Apr 2018
We got goosebumps when we drove up and saw the cottage for the first time. We were shocked at just how close it is to the river. We are keeping this cottage in mind for future trips. We loved eating meals on the porch and looking down on the river. We also enjoyed coffee down on the little beach every morning. The hot tub was wonderful! We want to come back in the summer months so we can swim in the river. This cottage is a gem. My husband would say it needed faster internet ;) but hey, it worked! We were very sad to go but are looking forward to our next trip to Washougal.
Gae R. Apr 2018
This is a lovely cabin, well appointed, with everything that you might need for a rustic getaway. No cell service at the house, but running away to the woods doesn't require connection to all those folks you are running away from! They can get you via email if they need you!

The grounds around the cabin are well stewarded, and there are trails to wander through to see what's blooming. Rainy and drizzly for most of my stay, but the woods are thick enough that not much gets to you under the canopy. I would so stay here again.

Had a small electrical issue while I was here that was quickly and efficiently taken care of by Vacasa. They were great.

I'll be back!
Erin M. Apr 2018
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Eva's cottage. The view was amazing and the setting was peaceful. Lots of great hikes in the area. The cottage was clean and provided all the little things we needed.
Paula E. Mar 2018
My honey and I got out of Portland during the week for a wonderful getaway to Eva's Cottage. We stayed at Riverbend Lodge in January with a group of friends and both of these properties are AMAZING! The view is stunning and the hot tub is sooooooo relaxing. The trails are well-maintained and the cottage was stocked with lots of amenities and firewood! We'll definitely be back! Suggestions....kindling (although we scrounged around the woods and found lots of sticks!), matches, and maybe a hammock?? :) - thank you! Paula & Ruth
Tye N. Mar 2018
Beautifully maintained cottage right on the river. We loved the design, layout, and amenities of this cozy little cottage. The scenery is just breath taking. Will be back with the whole family in the future. Thank you for having us.
Marcy R. Mar 2018
Very beautiful and peaceful property. Would love to come back and rent the adjacent property with our family. Very clean and nice.
Tracy U. Mar 2018
Cozy secluded cottage in beautiful surroundings!
Leifur H. Mar 2018
Our cares melted away in the beautiful surroundings. We loved the fireplace, kitchen, shower, and walking by the river. We had a little snowfall, which made it extra beautiful. Would love to return!
Amanda S. Feb 2018
I’m not sure why people were complaining about the neighbors on their reviews. We didn’t see one other human during our stay! The cabin next door was empty and the next neighbors are far enough away that you wouldn’t be bothered by them. The river is only a couple steps from the cottage and is absolutely breathtaking. I have never in my life seen water so blue and majestic! And to be able to view such beauty from a relaxing hot tub was amazing. The price and comfort level of this cottage was just right. We can’t wait to come back in the spring!
Clint S. Feb 2018
Great place, very peaceful and beautiful. Hopefully the hot tub will not chemically burn your skin as it did ours. Still worth it.
Manager response:
We are glad to see this guest still enjoyed their stay despite the hot tub issue they encountered. We have refunded the guest for the problem and retrained the housekeeper that balanced the hot tub. Thank you!
Lori K. Feb 2018
We had a great experience at the cabin. It’s secluded, quiet, clean and pleasant. Thoroughly enjoyed our time.
Nathaniel M. Feb 2018
Excellent place to get away from the city. Definitely need to stay more than one night. Ill surely return here in the future.
Jessica H. Jan 2018
We stayed here with our 2 younger children in January. This property is very beautiful, and the access to the river and hiking is perfect. There were a few details which could be better attended to (no fire starters, empty propane tanks, and only 2 towels provided for the spa). The wifi wasn't working and it would have been nice to know that in advance. On the whole our stay was great. The cottage had plenty of space and was comfortable for the 4 of us plus our dog. Kitchen was well-stocked with dishes and cooking supplies.
Manager response:
We are sorry to see there were some disappointments during an otherwise enjoyable stay. The WiFi is now working again, the propane tanks are full, and we have provided an ample amount of towels. Thanks!
Melanie V. Dec 2017
We had a wonderful time on our holiday getaway to this cottage. The cottage is beautiful, very nicely finished and the views out every window are spectacular.
Ryan R. Dec 2017
A perfect getaway right on the river of the Washougal river with hot tub and fire place what else could you want. The Wifi did not work which was a bummer as I was expecting to do some work the first day but was nice not having the distraction on the other days. There are cute little hiking trails through the woods directly from the cabin and your own private beach which our puppy loved to run about. The kitchen is great for cooking and has everything you need. The pictures do not do it justice, you can hear the river from inside the house and sit have coffee in the kitchen enjoying the views. Will be going back hopefully sometime soon!
Manager response:
We apologize for any inconveniences regarding the WiFi; guests are always welcome to call us for assistance with amenities. Thank you!
Dolores P. Dec 2017
I could say a million things to describe the view and location and even the beautiful scenery on the drive there but nothing I say would do It justice. You really have to see it for yourself. I suggest maybe brining your own DVD player if you’re wanting to watch a movie because the one provided didn’t work well. Other than that MINOR complaint I have nothing bad to say about our stay. My boyfriend and I hadn’t seen eachother in years (he’s in the military) and this was such a perfect place for us to spend some time together. I’m so happy it didn’t rain one day because we got to use the hot tub which was also amazing. I HIGHLY recommend this beautiful cottage. I’m having withdrawals from it now!
Michelle M. Dec 2017
Eva's Cottage was a perfect location for our anniversary getaway. It was secluded and cozy and the views and sounds of the river were amazing. Our dog loved the hiking trails all around the property, and we sure enjoyed the hot tub after our long days of exploring the area. We would love to be able to stay again during warmer weather when we can enjoy the swimming hole and "beach". Overall a perfect romantic getaway.
Marcia R. Nov 2017
We enjoyed our stay in the forest at this cottage. The location is wonderfully relaxing.
Monica P. Nov 2017
I loved listening to the roaring river from the cottage! This place is a total gem and offers something wonderful no matter the season. I would absolutely stay here again.
KENNETH P. Nov 2017
The name could be Eagles Nest as we watched three male and one female Bald Eagle fly around and land in the trees and on the beach for about a half hour one morning. It is a beautiful cabin in a beautiful setting.
Josh U. Oct 2017
As the title says, we ran into (quite literally) all three in almost every corner of this cabin. Outside was pretty understandable for a cabin "in the woods." However the amount of live and dead spiders through out the cabin shows the complete neglect and poorly cleaned state of the cabin. A few spiders here and there would have been dismissed as it being a cabin in the woods, but dust covered cobwebs on the ceilings, light fixtures(both ceiling and eye level bathroom fixture) bed frame, and side table lights shows this location is seriously lacking in a professional cleaning company that cares to put the work in. We read some reviews from previous guests about spider webs and dust but thought maybe it was people just being picky. We shouldn't have dismissed it. We booked 3 nights to unwind from a roadtrip honeymoon. We didn't stay for our third night and actually packed our belongings and left at 11pm at night and drove the 3.5 hours home. My wife saw a spider on the back part of the bed frame that she wanted me to squish, she shined a flashlight on it so I could see better and noticed the astonishing amount of old and new cobwebs behind the bed. After seeing it we couldn't bring our selves to stay one more night.
Our entire stay was killing spiders, wiping cobwebs from lights and corners, and picking up old dead bugs. Not to mention you could see the history of squished spiders on the walls and ceilings (we know because we killed a few crawling up the walls next to us and left a similar dirt mark, which we cleaned up) but the marks still there from previous guests shows it's an ongoing issue.
The cabin itself was nice, comfortable, and secluded (sort of, the lodge is very close) and the river was very calming and added to the cabin feel, but that faded away into our first whole day there after the feeling of spiders being on you. The hotub was relaxing, but it's lacking a rack for the lid so you'll have to put it on the ground and lift it back up every time you use it.
Manager response:
We apologize if this stay was not as perfect as we would have wished. The home has been deep cleaned, and pest control has sprayed for bugs and set bait and traps for mice.
Iliana P. Oct 2017
This cottage is so great that we came back a second year in a row and have now decided to make it a permanent birthday weekend tradition. The gorgeous woods come right up to the yard so the view from anywhere inside is amazing. Last year a family of deer ran by just feet from the hotub while we were in it! The river is so close that you can see and hear it from the kitchen table and when it's low enough there's a great little sandy beach area. We loved the new rocking chair set on the front porch (which has the same beautiful view as the kitchen). It is close to the other house, but that didn't actually bother us. LOVE this place.
Monty M. Oct 2017
Couldn't have been a better spot. Very quiet and secluded.
Catherine H. Sep 2017
What a great, cozy place to relax and unwind. The beach is magnificent, the cottage defines coziness, and the trees are just what makes the area so lovely!
Melanie H. Aug 2017
This is the perfect place to get away. A paradise hidden in the woods. Noce view of the washougal river from the dining room. Perfect swimming spot. We jad a blast and will definitely be back!
Brian L. Aug 2017
The location on the river is remarkable. Lovely house, perfect for two and a dog. We'll be back.
Stacey C. Aug 2017
Eva's Cottage, with its environs and history, was everything that I had hoped and more. It is adorable, perfectly-set in the trees with huge river view, well-maintained, and obviously carefully-designed and -furnished throughout. It's part of a very special 80 acres!
Michelle T. Aug 2017
Loved this cabin and it's location. Very cozy and the river is BEAUTIFUL! Will visit again next year and bring the family. Hoping to rent both the cabin and the Riverbend Lodge. 😊
Robert S. Aug 2017
If you aren't too fussy about cleanliness, or osha approved steps and stairs, this place is stupendous. I saw a mama deer and her baby, within inches of the front entrance. The river is a down a short trail and the beach is private and awesome. The kitchen is well equipped. the hot tub is under a beautiful canopy of tress.
Lyndell W. Jul 2017
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Eva's Cottage and would definitely return.
The cottage is located on a very pretty part of the Washougal River and has a little sandy beach a quick and easy walk from the cottage.
It is definitely not very private with the cabin right next door. We weren't thrilled when one of the guests invited himself over to chat when he saw us having a glass of wine on the front porch. A few trees planted strategically could fix this easily.
Also the nice little beach seems to attract everyone and their dogs as there was multiple people there all hours of the day and night some even letting their dogs come up and do there "business" right in the walk way in front of our cottage.
Overall the amenities are pretty good if you're ok with cooking (no real close restaurants) and you want a quiet getaway.
There is absolutely no cell service but there is a phone and the internet works ok so signup for WhatsApp if you want to use your phone while you're there!

Annette D. Jul 2017
I wanted a different experience from the regular hotel stay (nothing against hotels at all) and found this online. The scenery was beautiful and the cottage was charming. I love that there was a journal for the guests to write about their experiences for the next visitors. The location was great for day trips to Multnomah Falls and Portland.
Jill M. Jul 2017
Eva's cabin is simple, sweet, well-maintained and sits on a perfect piece of property. The space isn't large but every bit is used well so it is very comfortable. The windows (which all work and have screens!) are generous so the home is bright. Exceptional shower. With the windows open you can hear the river bubbling. Sweet swimming hole and beach area; pleasant porch as well as a back yard seating area, table and chairs with hot tub. Quiet. Peaceful. Green. Lovely. The information about the history of the property and cabin is really fabulous. The trails the owner has set up that share the property so generously are well maintained, marked and laid out. The family's intention to care for this property is clear and admirable. Don't miss this great retreat!
Lynne C. Jun 2017
A beautifully restored old cabin with high quality furnishings, especially in the kitchen and bath. Plenty of extra linens and cooking tools. The shower and fireplace are over the top beautiful. The close access to the beautiful sandy beach is five stars all by itself. The hot tub is just delightful. You are never far from the sweet sound of the river! Very dog friendly.
Shauna H. May 2017
We were so pleased when we arrived at the Cabin on the upper Washougal River. The Cabin is perfect for 2 & the river view is gorgeous. The interior of the Cabin is well appointed. However, housekeeping by Vacasa is unacceptable. Spiderwebs & cobwebs on the ceilings & in the corners, dirty floors & mouse droppings on the kitchen table, counters, window sills & even on the bed covers was a disappointment. The hot tub was not well cleaned either. For needles & bits of detritus required us to clean it out before using it. Seek assurance from Vacasa that the Cabin has been thoroughly cleaned & that you'll be compensated if you arrive to find it otherwise.
Manager response:
This home has been deep cleaned since this reservation. Mouse bait stations are in place to help eradicate that issue, and the hot tub has been cleaned. Thank you!
Jenny P. Mar 2017
Great spot on the river, surrounded by trees. Very clean. Perfect little spot to escape the city. Bring your own wood if you plan to use the wood burning fireplace.
Nina M. Feb 2017
Only complaint is it is lacking some privacy with the cabin next door but would be a great spot for a group vacation if you rent the cabin next door.
Jared S. Jan 2017
Had a great time in the cottage. The cottage is beautiful and very clean. It is super quiet and there is some great wildlife to be seen.
The only thing I would suggest though is to bring some kindling and maybe also some of your own wood for the fireplace as the wood we were provided with was a bit damp. There was also no kindling to help start the fire and no hatchet around to chop our own from the provided wood.
Audrey H. Dec 2016
Me and my husband spent two nights here and it was just the escape we needed. Both of us are so busy in our lives it's hard to spend time together. Me being a executive Chef and him a contractor, we have busy schedules real round. This was perfect for us. Nice and quiet. The kitchen had all the tools I needed to make amazing food. (I did bring all my own spices and oils and my personal knives). While he enjoyed the craftsman ship of the home. It was exactly what we needed and I even took some of the business cards off the desk and have been giving them to my friends. We are already planning our next get away. Thank you so much for sharing your cabin with us.

Lady Chef & The Handy Man.
Tye S. Dec 2016
Nestled beneath the green canopy, Eva's cabin in the woods is situated in the heart of the forest and a stone's throw away from the Washougal River. You simply couldn't pick a more relaxing, peaceful place to escape to.
Sanjana P. Oct 2016
Great location for relaxing.
Anthony G. Oct 2016
We stayed here for a night on short notice for a quick getaway. We were so sad to have to leave after only one night. It was so beautiful there. And although there is a house right next door, it still feels private. The hot tub is on the back side of the house away from the neighbors. We will be back, only next time for much longer!
Walter E. Oct 2016
If the sound and sight of a mountain river rushing over rocks is your idea of the perfect background for reading, writing, sipping wine, or napping, Eva's Cottage on the gorgeous Washougal River is as good as it gets.

Eva's has a more modern feel to it than other cabins from the same time period you might stay in, but the updated kitchen and bathroom, the very efficient forced air furnace, and available wi-fi will keep you from feeling like you're roughing it more than you're comfortable with. The big stone fireplace is a wonder (read the history of the cabin to really appreciate it) and lovely to stare into at the end of the day.

If you like exploring and scenery, there's no shortage of amazing views - from the Washougal River Road drive from Washougal to the cabin, Cape Horn on Hwy 14, or the little towns of Stevenson and Carson further up the road...

Eva's was the perfect spot for some much needed downtime.

Andrea S. Oct 2016
Had excellent experience of 3 days at Eva's Cabin. You cannot ask for a more peaceful and beautiful setting on the river. We had the advantage of no one staying at River Bend Lodge next store so was very private. Great location to take day trips for hiking the glorious Columbia River Gorge. Loved the stone fireplace and had a cozy fire every night. Picnic by the river with a great glass of wine was also a wonderful memory. Being from Texas, we especially enjoyed the lovely old growth forest, waterfall, and pristine river. Cabin was well maintained and spotless!
Jenny B. Sep 2016
Thanks for the thorough instructions and great communication!
Marcia & John M. Sep 2016
RELAXING. BEWARE NO CELL SERVICE.
Alison S. Sep 2016
Super cute little house in the forest. Location is amazing next to the river. Closer to neighbours than expected but not a big deal. House is perfectly cleaned and kitted out. Only negatives were issues connecting TVs to Internet and some problems with vacasa service. Would have been 5 star if wasn't firstborn things.
Leslie H. Sep 2016
Great little house for a quiet get away
Andrea T. Sep 2016
As previously promised we came back for a longer stay in the cabin and were so glad we did. Love this quiet little spot and all the comforts it provides.
Jeanne O. Sep 2016
Among the beauty of nature at Eva's cottage was also the joy of watching a mother dear & her 2 fawns.
Krista S. Aug 2016
We stayed at Eva's Cottage for 2 nights in August 2016. The property is very well maintained and clean. It is a perfect spot for a couple looking to get away for a little bit. The area is peaceful with only the sound of running water to be heard. We enjoyed the hot tub and grill on the deck and fireplace inside.
Phil R. Aug 2016
Very nice. Front door lock is confusing
Kristina L. Aug 2016
We loved the cabin and the river was wonderful beyond my dreams. It was quiet down by the river ... up by the cabin the hot tub ran constantly. We would have liked a few more items in the kitchen ... like sharp knives and a few mixing bowls. But we would definitely come back and have already recommended it to friends.
Manager response:
We appreciate the suggestion and have supplied a new knife set and mixing bowls in the kitchen. Thank you!
CHRISTINA C. Aug 2016
Just loved the place. Beautiful surroundings
Will come back for a longer stay next time
Marian A. Aug 2016
Off the grid but with all the comforts of home in a beautiful setting . Beautiful cabinet . Nice views of the river in front of the cabinet. Just a short walk down to it with a small "beach area" Spent one whole day there just relaxing on the beach and river. I loved staying there and driving on the Washington side of the Columbian River.
Just know that there are extra fees added to the nightly rate. Vacasa is very honest about it and the details appear on the check out form to tell you exactly what they are for. Our fees extra fees were over a $100.00.
Petra P. Aug 2016
This place was beautiful beyond my expectations. Yes, it was small but we did entertain our family and friends and my husband loved the BBQ. The path to the river opens to a perfect place to hang on a sunny day. I loved it and will seriously return.
Sarah B. Aug 2016
Nice cabin with great swimming area out back.
Amey R. Jul 2016
We had a great time in what felt like a private oasis surrounded by beautiful trees, river and wildlife.
Andrea T. Jul 2016
To sum up how much we enjoyed our stay at Eva's cottage I'll just say we're booking again for later this summer. Our hopes of getting out of town for the July 4th holiday to somewhere quieter (sans fireworks for our doggy dear) were far exceeded once we landed in the woods and on the river. So postcard perfect!

A few reviews have remarked on the spot being small--we found it to be larger than expected. The amenities were all thoughtfully shared and we had everything we needed for our picnics, cooking a nice meal, and overall comfort. The hot tub was very clean and enjoyable and the stone shower really nice. The small and rustic touches of the cottage give it such lovely charm. We especially fell in love with the fireplace stone work and history of the land and cabin.

The river really is just steps away and there is a perfect little beach spot for enjoying it. The wildlife was abundant--we saw river otters, a beaver working on his neighboring lodge, kingfishers and many other sweet birds. The water was brisk, but so clear and nice for a summer day dip.

This spot is truly something special and we look forward to returning!
Elisabeth T. Jul 2016
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying at Eva's Cottage for our honeymoon! It was exactly what we wanted - a little getaway in the middle of the woods. That said, if you want to go anywhere (restaurants, grocery store), make sure to plan on it taking at least 30 minutes to get there because the cottage is so tucked away! The scenery outside the cottage was absolutely stunning, and we enjoyed finding crawdads in the river outside. It is a perfect little rental, and I would absolutely stay here again!
Katherine N. Jun 2016
Great place to stay off the beaten path!
David H. May 2016
What an amazing place with a fantastic history. Great place to get away from it all.
Quiet, quiet, quiet!
Carol M. May 2016
Nice, quiet getaway for two!
Stephen M. May 2016
Dianne A. Apr 2016
Enjoy the river right out your door. Perfect for summer swimming or cozy winter get away.
Robert A. Apr 2016
Beautiful property! Just remember bug spray. If not there is a mercantile about ten minutes down the road and they are super nice!
Megan M. Feb 2016
Great girls trip! The house is cute and great location. Excited to come back in the summer and jump in the river

Beautiful home and breath taking location. The property is a little smaller than what the pictures make it seem but it was perfect for us. Very private area, the only other people around were the neighbors, but the only time you can even see them from the home is in the kitchen if you are looking out the window. I would love to come back during the summer as the water looked wonderful. At night we were able to use the hot tub under the stars, it made for a wonderful romantic weekend getaway.

Cute location for a quick get away without being too far out of town. It is all that it is advertised to be.

We can't wait to come back to Eva's Cottage. It was even more wonderful than the photos. What took our breath away was the proximity to the river which flows just below the Cottage. It is so quiet and cozy and the rock fireplace is magical and the river rock shower is amazing. We cannot recommend this very special place highly enough

Beautiful cabin on the lovely washougal River.

Tucked away off the main highway is a hidden gem of a cottage. Historic, nicely upgraded and next to the lovely clean river. Can't ask for more if you are looking for a peaceful retreat from busy life. Great place to decompress.

Well done and very accommodating !

No pictures or descriptions really do this place justice. If you're into nature and getting away from urban settings you can't go wrong here. The cottage is great; well equipped and appointed. the setting is spectacular - perched just above the Washougal River. If it's hot the swimming hole naturally formed in the bank of the river is amazing. We enjoyed our time there immensely, and think you will too.
Doug M. Jul 2015
One of our best holidays ever. Stay here as long as you can. The beauty and the quiet will energize you even as you find yourself unwinding.
Scott B. Jun 2015
While it was too hot to use the hot tub during the heat wave, we had the beautiful, quiet, and cold river to relax in! The swimming hole was amazing to have. Will definitely be back with friends and also rent the lodge next door. Even with a few families renting the lodge next door, it still was peaceful, private, and wonderful.
Matt N. Jun 2015
This was the perfect spot for our 10 year anniversary getaway. The house was convenient to both Portland (while being just far enough away to have a little getaway) as well as all the offerings of the Columbia Rover Gorge area. We sat down on the "beach" in front of the house and watched the river and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the house. Everything was perfect.
Jamie B. Jun 2015
The swimming hole was incredible and by far the best part of our experience. I enjoyed hours of floating on a tube and observing all of the life in the waters below. The kids dug in the sand, played with all the cool water bugs, fish fry, snails, cool river larvae, etc, while our dog fetched sticks. He loved it! It was such a wonderful natural place down by the river. It even had a shade tree. The cabin itself was great too. There was enough room for our family of four when we used the single pull out bed and futon. Drinking coffee early in the morning in the kitchen before the kids woke up, looking out on the river, was one of the best parts. You can tell the owners care about the place and we enjoyed reading the history of the cabin and surrounding property. We were temped to look at lots on the Washougal river, but none could compare with the setting at the cabin. So, for now, we can't wait to visit "our" cabin again very soon!
Note: There is a cabin right next door (that is also a VRBO rental). We still felt a lot of privacy even though that cabin was rented the entire time of our stay. If you had a large family gathering, renting both would be amazing! The larger cabin does not allow pets however.

At the risk of having this become impossible for me to book again, I have to say that everything in the description is true, the solitude and beauty of the home and location is incredible, and the comfort and ease of staying there unmatched. There are truly only a few places I have stayed where EVERYTHING met or exceeded my expectations and this is one of them. A very special place, clearly loved and well cared for, and precious. I am deeply grateful that the owners have chosen to share it with the world - if you go, please take care of it.
Bret D. Jun 2015
We came for our honeymoon and it was an amazing experience. The neighbors were polite but and not bothersome. The staff was polite and helped us with anything we needed. The area around the cabin is beautiful and it has easy access to the Columbia River Gorge and Oregon coast.
Roberta N. May 2015
We will be back as soon as we can. The property is comfortable, the area beautiful and peaceful. The river running along the property and the surrounding trees was a sight to be see . We did not want to leave and go back to reality!!! I highly recommend this property (unless you want to go when we want to go back)!! LOl!!!
Roberta G. May 2015
Thanks for letting us stay in your cabin! It was the perfect get away for the weekend and we were lucky and had beautiful weather to utilize the swimming hole on the creek. We can't wait to come back again some day!

This is really a special place. Being from Vancouver it wasn't very far. But it felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. Everything was terrific! The cottage was very clean and well stalked. My only criticism would be the firewood. Like other cottages I have stayed at, the wood doesn't burn well. I brought an axe to cut it into smaller pieces and that helped. I brought a couple duraflame logs that made a huge difference. Other then that, make sure to bring your own food. There is a store about 3 miles down the road but it's expensive. Other then that enjoy! I wasn't brave enough to swim in the cold river but the hot tub was so nice. Especially at night. It's all very private. I have no doubt I will return soon!

Once again we have had the best time. Stayed with Vacasa when we were in Tacoma and now here at Eva's Cottage. What a gem in the wilds. Made me home sick for my Cabin. The owners have made their grandmother very happy. I know she's smiling down on every one who shares her place. Every detail was thought out and made for a comfortable stay. We loved this place and Will definitely return.
Manager response:
Thank you for your fantastic review! We are so happy to hear you loved this cabin as much as we do. It's the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We look forward to seeing you soon!

We are always thrilled to hear that a guest loves Eva's Cottage just as much as we do. The attention to detail really makes this a special little cottage and we are so happy that you were able to have a great experience here. Thank you for choosing Vacasa! We hope to see you again soon!

Our 6th visit to Eva's.... (we own 4 vacation rentals of our own) but we choose to vacation at Eva's as we can just relax, read and "be". Wonderful secluded location on the Washougal River makes for a peaceful retreat that breaks us of the daily hustle and bustle being business owners brings. Thank you as always for providing a wonderful retreat to escape to.
Dave B. Feb 2015
More than happy loved the location. The cottage was very comfortable & pristine. I really appreciated the detailed info re nearest grocery stores restaurants etc. Directions & check in Very user friendly. I'm sorry I'm not more eloquent to do the whole experience more justice. Thank u so much plan to visit again.
Manager response:
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! We are happy to hear you loved the home!

The high reviews for this charming little cabin don't lie! This place is incredible. Although the weather was mostly wet and dreary, we still had a fantastic time.
Brian S. Feb 2015
The pictures do not do this home justice. It is very cute and relaxing inside and out. Wonderfully quiet location. The views are fantastic and we can't wait to return during the summer and jump in the swimming hole.
Craig P. Dec 2014
Believe the reviews - this place is a gem! Quiet, comfortable, warm, great location - everything you need for a relaxing getaway. We only stayed 2 nights but were already planning our next visit before we left.
The only minor gripe is that there's plenty of firewood provided, but no firestarting materials - I'd suggest picking up some kindling on your way in, especially if it's wet outside.
Tracey F. Dec 2014
We had a great stay. The cottage was quiet and serene. Wood was readily available. The neighbors are not a problem at all. You wouldn't know they are there if not for the lights coming from the house. Overall I would recommend this cottage for anyone looking for a very quiet, peaceful experience.
Theresa W. Nov 2014
This is a great place to unwind and relax. The views from the kitchen are georgeous. I love the sound of the river and we really enjoyed the hot tub!
Tammy B. Oct 2014
We stayed here to unwind from the city and it did the job. Comfortable, clean and woodsy - however, bring your own wood for the fireplace, when we stayed there it rained and was all wet.

I will consider staying here or the other building on the property again.
Diana C. Oct 2014
Eva's cottage was a perfect place for us to stay on our honeymoon. We stayed there for three nights before we drove up to Victoria--perfect midpoint! The drive there was beautiful (if confusing--we lost our gps signal--beware!) and the house was cozy and had everything we needed. We loved watching the river from the kitchen window, relaxing in the hot tub, and strolling outside. We would definitely go to Eva's Cottage again.
Manager response:
I am so delighted that this home worked out so well as part of your honeymoon! I am sorry to hear that that the drive was confusing, and we know that it can be. We send driving directions via email to all of our guests one week prior to their stay to help with that. We do hope to have you stay with us again. Thank you for choosing Vacasa!
Alexis B. Sep 2014
We loved the seclusion this property offered. The sound of the river was a wonderful thing to wake up to in the morning. It's beauty was one of our favorite parts. We hope to come back again!
DeAnne D. Sep 2014
This is my husband and my fifth stay at Eva's. It is always a relaxing get away - peaceful, quiet and no cell phone service - just what we needed as busy business owners who needed to take a "pause" from life. Just cooked in the fully stocked kitchen, read books, walked the trails and relaxed. One night we did go out to the Hearth Restaurant in Washougal - which is one of our favorites. We love our get away at Eva's and that's why we keep coming back.
Jennifer C. Sep 2014
Went to Eva's cabin for the weekend, but felt longer because it was so serene and quiet. Very relaxing and offered everything we needed. Definitely plan to return soon!
David O. Sep 2014
The check in and out process was convenient. This little cottage has a lot to offer.
Matt B. Aug 2014
Overall, this was a great place to stay. It was very cozy and had most of the things needed for a comfortable stay. I didn't feel the cleanliness of the house upon arrival was up to the standards that it should have been, but we enjoyed our stay nonetheless.

A bit of attention to a few small things could make a big difference. A regular visit by a maintenance person to fix a few of the things that typically need attention in a home. A set of instructions on how to operate the TV, stereo, Blu-ray player, etc. Making sure there are extra batteries, light bulbs, etc. on site.

While there is another house roughly 200 feet away, this was a very peaceful, quiet, and serene place to unwind and relax. The furniture and bedding were very nice and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, and utensils. Was nice having all the small appliances to use.

We heard and saw Osprey and Eagles, and nearly got to touch 3 Deer, including a young buck.

We have been searching the Pacific NW for a retirement home for years now. The area is perfect! I wanted to just stay. It has the most peaceful setting I have ever found. Whoever finished the cabin was a master craftsman.
Vincent C. Jul 2014
Quiet, peacefull and really neat history of cabin. Read cabin history book. Saw an awesome young fox and some dear.
Gene G. May 2014
Eva's Cottage has vintage charm but luxurious modern upgrades. There was plenty of firewood, it was very quiet, and a good place to see the beauty of the Gorge area. We spent quite a bit of time just driving up the beautiful side roads, with no particular destination. Our only tiny complaint was that the pictures don't show how close the (very quiet) neighbors are.
Robin B. Apr 2014
I am usually a pretty picky renter, so for those reading this, you can believe this review. This cabin was the perfect get away for me and my husband. It was quiet, secluded and very scenic. The view of the river from the porch and from the kitchen table couldn't be better. We ate our lunch down on the river bank, listening to the waterfall and the birds. We sat on the porch and just watched the river roll by. I cooked every meal for us there and found everything I needed including space in the fridge and cabinets to store our food. Yes there was TV available but with the river and the hot tub, who had time to watch it! The cabin is well kept the bed was very comfortable to sleep in as well. I can highly recommend this cabin as a place to get away from it all, we sure did and loved it!!
Manager response:
This is such a great review! It's a pleasure to hear that this cabin impressed you. Spending time among the gorgeous scenery and the relaxing river is such a wonderful way to get away from the world! Who needs a TV when you have nature and good company? Thank you for your feedback!
Joanna P. Mar 2014
Eva's cottage is the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation and a retreat to nature. The amenities were perfect - we cooked essentially all of our meals for a week and found all that we needed. We also appreciated the games, books, fireplace and hot tub. We found multiple satisfying hikes nearby (thanks to the Curious Gorge book provided.) We'd highly recommend a stay here!
Kyle F. Feb 2014
We were lucky to enjoy a perfect Valentines weekend in Eva's cottage. Everything we needed was there and the views from all around couldn't be beat.
Dave S. Feb 2014
This home's setting is wonderful for a personal retreat.
Amber M. Jan 2014
We loved our stay at Eva's! The cottage is exactly as pictured - beautiful, clean, comfy. We had lots of clean linens to stay warm and dry, cool books to read (and we loved all the guidebooks with suggestions for local hikes!), and a gorgeous kitchen to enjoy our meals in each day. Late at night, we then cozied up by the fire and took advantage of the lovely TV + Netflix to watch marathons of our favorite shows and catch up on some classic movies.

And words cannot fully describe the beauty and perfection of the moment spent watching the sun set while relaxing in the hot tub. It is magical! Another favorite memory is having coffee and pastries in the kitchen one morning, and seeing a couple of deer wander close to the cottage!

Our city dog enjoyed her visit as well and loved jumping in the river. We all can't wait to return!
Clint S. Jan 2014
My wife and I had high hopes from the pictures we saw online, but we re really blown away when we arrived. The cottage is beautiful, cozy, private, and the surrounding area is gorgeous to walk around and explore. The fully-furnished kitchen, bathroom and bedroom made our stay incredibly relaxing and peaceful. The TV with internet capabilities was an added bonus, as we were able to watch some Netflix and put on some music while we were hanging out. The hot tub out back was really the highlight which was great to have during the rainy days especially, as the combination of cold rain and hot hottub is just about the greatest thing ever.
We were eager to tell our friends and family about our trip, but the place is so magical that we're tempted to just keep it to ourselves!
But needless to say, yes we highly recommend Eva's Cottage. The place is a real treasure.

My boyfriend (now fiancé, hurray Eva's Cottage!) stayed here from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day and I am hard pressed to think of a more relaxing way to have spent the holidays. We were somewhat apprehensive about booking a holiday stay at a new-to-us spot somewhat removed from civilization but a 15-minute pre-booking call with Caretaker Rose left all my concerns at the door. The cabin is impeccably kept and truly arranged for whatever you might be up for. Should you forget any basic supplies (or develop a sudden craving for Cheetos...whatever), the nearby town is close enough to be convenient but far enough to not be a daily event. In short...perfect. The kitchen was outfitted for whatever we felt like making that day; there was a fresh drop of firewood right before we arrived so we were sure to stay cozy during our stay; there's an Apple TV connected to the living room set and DVD & Blu-ray players connected to the bedroom set. The waterfall is visible from the living room and you can hear the river from every room in the house but not in an obnoxious way. There are mild rapids both up and downstream, yet it's a lazy run as it goes by the house. Again...the only word is perfect. Tall proud trees keep an eye on the hot tub. Families of deer explore the grounds. I found an awesome rock. I can't wait to see the house and land in the summer because the river looked to be a tremendous swimming spot. We live in SE Portland - the drive was under an hour door to door but it felt like we were worlds away. Thank you Eva's Cottage!
Manager response:
Congratulations to your big engagement! We are very happy that you enjoyed the home and area so much. More importantly, we wish you all the best for your lives together and we hope that you will be able to visit Eva's Cottage again, where it all started! Thanks and all the best from us at Vacasa.
Eric K. Dec 2013
We stayed for our 27th anniversary and even though it rained the entire time, we enjoyed our time so much. We spent time playing games on the kitchen table with the amazing view of the river, reading and watching movies. There is no TV reception and the TV/DVD in the bedroom is a little awkward to watch. But there is a monitor in the living room where you can stream movies. Plenty of firewood is provided and we made good use of it. We plan on returning in the summer and take advantage of the swimming hole and the hiking opportunities. Can't wait to go back.
Beth B. Nov 2013
This little cabin is a wonderful spot to cuddle up in front of the fire, relax in the hot tub or go for a contemplative walk in the woods. The sound of the river is so soothing. Enjoyed every second!
Tammie M. Oct 2013
We highly enjoyed all the hiking in the area. Our dog was very welcomed and loved the beach access. The cabin was very clean and comfortable.
DeAnne D. Sep 2013
Our third visit to Eva's Cottage. We love it for our kick-back, do nothing vacation retreat. We enjoyed sitting on the covered porch, watching the fish jump and feed. As you arrive up the private wooded drive, you will see a cute cabin in a wonderful setting along the river. The home is clean, updated and has everything you need for a relaxing get away. We highly recommend for a quiet couples get away.
Manager response:
Wonderful having you again! Thanks so much!
Nicole P. Sep 2013
Upon arrival we were very bummed because there were no flowers, wine or breakfast fixings greeting us :(, so we were one bottle of wine and one breakfast short and were forced to immediately head back into town, which kind of stunk. But overall the house was cozy and beautiful. The fully furnished kitchen (with 5 different coffee makers to boot!) was a pleasure to have on site.. as was the amazing 2 person jacuzzi in the back. I highly recommend this property for your weekend away from it all (granted you bring enough groceries!) I wish that we were able to stay longer than the weekend, there is so much exploring I would have loved to do. I will definitely be booking a 4 day stay in the future!
Manager response:
Glad you had a good time! We'll track down that reference to wine and breakfast you saw -- sorry it doesn't apply to Eva's Cottage now - thanks for the heads up!
Melissa R. Sep 2013
Eva's Cottage is a beautiful accommodation on the banks of a wonderful swimming hole. The interior has been remodelled and is beautiful, but still retains the rustic charm of a cabin in the woods. Having said that, you need to take narrow twisty roads to get to the cabin. If you are looking for a place to unplug and get away from it all, this is a wonderful choice. If you are hoping to use this place as a base for day trips, you would be better served staying on the Oregon side of the river where you would have access easier access to the interstate.
Cliff J. Jul 2013
We had the most incredible weekend at Eva's cabin! If you're looking for a quiet retreat to get away from it all, then this is the place for you. The beach and the river front was incredibly beautiful and had the perfect little swimming hole. The hot tub on the back deck overlooking the river was really great. Easy access to lots of hiking and was only a 45 minute drive from Portland. I highly recommend this place.
Manager response:
So glad you enjoyed your stay! Come back any time!
Bryce G. May 2013
We rented the cabin for my birthday weekend thinking we could kill two birds with one stone. Excellent family getaway and fishing out the front door. Upon arrival we learned the river is closed to angling on that stretch if river. What??? I did not see that on the website. Also the hot tub wasn't ready to be used and I DID see that advertised. We made the best of it. The forest is as green and beautiful as is possible. You kinda expect hair to sprout on the top of your feet and start smoking a long pipe waiting for Gandalf to drop by. All in all it's a great little cabin that has been updated by the owner beautifully. It's well worth the trip.
Jay T. Apr 2013
My husband and I needed a weekend away after recently having to say goodbye to our beloved dog. We were looking for a place to rest and heal. Eva's cottage is a rare find. The beautiful view and constantly audible sound of the river and falls were so good for the soul. It is even more beautiful than the pictures can really capture. We were able to totally unplug (no phones, computer, tv, even radio) and just listen to the sounds of nature. It allows us to reconnect to each other, to our selves and to nature. The cottage itself is cute and cozy and a great spot for a quiet getaway. We will definitely be back!
