Charming, dog-friendly, Mt. Hood cabin with firepit and hot tub!

Nestled among towering Douglas fir trees in a secluded woodland area, this Welches vacation rental offers a relaxing space and a private hot tub to reconnect with your loved ones with few distractions and plenty of natural beauty. Your family dogs are even welcome to join you for your stay.

For quick access to Mt. Hood's ski resorts - Timberline, Mt. Hood Meadows, and Ski Bowl - you can't find a better location than where this home resides in Welches. Plus, miles of hiking trails, fly fishing, kayaking and more lie nearby in the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness, so prepare to get outdoors!

While cozy enough for an intimate group of friends or family, the two-story, three-bedroom Red Stone Cabin is deceptively large and can comfortably accommodate a group of up to eight guests.

An open floor plan, mountain decor, and warm woods throughout offer a rustic yet comforting appeal. The open and spacious great room boasts sky-high ceilings and is the perfect gathering place for game night or happy hour before dinner. An authentic gas fireplace disguised as a wood stove is set back in a custom stone inlay and produces an inviting glow.

The comfortable living room beckons you to come, sit, and relax. There's a Blu-ray DVD player for a quiet movie night with friends. Or, pop in the mix CD you made for the trip to initiate an all family dance off! There is also WiFi so you'll be able to stay in touch during your Mt. Hood getaway.

A bright white and welcoming kitchen is well-stocked and ready for any culinary dish you wish to create, while the dishwasher makes clean-up a breeze (we don't want you to rough it TOO much!). Ample counter space and an eat-in bar has seating for all and makes this an ideal spot for entertaining and catching up with the cooks while they prep.

The bedrooms are arranged on one side of the home, away from the living spaces, allowing those who tucker out more quickly than others to peacefully retreat into dreamtime while the others linger over a bottle of wine and a long conversation. Two bedrooms will be found on the lower level - one with two double beds with a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, the other with one queen bed.

Upstairs, the third bedroom holds a queen-size bed set back in a wooden enclave that will envelope you in rustic mountain ambiance. If you do choose to bring two dogs, there is just an additional fee. Perfect for up to eight guests, you will also have a private washer and dryer during your stay.

The star feature of the Red Stone Cabin will be your own private outdoor firepit and private hot tub in the back yard: a perfect place to swap stories passed down by generations while you roast marshmallows under the moonlight or hang out on the large deck. Please note that due to forest fire risks and local ordinance, campfires aren't allowed from June - September.

This cozy cabin offers gorgeous views of Huckleberry Mountain that will entice the explorer at heart to come out and play. And what a playground you'll find in the Mt. Hood National Forest! Redstone is just 20-35 minutes from prime skiing or snowboarding at SkiBowl, Meadows, or Timberline, as well as stellar hiking through the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness area, and over 70 miles of trailheads.

For the fisherman or woman, the Salmon River is an excellent source of steelhead and chinook and coho salmon. The home is also adjacent to the Resort at the Mountain for excellent golfing, while a variety of restaurants and shops lie within a few minutes drive from the home.

Whether you're interested in a romantic couples' getaway, family reunion, writing or artists' retreat, or simply a much needed escape from the hustle and bustle of the work world, this three-bedroom Mt. Hood vacation cabin rental will be your haven in the woods. A damage waiver, covering up to $2,000 of accidental damage to the property or its contents, is included in the cost of your reservation.

*Effective 7/27/2020, due to local fire danger levels, there is an open fire ban in the area. No open flames are allowed out of doors, including no campfires, warming fires, cooking fires or ceremonial fires. Fires are prohibited in all campgrounds and other sites with developed fire pits.

10 minutes from the river beautiful rustic home lots of space to entertain and enjoy family time

My friends and I had a lovely time at this cabin. The hot tub was fantastic and having two bathrooms was great for 4 girls! The cabin was set back in the trees but close enough to the highway that driving to Mt. Hood was very easy.

This cabin is in a really neat place. When you go down the driveway you are in your own little oasis of lush greenery but you are just moments away from town too! The cabin is so cute inside and feels so much bigger than you would anticipate. Lots of counter space and a huge island provided plenty of room for all of our party snacks! The hot tub was really clean and with all the trees surrounding the property it is completely private. We hope to return in the winter to enjoy the fireplace and fire pit for a totally different feeling experience. The driveway is steep though so in the winter you would need a 4-wheel drive if there is snow/ice.

Nice getaway during isolation.

I stayed the weekend with some gal pals and it was the perfect size and layout for a few days of relaxing, making meals and playing games. We especially enjoyed the hot tub and gas fireplace. Thanks!

We really enjoyed our stay at Red Stone Cabin. The house was well equipped to suit all of our needs - entertainment, culinary, sleep! It’s not your luxury cabin by any means but has a lot of charm. It was really musty smelling at first but you get used to it and the place was clean with lots of bedding. The carpet and couch are definitely “pet friendly” - leave socks on or it’ll feel a bit crispy under foot. Not ideal but totally worth enduring for the bonus of being able to have our dogs with us. The main chandelier lights flicker, some even when off! One of the beds in the double bedroom was unbearably squeaky but no problem if not moving. Ha! The outside fencing and gate need replacing in a desperate way and there is a precarious step outside that could use a solar light to help identify better. All that being said, we played games, baked cakes, took nearby hikes, came back, cozied up by the fire and had a thoroughly good time!
Shari W. Aug 2019
We loved how it was big and open. Next time would be nice to bring more people!
Tamra R. Jul 2019
Great cabin! Perfect for our family of 5 and 2 dogs. Our kids didn’t want to leave and already want to go back! Couldn’t have had a better stay.
KElly D. Jun 2019
This cabin makes you feel you are alone in a remote forest, yet is super convenient to get to and close to a store if you forget or need anything. You can veg out and unplug or still enjoy TV and WiFi. It's also close to hiking and a river that is fun to visit. It's the best of all worlds! I never even see spiders inside!!! I LOVE this place! SUPER clean and comfortable!

Enjoyed the open layout and a view of the mountain. Loved the hot tub! Would come back again
Kaili H. Jan 2019
We loved our stay at the Red Stone Cabin. Beds were decent, amenities plentiful, and living space ample for our needs. A couple things to note: oven was replaced and works fine (albeit slow); coffee maker needs to be scrubbed with Puro Caff, but luckily they had two, so we were able to pull out the glass one; the driveway was able to fit all of our 5 cars; and if you cook a lot, you might want to bring your own pans for quality and ease. Notwithstanding, this was a wonderful place to call home while snowshoeing up the highway and hiking the Salmon River Trail. Finally, if you feel like karaoke one night, go see Bill and Dave at the Whistle Stop! What an amazing night. :) We would definitely rent this place again on another trip.
Randy M. Jan 2019
We loved having all the amenities provided so all we had to do was arrive and start enjoying the cabin
Jessie R. Dec 2018
The cabin was clean, cozy and well equipped for a family getaway! We loved the gas fireplace, the open living space and the flexibility the location provides...definitely planning another trip back soon!
Gladys O. Nov 2018
This house was perfect for our little getaway. The couch was cozy and the size of each room was perfect! Great for families! We would stay here again!
Nichole S. Oct 2018
This was exactly what we needed... a relaxing getaway in a cozy home with everything we needed and a very private setting. The hot tub and quiet natural atmosphere added the perfect setting to our week! The kitchen and bathrooms were fully stocked and had everything we needed other than our own food/drinks. Comfortable furniture and plenty of blankets... event thought he heat provided enough warmth for us all.
I do give this a 5 star and will most likely be back to this cabin... we have rented several in the area over the years and this was, by far, our favorite.
However, a couple things to note:
The oven did not work, as previously mentioned by a reviewer, but after calling the manager, he said they would take care of it. He offered us a counter-top unit for the rest of our stay in the mean time, which was nice and accommodating, but we did not need it any longer.
There is very minimal seating outside on the wonderfully large deck... we will remember to bring our won chairs next time.
The lighting was fairly dim the entire time and the dimmer switches do not work, they only flicker when you try to adjust them.
All that being said... none of those things were major enough to ruin our time there one bit! Loved every minute of it! and can't wait to go back!
Brett G. Sep 2018
The cabin was clean and comfortable with pretty much everything you need wot the exception of a working oven. This did throw our plans off as part of our family trips include cooking and sharing meals. It would have been nice to know in advance that it didn't work since we were planning to use it a couple times. Other then that it was a nice stay
Humberto L. Aug 2018
Very clean, quiet and close enough to everything
Brandon L. Jul 2018
It’s small but very open. Easily fit our family of 8 (four adults and four children). The cell service is terrible but there is WiFi (not the best). The house is completely stocked and the hot tub was very clean. The house is hidden and completely fenced in. The only complaint is the laundry room (which is in its own section of the house and completely walled off) smelled of mold. Overall, great place to stay and will do so again soon!
Brad C. Mar 2018
Overall the experience was very good. Hot tub work great and overall cleanliness was a nine out of 10. A couple of little things that needed to be fixed around the cabin to give this a five star rating. Washing machine had mildew in required bleaching or replacement of outdoor seal. Dryer had a button missing but was still usable. Lower small bedroom had a strange odor But our party was small enough that we didn’t need to use this room. Everything else was fantastic. Would recommend this cabin to other families and would definitely come back here again In the future!
Madeline O. Feb 2018
Nice cabin in a great location!
Rachel D. Jan 2018
This cabin was the perfect spot to relax and spend time with friends; It's not too far from Portland but made our day trips up the mountain way more convenient.
Kimberly B. Jan 2018
Stayed here with a few friends for NYE. House was very nice, clean, and felt secluded even though it's a quick drive to the grocery store and to the ski resorts. They had many games, the kitchen table and living room was perfect for a group of people, comfortable beds, and plenty of towels for showers and the hot tub, which was great to relax in after a day of snowshoeing. Kitchen was a little sparse and the two can openers they had were both broken (good thing we had a Swiss army knife!) Overall a nice mountain getaway.
Aryka H. Dec 2017
Amazing house!
Savannah L. Oct 2017
The cabin was about 5 minutes down the road from the entrance to the national forest. The entire area is BEAUTIFUL. So much wildlife, even in the backyard. Loved it :)

The cabin in in between 2 roads which initially seemed like a downfall but there was next to no traffic noise so it wasn't an issue for us. Loved the hot tub, the town was great when we needed anything, and we will be coming back :)
Cassidy M. Oct 2017
Wonderful cabin! Private, good location, beautiful natural landscape, hot tub is a must:)
Emily R. Sep 2017
This cabin was a nice place to stay while attending a nearby conference.
William C. Sep 2017
We really enjoyed staying at this cabin, it worked out perfectly for 3 couples with a couple kids and dogs thrown in the mix. The location was great for hanging out at the resort, and we found the house to be in great shape with plenty of room.
Kathy G. Sep 2017
It's hard to find pet friendly accommodations like this. We loved the casual furnishings that weren't so nice that we felt we had to constantly worry about our dog having an accident or getting anything dirty. There was very little "dog smell," certainly nothing offensive, and obviously something to be expected at a place like this. I also appreciated that the linens and towels aren't washed with a strongly-scented detergent - they left us All Free and Clear unscented to use, and must use that on the linens. I am sensitive to smells and usually can hardly stand to sleep in beds because of smell of the sheets, usually washed in something like Tide, which is sickly sweet and leaves a lingering scent that you can't wash out. The deck is large and very private, and if you come in nice weather bring lawn chairs - there weren't any at the cabin. There is a certain amount of road noise from the two roads that the cabin sits between, but it wasn't enough to keep any of our party awake. The daytime temperature when we were there was nearly 95, but the cabin stayed much much cooler than that - a wonderful feature. Also, if it's good weather, bring your own towels and make your way up the road a ways to swim in the river - it was delicious.
Manager response:
We are happy to see this guest enjoyed their stay and apologize if they missed the outdoor sitting chairs. Thanks!
Julian B. Sep 2017
Really enjoyed this rustic, comfortable cabin-like space with beautiful views onto trees and a nice hot tub. Fun touches like skis and a snowshoe mounted on the walls. Great to have meals at the counter and relax on the sofa or retreat to the upstairs bedroom. My friends and I enjoyed staying there.
Jenny P. Aug 2017
We enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It was cozy and had everything we needed for our stay. The hot tub was a nice thing to have after a long hike. The house inside is a little dated and some of the beds were not very comfortable but we still had a very nice vacation. It's very close to the Old Salmon Trail so the location was perfect.
Lindsey M. Aug 2017
Great house, beautiful location!
Christie F. Jul 2017
This cabin is In a great location. It was very clean but is prettty old. The couch smelled like wet dog and like others have said, the home has a musty smell. The washer was nice to have but also has a musty smell. The kitchen is well stocked and the layout of the home is nice. We enjoyed the fire pit but the jacuzzi seemed to need more chemicals.
Manager response:
We are disappointed to see this guest encountered unpleasant odors during their stay. The home has a newer front-loading washer and dryer that are left open so they can dry out and not mildew. Our team is very diligent to keep the hot tub chemicals dialed and stock shock containers for guests to add during their stay. The water in this community is fresh water so it may appear a bit green due to minerals. Thanks!
Elizabeth D. Jul 2017
This is a cozy lovely home in the trees! We will be back!
Marilyn S. Jul 2017
Nice location, good for lots of mountain fun like hiking, fishing, alpine slides
Pam P. Feb 2017
had great weekend in cabin. plenty room for 8! nice to have hot tub after playing in snow all day!
Michael H. Dec 2016
The cabin was charming, driveway is indeed steep so be prepared. There was more than enough room for our family of 5 people who stayed.
Kristen M. Oct 2016
The Red Cabin in Welches is a cute place. There had been plenty of sleeping room; seems like it would be a great place to bring friends or a family to get away for a weekend. Had been worried about wifi, as previous reviews had said the service was shoty. However, always had wifi, but AT&T had service in and out. It was a rainy weekend, therefore, not sure if the musty smell was from that. I doubt it, I've been to homes that have a constant musty smell, and that's probably the case with this place. My husband thinks the couch had a "wet-dog" smell. It did somewhat, with a few slobber spots as well. The hot tub was great, along with the fire place. Had everything we needed to survive in a home like environment. Only needed a mop to clean up after we tracked mud and rain in constantly. I will say that the floor had already seemed a tad dirty when we arrived. Also, the stand up shower door had been leaking water. The door just needed to be re-aligned. Would we stay here again? Probably not, unless we couldn't find something better!
Timothy D. Oct 2016
When we arrived, the gas stove was on and welcoming. The house is large and clean, HOWEVER the beds were horribly uncomfortable, like sleeping on plywood. Our flannel sheets smelled of mold and when we opened the washing machine, we could tell why. The house seemed very dark at night, light bulbs in almost all rooms need to be brighter. Because we value a good night's sleep, we cannot recommend this home.
Manager response:
We are very sorry that the washing machine was causing the linens to smell moldy; a cleaning agent has been used in the washer which has helped the matter. Some lights throughout the home are on a dimmer and that could have been the cause of the dull lighting. Thanks!
Ava M. Sep 2016
Reasonably priced. We liked the hot tub & roominess.
Adrienne D. Aug 2016
This location was perfect, the house was great, the beds were terrible! The two queen beds have IKEA foam mattresses that are almost as hard as a box spring, and I am not exaggerating. Fortunately there were inner spring mattresses under some of the beds, and that is what we used. Hopefully the owners just ordered these and don't realize what they have placed in the house, as no one would find these acceptable. We loved that we could not see the other houses around us, that it was very quiet, and the scenery was beautiful. We did not like that we found out the grill was not operational until after we bought steaks. The WiFi is spotty, but that can't be helped in the mountains. If it went down, it was back up within a few minutes. The kitchen was very adequately stocked, and the dishwasher worked great. The fireplace is not currently working, so I would be very hesitant to rent this home during the winter as it is the main source of heat. The two downstairs bedrooms have baseboard heaters, but the main part of the house is very chilly, even in summer, without a major heat source. The bed configuration is a little odd in that the bedroom with the attached bathroom had two fulls, while the upstairs bedroom has a queen. So the parents were the ones coming downstairs in the middle of the night. We knew that going in, but you will want to be aware of that configuration. Overall, if they fix the mattress problem, we would not hesitate to stay there again in the summer.
RYAN M. Jul 2016
Wow this place was worth every penny. First off it's a bit hard to find as the house is hidden in the trees but once we did find the drive way we were pleasantly surprised how private it felt. The outside wrap around deck was perfect for mornings sipping coffe and doing a lil outdoor yoga. Hot tub was clean and private. The in side was cozy and had tons of space, all the appliances were working and there were plenty of things to use for cooking. Washer and dryer looked fairly new and fresh. There were tons of amazing hikes with in a very short drive and a market that had everything we needed right down the street.
Our only gripe if you can even call it that was that there were no ice trays in the freezer. And the Internet was pretty bad at night and when the clouds were thick. I only mention the bad wifi because if you need to do work like us you may have troubles. If anything it helped keep us away from our phones and computers and apreaciate our time there more though so really complain. Highly recommend this place my girlfriend loves it too!
Deborah C. Jul 2016
I was looking for somewhere quiet to spend the July 4th weekend with my fur-babies. This was a great location. I was able to hear some distant booms but it was far more peaceful than spending the 4th in the city!
Sid N. Jun 2016
We had such a lovely time at this cabin. It's clean and cozy and exactly what we were looking for. There's also great hiking nearby. We slept like babies and had a great time!
Brenda E. Apr 2016
Warm & welcoming place to rest our heads & relax. For our last Hara on Mt. hood 2016!
Harold K. Mar 2016
Great place to stay, great price, and great location. Have absolutely no complaints. I do reccomend.
Jessica F. Mar 2016
The cabin was wonderful overall. The decor is lovely and it has a warm, cozy feeling but with an open layout. This cabin is a stone's throw from the salmon river trail, one of Mt Hood's loveliest old growth wonderlands. Although there are other houses nearby, you don't see them and feel only surrounded by trees when relaxing in the hot tub, or sitting in the living room gazing out the windows. It is a wonderful space. It can sleep up to 8 but was also the perfect size for 2 couples.
Carlee M. Feb 2016
We really enjoyed our stay over my birthday weekend. I love that they give you discounted lift tickets to Meadows. The hot tub was great and the wide open lay out was fun with friends. Definitely be back!
Tammy C. Jan 2016
Great location for snow seekers
Samuel M. Jan 2016
First off I'll say that we stay in a different cabin each year in the Mt. Hood Village area, and they all have their quirks. Unfortunately, this one just had too many for my liking.

The bedroom layout is very odd, with the master on the main level with two double beds. The upstairs bedroom has a queen but no bathroom, and no heat! The provided space heater did a decent job, but we found it to either be too hot or too cold. The microwave overheated on us and started outputting an awful smell, and we had to unplug it and put it outside. The cable remote was broken (others were missing batteries), and there is no way to change the channel from the cable box. The wifi was terribly spotty and there is no cell service otherwise. No guest book was ever able to be located. I'm usually pretty tolerant and these are all things I can deal with, but they add up.

The biggest (and most surprising) issue was the lack of useful kitchen supplies. There are pans but no lids (that fit, anyway), and not even basics like salt & pepper or cooking oil. The latter items are never guaranteed, but usually there a few basics and in this case there wasn't a single item.

That all makes it sound like we had a terrible stay, and we didn't. The gas wood stove is really nice and the open layout is great. The big sectional couch is super comfy, and the hot tub was perfect. The location was really convenient to all the fun stuff in the area, including a grocery store, some cool restaurants and of course, all the skiing one could hope for. Despite everything we had a great time, but suffice it to say we're still on the hunt for our favorite Mt. Hood vacation rental.
Charlee A. Dec 2015
Beautiful house very clean and it was so nice the housekeeping had the gas fireplace going when we arrived and it was very warm. My family had a wonderful time and would totally recommend and stay here again! Thank you!
Anne C. Sep 2014
There were so many nice touches - soaps in the bathroom and showers, every type of dishes, well labeled cupboards and light switches. It was a great place to refill our cups after the business of the previous travel days.
Manager response:
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Please come visit again soon.
Valerie L. Sep 2014
This was the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing getaway. There's plenty to do nearby but the cabin offers a comfortable, private location to just relax and enjoy the quiet.
Peri K. Aug 2013
We stayed here last year, too. We like the number of beds and the open design of the cabin - lots of room to move around. The deck area is good. What we really appreciate is all of the kitchen items at our disposal - coffee maker, microwave, tons of pots/pans, etc. It is also a good launch place for wandering around the beautiful Mt. Hood area.
Deirdre M. Jul 2013
Bathroom layout not ideal unless you are one big happy family. (Only one bath available without walking through a bedroom.) Otherwise very pleasant.
maran g. Mar 2013
The maintenance staffs were really helpful. We came prepared for grilling and saw that the BBQ equipment ran out of propane. Soon after a call this was immediately fixed and everything was ready when we came back in the evening. We stayed here for couple of nights and its perfect stay for a group of 10. Kids really enjoyed and the property was well furnished with lots of stuff in the kitchen, clean towels in plenty.
Jonathan H. Dec 2012
Wonderful cabin with a nice layout. Blankets, pillows, and a full kitchen already provided. Showers were wonderful after two full days of playing on Mt. Hood. Only 20-25 minutes from Mt. Hood Meadows, and even closer to the the other resorts.

Highly recommend and will return again. We had a full 10 people and still plenty of room.
Joni A. Sep 2012
Large cabin with plenty of space and well stocked kitchen for cooking, and the binder listing hikes around the area was terrific. Very private location.
Donna P. Jul 2012
Our stay was so very nice! We loved the privacy of this property.
Krissy G. Feb 2012
We really loved this cabin, it was exactly how I had hoped it would be. Very comfortable. We intertubed at Government Camp, roasted marshmellows around the fire pit, and just really relaxed and enjoyed ourselves!
Tim L. Dec 2011
We really enjoyed the house and location. Having the fireplace going when we arrived really started our stay off right. It was a very comfortable homey house with everything we needed. More snow would have been nice :):)
Deborah K. Jul 2011
This is a delightful large cabin about 12 miles from Mt. Hood (Government Camp). A large kitchen, well stocked with dishes and appliances. A large open living/kitchen area, perfect for a gathering of probably 4-10 people. The only problem we had was not being able to get the gas fireplace lit, which was the main source of heat for the house. The management was not able to get anyone to come out to fix this problem for the length of our 48 hour stay. Fortunately, the weather was warm enough so this was not as much of a problem for us, though a fire would have been a nice addition. There are several restaurants in the area as well as a large resort that offers a golf course and a fine restaurant. I would recommend this lovely cabin as a family retreat or to those who want to stay in the beautiful Mt. Hood area.
Bryan B. Jul 2011
This was a wonderful place for our family to gather. Very kid-friendly with just the right amount of space for our two families. Two of the beds were very creaky, though. Loved the proximity to the Salmon River recreation area and the location was quiet. Thank you for sharing your space!
Robert and Kristen B. Jun 2011
We celebrated my daughters upcoming wedding. The house was so comfortable.Very spacious with homey decor. We hiked around Mirror Lake and ate at The Rondevouz restaurant. And the weather was amazingly sunny! We all agreed to come back and enjoy a winter holiday. It was a very memorable stay for us.Thankyou!
Dixie R. Jun 2011
My son and I take his two sons to this cabin (our 2nd time)and it is great for the two boys. They feel at home there.
Tosh P. May 2011
This Cabin was our home base during our anual end of the year skiing photoshoot at timberline. It is close to the main road and the grocery store as well as several good places to grab a bite to eat. Would recomend this home to friends coming up for similar reasons.
Lisa H. Mar 2011
Great house! It was just two of us, but this would be a great house for a group of people. I need to stay here again in the summer to enjoy the great secluded deck and firepit!
Bobbie M. Feb 2011
The home was very nice. My concerns were the carpets need to be more secure. Tripping hazard. Master bedroom should have 1 king bed. It would open it up.If there was snow in driveway. It would have been a concern getting in and out safely. We loved the house inside and out. Thank you and we look forward to staying again.
