Historic beach house w/ wrap-around porch - 5 blocks to the beach, 2 dogs OK!

Experience the rich history of Old Orchard Beach at this five-bedroom Maine escape, a century-old home with a gracious front porch, a dog-friendly living space, and a wonderful location within walking distance of the beach.

Ideal for swimmers, sunbathers, and beach-goers of all ages, this classic home has stood in the heart of Old Orchard Beach since 1930. You'll be just five blocks from the town's famous stretch of sand, half a mile from the Amtrak station, one mile south of the Old Orchard Pier and Palace Playland, and two miles from the Dunegrass Golf Club.

Come inside to find a living space fit for a large family, with hardwood floors, abundant seating, and a ceiling fan to circulate the ocean breezes. Flip through a novel in the rocking chair, pile on the sofa to play one of the provided board games, and throw a few logs on the fire to stay warm and cozy at night.

Pick up your favorite snacks and ingredients at the nearby Hannaford Supermarket and prepare meals with ease in the full kitchen. Sizzle bacon each morning on the stainless steel stove, use the slow cooker to get a head start on dinner, and leave the dishwasher running as you sit down for breakfast at the six-person dining table.

Grab the provided boogie board and spend the day swimming and sunbathing on the beach just down the road. As many as two dogs are welcome to join you, but please keep in mind that a small nightly pet fee applies and that dogs are only welcome on Old Orchard Beach before 10 a.m. and after 5 p.m.

When you've had your fill of sand and surf, you can lounge in the rocking chairs on the wrap-around porch and light the gas grill for a seafood feast. As your bathing suits and beach towels spin in the private washer/dryer, the whole family can gather for movie night on the first of seven flatscreen TVs with a VCR, DVD player, and a Roku with Netflix.

With five bedrooms and two full bathrooms, The Hoxie House will sleep a total of 10 guests. You'll find one charming bedroom with a queen-size bed, two bedrooms with a double bed apiece, and two kids' rooms that each offer a set of twin beds. Each of the bedrooms is outfitted with a flatscreen TV, and four of them even offer an in-room sink to eliminate any lines at the bathroom doors.

Whether you're a first-time visitor or an annual vacationer on the shores of Maine, you'll find a wealth of family-friendly activity in Old Orchard Beach. Spend your days lounging on the town's seven-mile beach, grab a few afternoon snacks on the Old Orchard Pier, and reserve the evenings for rides at Palace Playland and rounds of putt-putt at Pirate's Cove Adventure Golf half a mile up the road.

Make a summer tee time at the Dunegrass Golf Club two miles north, or hop in the car for a ride to Scarborough Beach State Park, Crescent Beach State Park, or Cape Elizabeth to the north of Saco Bay. You'll also be just 18 miles south of downtown Portland, where you can stroll through the historic Old Port and enjoy scrumptious lobster rolls at Eventide Oyster Co.

Make your next Maine vacation an unforgettable one - spend quality time with your loved ones at this historic Old Orchard Beach home!

This place was very accommodating and clean. There were 4 couples and 1 single person, and we had plenty of room. They provided everything we needed. We all loved the wrap around porch where we sat, talked and had coffee to enjoy the weather.

I liked the location. Easy walk to beach. The kids loved when the train went by. We walked to the pier and took the kids on some rides. Grocery store short drive to get our everyday needs. Large bedrooms. Place had all that I needed to enjoy myself.

We loved our stay, the house has tons of room for family and a great deck to be outside! It was also so close to the beach, which helped walking back and forth to the beach with the kiddos! It's walking distance to everything you need, a park , the boardwalk, a store and food. The only reason I did a 4 is because the fire alarms had an issue and kept going over several nights in a row at 3am waking the baby up and we couldn't figure out what was the issue. The house was very clean as well. Other than that the stay was amazing!
Manager response:
We are so glad to hear you enjoyed your stay, Victoria! We apologize for the alarm problems you experienced but we appreciate you notifying us of the issue so we could ensure it was addressed. We have since inspected the home's alarm system and replaced the faulty unit. Thank you for being a great guest!

We had a great time and enjoyed staying at the Hoxie House. The wrap around porch with rocking chairs was a hit with the family. The washer and dryer were an added plus for our stay. Great food near by and the pier is a short walk from the house.

This house was perfect for our crew! We had 5 people racing Ironman 70.3 this year, and this house made for a pretty comfortable stay. The home's best asset has to be that deck! It allowed us to spread out and since our weather was near perfect, we spent a lot of time out here. The location of the house is near perfect also; Just 2 short blocks from the beach, one block from Tami-Lynns (which provided us with much needed nourishment) and a short walk to the Ironman Finish/Expo. There were also surprise added bonuses within the house: sinks in every upstairs room- this meant no waiting for an open bathroom to brush your teeth. The downstairs bathroom is split up between a stall shower in the laundry room and a separate water closet/toilet. This was very convenient! The couches had been updated recently and were very comfortable and clean. The kitchen is on the smaller size, but very functional. There are two sets of staircases that go upstairs which also turned out to be convenient. While we were there, the owner updated the chairs around the firepit and the new chairs were a huge improvement. The grill is large and we used it often. We ran out of propane but the owners had left a second tank for us which was great! We found plenty of paper products and some garbage bags and dish soap, etc. They also provided towels and linens and everything was very clean. The only downfalls to this home that I can recall: No AC and upstairs did get warm even with open windows and fans, but what can you do? It's an old house and we survived! The grass in the backyard had not been cut and was overgrown. This was just a small oversight I'm sure. Lastly, we could not get the second lockbox open with the key so we had to strategically plan who would be in charge of the one key we did have. Not a huge deal. I think our group would stay here again as it was extremely convenient and pretty comfortable. The fact we could have a dog also was an added plus for us!

We stayed here for the weekend and loved it! The House is obviously historic and old but felt that it was still well maintained and spacious. The sink in every room were convenient. The beach, bar, pier were only walking distance away; which was great. Overall, place was great place to stay for any type of getaway.

I stayed here with 9 other people and everyone had a bed to sleep in. It was very nice, big, and clean inside, and we loved the wrap around porch whether we were just hanging out on a summer day or watching the sunrise that morning. At the house we were provided towels to use in every room and beach towels to borrow since Old Orchard Beach is just a short walk away.
