Stayed for 2 nights and had a great time. Anchor Pier Lodge is in a great location. Was in walking distance to everything I needed. Loved opening the door and hearing the water and sea lions. The only negative was wallpaper peeling and proximity of the toilet to bathroom door. I would stay here again no question.

Right on the bay front and close to everything we wanted to do

Not much to say postive except the view was ok. We have stayed in several places in Newport and this one was not so good. The bed was so old it was leaning back so our feet were higher then our heads. The pillows were about 1 inch thick had to use a sweet shirt to leavel out. For the money it was not a good experience. Maybe they should invest the money and put into a bed that is level and pillows that are not a million years old. And bring your own coffee you get one package for the whole stay. Also bring extra toiler paper
Manager response:
Hi Meredith. We appreciate you taking the time to leave this review for us. We're so glad that you enjoyed the view. We're sorry to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. We will be sure to pass along your feedback and hope that you'll give us another opportunity to host you with an improved experience.

Denise from housekeeping was a jewel. She went above and beyond her duties. Got us switched from a room that overlooked the street to one that overlooked the bay. Room was nice but not worth the price we had to pay. Probably won’t be back to stay as the stairs are a pain for us elderly people.

This was a nice little place and we really enjoyed our stay. We started off a bit bumpy when we made the steep, looong trek up the stairs only to find our reserved room was definitely not clean or made up. The staff was super attentive and helpful and the owner very quickly called me back to apologize for the oversight and gave us a different room, which I think we preferred anyway, as it turned out. The room itself was really nice--super clean, lots of space, a great deck, plenty of closet and bathroom space with lots of clean towels and cute decor. The bed was very comfortable, although pretty high. I'm 5'2" so I'm not surprised it was a bit of a leap for me to get into it, but that was also true for my 6' husband! The pillows are those sad, flat, hard little ones, so travel with your own if you don't like that kind. We didn't use the jetted tub at all, but it looked nice--just not particularly our thing. The deck was great--fun to watch all the coming and going in this busy bay. As mentioned by other reviewers, the sea lions a little ways down from the place are loud, day and night. However, it didn't keep us awake at all. If you are a light sleeper they may bother you, but the room does provide ear plugs and a white noise machine for that situation. The tour boat that boards just below the room wasn't running at the time, so I don't know how loud that might be, but I'm guessing it might be pretty intrusive during the main season. Personally, we prefer sea lion noise to human noise any day of the week.
We really had only two issues with the room. First was the lack of a table or anyplace to "stage" from. There is a short bench at the foot of the bed and a luggage rack (both were used and much appreciated). However, the big old style entertainment center is the elephant in the room--not needed with the flat screen tv and took up room that would be better served by a small desk or table--someplace a person could sit down to apply their makeup by natural light, or write a note or check their computer or read. And speaking of reading, better lighting would also be needed for that (and maybe a more comfortable chair or two, not wicker, and somewhere to put up your feet). The room cooled off quickly with the deck door open and the ceiling fan on, but we were there during fairly cool weather. There is only a small window and the door to provide fresh air and I'm guessing on a hot day and night it could get quite warm. No screen on the door, so we weren't real comfortable leaving the main door open at night, although it would have kept the room cooler.
As noted by other reviewers, the staircases up to the room are quite steep and there is no elevator. This wasn't a big issue for us as we travel fairly light and our knees, although old, still work pretty well. If you have mobility issues this isn't the place for you. However, the trade off is the on-the-water location in the center of a cool area, yet without all the street noise you might get other places. With only about six rooms, there wasn't even noise from your fellow guests. Overall, if you are looking for a funky, fun, well located place that isn't the typical hotel room, this place will tick a lot of the boxes for a memorable, fun vacation. But if an elevator and continental breakfast is a bigger priority, you're better off with a chain hotel. I highly recommend stepping away from the usual and climbing the stairs!
Manager response:
Dawn, thank you for your review. We are happy to hear you had an enjoyable stay overall. We are sorry for this last-minute shift in plans. We make every effort to host our guests as booked, but there can be unforeseen circumstances that lead us to offer other accommodations. So first the positives~ It's adorably decorated, very clean and right on the water. The view from the balcony is fantastic. You can see the Sea lions from your balcony and the fishing boats coming and going. It's right in the middle of the bay front so you can easily walk to any stores or restaurants. These are the negatives we experienced~ The fireplace in the room is very nice but it kicks on automatically even if you've set the thermostat on as low as it goes. So if you're like me and like to sleep in a cool room at night it's not happening. I was so hot in the bed that I woke up in a pool of my own sweat each night. Not very fun. The bed was pretty hard and uncomfortable. They say it's a queen but seems like a full at best.. The Sea lions are very noisy but if you turn the noise machine on and the box fan on along with putting the ear plugs in it's not too bad. Anyway I hope you have a better experience than we did,
Manager response:
Hi, Cathy! We apologize if you were too warm during your stay; please do not hesitate to reach out for assistance with such things so we can help you enjoy your experience to the fullest. We have confirmed the bed is queen-sized. Thank you!

Pros:
It was a very nice room.
Great location.
The tub was nice and romantic.
Easy access to the bayfront.
Cons:
No free water in the fridge as promised.
The sign on the back of the front door said they would refresh our towels and coffee and they didn't. There are four towels in the room so bring laundry soap if you want clean towels for the next day. There is a washer and dryer on site and they are free. There is enough coffee in the room to make two pots which in turn is four regular coffee cups so bring more coffee if you want more.
The bedding seemed like it wasn't clean. There was what looked to be blood on one of the pillow cases We did wash them and they came clean.
There were dust bunnies under the bed.
The instructions for using tthe TV were clear but didn't tell you how to turn the tv off.

All in all it was a pleasant experience and we will likely stay again.
Manager response:
Hi, Rick! We apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. You appear to have had access to old information from before Vacasa managed the property; we will ensure all of this information is removed or updated as appropriate. We have new linens in the home, and we have checked that the TV instructions are clear and concise. Thank you for choosing Vacasa!

Clean, quiet(except for the sea lions), close to everything and just park car and walk to shops and food. Full moon and beautiful sunrise. Fishing ship passing right in front of the deck. Jetted tub very relaxing. Sea lions playing at your feet. White sound machine and earplugs to block out the sea lions barking at night. Perfect retreat.

Wendy H. Oct 2019
Loved our stay at Ocean's Edge. The sea lions were entertaining as we watched them from the deck area. As others have stated, parking is an issue. That would be the only negative thing I could say about our stay
Leanna S. Sep 2019
This is our 4th time staying at this property. Love everything about it....beware if its summer or early fall you will get the lovely singing of the sea lions for your enjoyment.
Mclain L. Sep 2019
I loved the quietness of the place even though you are in a busy part of town. Even though the sea lions are loud they never bothered us. The place is clean and the bed is super comfortable. Definitely plan to comeback!
