The house itself is nice, neat, and well laid out. The house is also very close to the pool and beach which was the perfect location! The only downfall to the entire vacation was that the beach water on Dauphin Island is not clear or pretty. The sand is nice and white but water is brown. Myself and my family spent a great deal of time at the beach and in the water, so it is not terrible, but my family complained about the water not being pretty. The island is very small and most options for eating require significant wait time but I think that is because they were short staffed at the time we were there, July 2021. All in all, I would go again because I love the small town feel of the island and the great house, but my family is not on board with going back due to the ocean water.

First of all, this location is fabulous - right across from the beach access. The house had plenty of bikes, chairs, and even an umbrella to use. My SUV would not fit under the house, but we enjoyed putting our hammocks on the pillars anyway. We enjoyed the screened in back porch. We found it more convenient to use the back door there rather than the front door which automatically locks, requiring you to get a key out of a locked box on the porch to open the door.

The house had plenty of space for my husband and me, as well as our teens and their 2 friends. The bed in the downstairs master is very comfortable. The rest of the beds are pretty bad, especially the bunk beds. Those mattresses were the worst I’ve ever seen. No one could sleep on them until we had used every single linen in the house to fluff them up a bit. The queen sized bed was uncomfortable as well. The toilets lacked sufficient pressure to flush properly - I’ve never had to plunge a toilet so many times. The upstairs shower needs a new curtain - it is quite moldy.

The kitchen is well stocked (I think I counted 4 different types of coffee / espresso makers). The stovetop does not get hot enough to boil water, which was frustrating. The washer and dryer was fabulous.

There were clothes left in the upstairs dresser (the only dresser in the house - bring hangers if you need them) and a pair of underwear was left hanging on the back of the master closet door. There was also a small bag of trash in the upstairs bunkbed room closet. The house appeared clean, but these things did give us pause.

All-in-all we would stay here again simply based on the size and location of the house. With a bit of maintenance, this place could be amazing.
Manager response:
Jenifer, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we appreciate your suggestions for improvement. While we understand that sleeping preferences vary widely, we are sorry to hear that some of the beds did not provide for a comfortable night of rest. We will certainly keep your comments in mind when planning updates to the home. The shower liners have been replaced and leftover items have been removed. Housekeeping and maintenance have been dispatched to address the issues you encountered. We hope we can host you again!

We had a wonderful stay here! The house had everything we needed and was gorgeous! The only dissapointing thing was the pool turned dark green mid week so we did not feel comfortable using it. Maintenance came a couple days later and resolved the issue but by the time it cleared, we were leaving. The house is beautifully maintained and VERY close to the ocean. We stayed with young kids and were very happy there was a bathroom facility at the pool, as it was the halfway point between house and beach. Overall we would highly recommend Heels in the Sand!
