Dog-friendly oceanview home w/ large fenced yard - walk to the beach!
This comfortable Otter Rock rental is an ideal home base for families and small groups looking for a quiet Oregon Coast getaway with nearby beach access. Up to two dogs are welcome, too!
Located in a quiet neighborhood just adjacent to Devils Punchbowl, this two-story home puts you mere steps away from the beach and a seasonal Mo's restaurant and eight miles from grocery shopping in Newport. You can walk down the long staircase to reach the sandy shore about a block away, though visitors who prefer to avoid stairs can drive two miles south to Beverly Beach State Park for very easy access to the beach.
The cozy interior will make you feel like you belong here. Sink into the plush sofa in the living room and enjoy the sound of the ocean right outside. Catch a movie on the flatscreen cable TV, which comes with a DVD player, and stay nice and warm with the gas stove. Listen to some tunes on the CD player, and look for local attractions and directions with the complimentary WiFi access.
The open design of this home leads you directly to the living area and a table that seats four. Savor the delicious meals you prepare in the fully equipped kitchen, which features standard appliances, including a dishwasher and a new stove. In the warmer months, whip up a simple barbecue dinner on the gas grill on the patio.
Sleep well on the queen-size bed in the master bedroom, which has a full bath. The second bedroom has a double bed with access to the garden through sliding glass doors. The third has a twin bed with a twin trundle, as well as a desk/work space, a mini-fridge, and a sink. The maximum occupancy of this three-bedroom, two-bath home is six and allows up to two dogs (a small nightly fee per dog applies). This rental also features a stacked washer and dryer.
When you want to stick close to home, you'll have plenty to do. You'll find games for both kids and adults in-house, and with the large fenced yard, complete with apple trees, you can rest assured that the kids and dogs will be able to blow off some steam. Take the stairs across the street to the beach (please note that they're fairly steep). Stroll around and witness the churning waters of Devils Punchbowl. Save any beachcombing or strolling in this area for low tide (for safety's sake), and see if you can spy a whale.
After your exploring, stop in at Mo's for some of their world-famous clam chowder, or head to Newport, just eight miles south, for dinner or shop browsing. And maybe find some time to stop off at Yaquina Head Lighthouse on the way for a tour, a walk through the stunning intertidal marine garden, and spectacular ocean views from the top.
For your next Oregon Coast getaway, stay in this inviting home and revel in peace and tranquility. Make your reservation now, and get ready for an unforgettable stay!

The owner’s use of colt to warm the living areas was very well done! Enjoyed it thoroughly. Having the suite downstairs for mom dad and kids allowed for naps away from the living area. I loved the owners notes posted around the house explaining how things work!
We loved our 7 nights here. It was the cleanest vacation rental we have ever stayed in! The house had everything we needed. We traveled with our adult son who surfed and having the shower outside was great. Pura Vida Surf shop were great for the board rental.
You can see the ocean from the kitchen, dining room and living room. These are peek-a-boo views but still great. It is unfortunate that the living room window is fogged up but I imagine that is a very expensive fix.
There were also good pots and pans which doesn't always happen with rentals. The washer and dryer were new and worked very well. The beds and furniture were comfortable. There were only three of us, seating in the living room area would be limited for a bigger crowd.
We walked the beach will our son surfed, visited the tide pools and walked the forest trail. We were close enough to Mo's to pick up steamer clams and they were still hot when we sat down to eat them looking out at the ocean. It is a short drive into either Depoe Bay or Newport.
We hope to return.
Small but roomy. Clean with most amenities we were looking for. Walk to Devil's Punch Bowl. Very small ocean view but short distance to sandy beach. Quiet neighborhood. Outstanding fenced yard but does need several missing boards replaced to be secure - roaming dogs now have easy access into or out of the yard.
Very nice, quiet location. Your kitchen and linens were well stocked, and the house is cute and cozy. We would love to go back!
Short walk to beach access and it had a great yard for our dog. Also well supplied.
We loved the layout of this home! We had our adult kids and grandchildren stay downstairs with their own bathroom and we stayed upstairs with our dog and our own bathroom! We loved the backyard to easily let our dog out! Two views of the ocean! A cozy living room with a free standing fireplace! We didn’t have wash clothes so called Vacasa and they brought them over soon afterwards!
Perfect for a family of surfers. The shower outside was perfect!!! Had everything we needed. Thank you!
Close to several of our favorite spots on the coast; an easy drive to Newport, Cape Perpetua, Cape Foulweather and Depoe Bay. Right in between two different access points to the beach. Our two little dogs loved the big back yard.
Disappointed that VaCasa and HomeAway added almost $500 in fees that essentially added 33% to the price of the home!!
We apologize to the guest about the fees. Additional fees can be found right before booking a rental on both the Vacasa website as well as the HomeAway website.
The location was wonderful, a easy walk down to the beach about 1 block away. Steep steps but wonderful beach Nice big yard
Our budget could only afford an ocean view, as opposed to ocean front, so this house was great because it was close to a walkway down to the beach.
The house was great - clean and well equipped. The location can't be beat! We would stay here again.
After a long drive it was nice to arrive to a home that was clean, and well appointed .
This was a nice location between two beaches. It was not far to Lincoln City or Newport.
Apple Gate is a warm, welcoming house in a terrific location. With a walking/surfing beach to the South, a high Point & Devil's Punch Bowl to the West, and a beach with tide pooling to the North, it really offers a lot. Hiking trails are available up & down the coast and there is a lot to do in surrounding towns from hikes & water activities to shopping & farmer's markets.
The house itself was perfect for 5, but would have held 6 comfortably. The public room looked a bit larger in pics, but was great for talking, eating, playing games & reading. The kitchen was sufficiently well stocked. It felt clean & comfortable without being pretentious, and two levels gave a sense of some privacy among 5 people.
We had an initial minor argument with the cable box, but the Vacasa people were right on it. Rose arrived in 15 minutes & squared us away. We were impressed.
Would like to stay here again. One of the better rental spots we've tried!
Very comfortable and convenient. It was great to have a secure yard for the dog.
Two different beaches one across street one back behind. Sandy and smooth or rocky with tidepools and caves. Not far from Newport or Depot bay for anything you. We'd to pick up. Very quiet at night. Will be staying again!!
The house is very conveniently located to beaches and tidepools, and Otter Rock is quiet and peaceful. The interior of the house could have been cleaner; we found quite a bit of pet hair on the floor, especially in corners and other places that had been overlooked by the housekeeper.
I loved the decor of the house and it was impressively clean for a vacation rental. Well stocked with amenities. And we were happy to discover this new area of the Oregon coast. It is really lovely!
Made memories of a lifetime, unforgettable.
Great little house in a perfect location. Cozy getaway!
Great house and the location can't be beat.
Appreciated that the pictures and overview of the house were accurate. Great place and location. Will definitely stay there again.
We love this house with it's great view of the ocean. The house is clean, cheery and comfortable. Great location in tiny Otter Rock but close to Newport for groceries, good food and activities
Good points: The location of the house is good (just down the street from Devil's Punchbowl), and the views from the windows were also very nice. The large, fenced yard was great for our dogs. The house is decorated nicely and feels warm and welcoming.
Bad points: The furniture at the house is in much worse condition than it appears from the listing. The couch and chair cushions are stained, dirty and gross. The towels and sheets did not seem clean either. We didn't even want to sit on the living room furniture. The washer and dryer were out of order (according to a note taped to them). There was trash left in the back yard, and the garbage in the front yard by the garbage bin was overflowing when we got there. Mainly this house did not seem clean.
I wouldn't stay at this property again.
We are disappointed to read this guest was displeased with their experience. There is a cover on the couch, we are working on repairs to the washing machine, and there is a larger trash can available at the home now.
After looking at several options in the Otter Rock area, we decided on this one because it seemed like a great value. It was priced competitively and one of the closest to beach access & devil's punchbowl. We absolutely loved it's location in Otter Rock, and love this area of the coast.
The layout is a little strange with the front door not really having an entryway and just opening up into a stairwell and hallway. But the layout did end up growing on me. The bedrooms were far enough away from the living room that we didn't have to worry about waking our napping children. And the living room being upstairs meant a beautiful view, even some ocean waves visible.
The home had everything we needed and adequate towels & supplies for our weeklong trip. I was nervous that we would run out of TP or garbage bags, but we had everything we needed except for laundry detergent (which we brought from home anyways).
Since we have small children, we brought our own plastic plates & cups since we didn't know what would be provided. I'm glad we did because it was needed. We also brought some of our own cabinet locks to make sure our little ones didn't get into anything. Since our little ones are used to stairs and a hot fireplace, we didn't worry about those. We were able to quickly babyproof the house for us, and our kids had a blast.
I am pleased that our single interaction with Vacasa during our trip went smoothly. The list of items included a blender, so we brought things to make smoothies. We couldn't find one in the house. It wasn't too big of a deal and we were just going to skip it. But at one point our daughter accidentally locked us out of a bedroom. With no way to unlock it we had to call Vacasa (and mention the blender while we were at it). They were prompt and courteous. I was surprised to see a maintenance worker show up 2 hours later (at 7pm on a week night) to fix the problem. He was professional and fantastic. And the next day he dropped off a brand new blender on the porch. That is fantastic customer service.
Places we were able to walk to: Devil's Punchbowl, Mo's (sadly closed for the season), tide pool, sandy beach, and hiking inside devil's punchbowl at low tide.
Places with a short drive that we visited: Agate beach (flying kites), Yaquina Head lighthouse (with tide pools and visitor center), hatfield Marine science center, Aquarium, Lincoln city shops, dinner in Newport with sea lions visible in the marina.
Places we went with a longer drive: Thor's Well, Devil's Churn, Cape Perpetua visitor center and hike to 600 year old tree. Tillamook cheese factory. Cape Meares hike & lighthouse, and giant "octopus tree".
There are so many beautiful places to explore. The only thing we had a hard time with was not realizing that many places are closed on Tuesday & Wednesday. So finding activities last minute on those days was tricky.
The place is very cute, well-furnished, attractive with a great big yard. Smallish/cozy house, so probably not great for more than one family w/multiple kids, or two couples. But a nice jaunt (down a lot of stairs) to the beach, and a quick walk to the view of the Devil's Punchbowl. Can even see a bit of ocean from the house.
