Cozy dog-friendly bungalow w/ outdoor kitchen - walk to restaurants & parks!

Experience the timeless character of San Diego at this dog-friendly, two-bedroom bungalow, a charming and eclectic getaway with a classic front porch, a private back patio and outdoor kitchen, and a wonderfully walkable location close to parks, restaurants, and neighborhood entertainment.

This cheerful cottage is located in University Heights, just two blocks from the grassy expanse (and popular summer concerts) at Old Trolley Barn Park. You'll be within a short stroll of neighborhood restaurants, two miles north of Balboa Park and the world-famous San Diego Zoo, and four miles from the Gaslamp Quarter.

The living space is full of craftsman details and whimsical decor, from lovely built-ins to a playful collection of wall art. Spend your days riding bikes around the city and return home to relax on one of the sofas, watch a few cable shows on the flatscreen TV, or take a seat on the front porch and watch the world go by.

Spin a record on the turntable and begin dinner preparations in the full kitchen, where you'll find a broad selection of culinary tools on the pegboard wall. Whip up some fresh vegetable dishes with ingredients from the Sprouts Farmers Market, and sit down to enjoy them in the dining room for four.

But you'll have few incentives to remain indoors with such a beautiful stone patio waiting out back. Escape the summer sun under the canopies, use the stainless steel gas grill and outdoor kitchen to prepare summer barbecues, and enjoy balmy nights under the stars at the patio table.

With two bedrooms and one full bathroom, this San Diego bungalow can accommodate as many as six guests (but no more than four adults). The first bedroom has a comfortable queen-size bed with plenty of drawer space underneath, while the guest bedroom has a second flatscreen TV that conceals a queen-size Murphy bed behind it.

Two twin-size futons provide additional sleeping space. And you'll have no problem making dinner reservations, planning outdoor adventures, or even catching up on a bit of work thanks to the in-home WiFi. Plus, you'll be able to bring along one dog if you like, but keep in mind that a pet fee applies.

Known and loved across the United States for its fantastic year-round weather and laid-back atmosphere, San Diego is the perfect place for a fun-filled family vacation or an easy getaway with friends. Walk to Mystic Mocha each morning for breakfast, plan an afternoon picnic at Trolley Barn Park, and spend an evening or two enjoying drinks and dinner in the Gaslamp Quarter.

And no trip to this sun-filled city would be complete without a visit to the San Diego Zoo, where you can spend days learning about the 3,500 rare and endangered animals and 700,000 exotic plants that make their home at this stunning 100-acre facility.

It's always summer in San Diego - begin planning your Southern California escape today!

Loved the patio and full kitchen. Sleeping arrangements were great.

Loved the location (though it gets loud out front at night) as it is on a small street right next to town. There are a bunch of great restaurants and fun bars just a stones throw. The beds are super comfy and I would give it 5 stars except that my girls had to sleep on the floor of our room since the futons are not really movable. We had planned on putting the futons in the bedroom with us so we could use the living room after kids were in bed but they were too heavy and too big. Our fault for not checking first with the management.

The house suited our needs very well. The kitchen is nicely stocked. The beds in the two bedrooms are very comfortable and linens are clean and fresh. The futons in the dining and living room are not very comfortable for adults to sleep on but work okay for small children. However, best part of house by far is the outdoor space. I recommend this house.

This place was perfect!!!!
Husband & I used to live in San Diego for 8 years,
We moved back up north about 2 years now and recently had our first child so
We decided to celebrate our 9 year anniversary with our San Diego Family and introduce them our first child!
This little gem was clean, comfy and provided everything we needed ! The neighborhood was quiet, neighbors were so friendly and your located right in the heart of Univeristy Heights, close to great restaurants, good coffee and brews!!
We definitely look forward to booking this beautiful home again!!

My husband and I stayed here for a few days with our three year old twins. The location was perfect - so much to walk to and a wonderful park with playground just a block away. Really hope to stay here again on our next visit.

This house was incredible! Very well maintained with everything you need! The mattress was extremely comfortable and there were plenty of children's books and toys to keep my little ones occupied. The outside BBQ and patio was beautiful! New grill and outdoor kitchen with a very well maintained garden to make you feel like you are in paradise. Property manager was very easy to get a hold of and the house is within walking distance to quite a few restaurants. Good ones too! The house wasn't too hard to find and you get 2 parking spots which is very difficult in this area. Would absolutely recommend this house.

Our family and pup had a lovely "Staycation" here while we tented our local home for termites. Though the tenting process is onerous, this actually turned into a lovely few days away...and all because of this charming, warm home. You sense the character and happiness that exudes from this cottage!

Very comfortable, and clean place. The location is ideal, where it's not too far from downtown, North Park and Balboa Park.

A perfect place for our family of 3. Comfortable, quiet and safe. Easily the cleanest place we have ever stayed. We hope to stay here again in the future.

Our stay was a better than expected. The house is as cute as a button, well decorated, plenty of beds. The master bed the best we've ever slept on. Landscaping beautiful and location is central. Cute eateries in walking distance but close to main interstates. And very clean!

The house is cozy and very clean. Located in the heart of University Heights. The back yard is excellent to spend the evening with family or friends.

We loved our stay at the Spalding Place Getaway. They home is on a back street - almost an alley- but the neighborhood appeared very safe. The house is very cute - a perfect fit for the 4 of us. Clear attention had been paid to little details in every room. Outdoor space is very nice. Only thing missing is washer and dryer- would have liked to do laundry at least once. Very easy check out process which was great since we had an early flight.

Perfect location, great house. Within a block or two of great restaurants, bars, and cute park. 10-20 minutes drive from all SD sites.

We loved staying at the Spalding Getaway! The location was wonderful. My husband and I enjoyed taking our morning runs through the various neighborhoods in the area. We liked that dinner was just a short walk away, or that we could enjoy dinner on the lovely patio. It's very convenient to freeways to get to all the other spots we wanted to visit including Sea World, Coronado, and Stone Brewery at Liberty Station. The beds were also some of the most comfortable we've slept in at a vacation rental! Great spot!

We stayed at this adorable house for Spring Break with our 2 young kids. We did not know San Diego at all prior to booking, and took a chance with location. We were not disappointed. We loved being able to walk to the ecclectic little restaurants and coffee shops. The Thai restaurant is so close you can smell it from the backyard...which just made us want Thai food for every meal! Balboa park is practically walkable and where we spent much of our time. In fact, if you are traveling with kids, skip Legoland (lame) and spend more time there. We wish we had done this. The backyard is to die for and we enjoyed escaping our dreary Oregon weather. We'll be back for sure!

It was my 1st time in San Diego with my family, we were in all 4 adults and 2 kids (7&9) and it was a great spot! This place was very clean and spacious, having the backyard as an option to hangout for your am coffee or late afternoon chilling before supper made thing much more comfortable for everyone and spacious. The kitchen was fully equipped, we made a few snacks and meals there, dishwasher was handy to have there!
Close enough to the beaches ( 15 to 30 minutes away) but driving is a pleasure as you soak in the beautiful landscape and view. I fell in love with San Diego and would stay here again with my family!

Everything was perfect. I will definitely stay here again.

House is in an extremely quiet, peaceful area, very friendly neighbors, very close to everything..... Walking distance to awesome coffee shops and restaurants. Very, very clean and well furnished....Quaint, lots of character. A gem. We will definitely be back. Fell in love with the house.

We travel to San Diego twice a year from Marin County. By far, the best place we've stayed.
The house is tucked away in an ally with all the other homes which gives you the sense of a community, and yet within a few yards from the front door, there are plethora of restaurants and coffee shops to chose from. Go and visit all of them!!
The house is incredibly charming and precious. It is a wonderful spot to be creative and definitely makes you feel at home.
If you love to cook, this is the place for you. The house has an endless supply of every types of pots and pans, plate and glassware, the stove range is for some serious cooking……. and this doesn't end here. The back yard is equipped with a kitchen for out door grilling and fun. The space is private and cozy surrounded by beautiful succulents thriving in their planter box.
Unfortunately, we didn't get to use this space due to the storm and rain for 7 days straight.
We can't wait to get back
