Dog-Friendly Home w/ Private Pool, Hot Tub & AC - 800 Feet to Association Beach!

Come and stay in the Bird's Nest Pool House, a five-bedroom home in the desirable Sturgeon Beach neighborhood of New Buffalo, where you'll be only 800 feet (and a flight of 50 stairs) from a private association beach. Enjoy a private heated swimming pool that's available all summer, a new eight-person hot tub (added in 2019), and such at-home comforts as an electric vehicle charger, central air conditioning, and your very own washer/dryer.

The main floor features an open floor plan with a living room, a dining area with a table for eight, a breakfast bar with seating for four, and a fully equipped kitchen. Just off the kitchen is a screened-in porch overlooking the pool, where you can barbecue chicken and steaks on the gas grill and sit down for al fresco dinners with your loved ones. The upper level is home to a master bedroom with a king-size bed, an en suite bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the pool that's shared with the second bedroom, which also has a king-size bed. The third bedroom, on the opposite end of the house from the master bedroom, has two twin beds. Just up the stairs is the cupola room with two more twin beds.

Spend the evening hours downstairs in the lower-level family room, where you'll find a large, wall-mounted flatscreen TV and a sitting area that opens onto the backyard pool area through French doors. The fifth bedroom, offering a king-size bed and a full bathroom, is located on the lower level as well.

Had a wonderful week with the family. Maria from Vacasa was quite helpful when needed. She was able to deliver a gas grill which is a must for our family vacations. Pool and hot were great. Well appointed home.

Our family group of seven (6 adults, one toddler) loved the house, pool & hot tub! The beach is beautiful, maybe a little further than we thought but about a ten minute walk & then lots of stairs down. House included additional things we didn't expect, like a bluetooth speaker, pool towels, a few pool floaties, and quite a few beach chairs in the front closet. (We were told there were none). A couple of negative things were no closet or dresser in the cupola bedroom (2 twins). No door either; its a better space for kids than adults. The main floor is so bright & welcoming, loved the table that would sit 8. We spent a lot of time there (when not by the pool). Screened porch off the main floor is very nice. Electric grill is better than none at all. Kitchen lacks ANY serving bowls or platters whatsoever, which is tough when prepping most of your meals. There were a few very large plastic & metal bowls for mixing. Plenty of dishes & glasses, but they really need to add serving bowls & platters. Vacasa could be better at answering emails. My first question they responded pretty quickly, but a week prior to our trip I sent another email that was never responded to at all, even after I followed up by re-forwarding my questions. The house would work best for three couples (3 king bed rooms) with 5 kids total. The ONLY tub is in the master, so if you have small kids who are too young for a shower, they need to use that one. Association beach flag is a myth, I think. We didn't have one, & never saw anyone using one on the beach. There's not a lot of restaurants for carryout, virtually no delivery, but we did carryout twice & got pizza delivered once. For groceries, Barneys in NB was pretty nice & we got a few things at the smaller market in UP. We really did enjoy our stay & the house is beautiful, such a nice neighborhood. We would stay here again!

We loved the Birds Nest house and it was great for a fun family vacation. The pool, hot tub and all the amenities were great. The only challenge for us is that my husband has some mobility issues and there are a great deal of stairs - to the bedrooms and pool area. As long as guests don’t have mobility issues it is a great spot to enjoy a fun vacation!

We booked birds nest for a 7 day stay over memorial day (Saturday to saturday). We were told that the pool would not be opened until memorial day. This was a bit surprising since the pool opening would happen 2 days after our arrival. However, no one ever came to open the pool. We paid a good price for a house with a pool.. and no one ever came to open it. No one from Vacasa replied to my email about the pool opening or hot tub opening. Many of the windows are missing screens - most importantly the master bathroom that became unusable after several days when the window was open for fresh air and the bathroom because a home for the outdoor mosquitoes, grasshoppers and other flies. Also for a house this large, a grill better than an electric grill would be more appropriate. The house was supplied with plenty of towels, beach chairs, umbrellas (which when I emailed about they told me there weren’t any.. so we ended up packing up our own). The association requires a beach flag to use the private beach which was not supplied by the house. There was not an “instruction book” that I normally see at rental houses. Normally it would show how/where the thermostats are, how to use/clean the hot tub/pools, activities in the area, dining options in the area.. but no welcome/instruction book. In general, the house was lovely.. great size bedrooms, plentiful linens, lovely quiet neighborhood. We would stay again if Vacasa would be more responsive to emails and their were clearer instructions for the house. Also, please install screens on all windows and the bedroom balcony doors.
Manager response:
Hello Kristina, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We apologize for any miscommunication or confusion regarding the details of your stay. The pool was open and swim-ready prior to your stay, but it appears that the method of opening the pool cover was not properly communicated. We would like to clarify that he hot tub is open year-round and always ready to use! The beach does not require a flag, our association doesn’t use them nor any other type of pass or identifier. While we understand the desire for a gas grill, electric grills are only permitted by the fire marshall. Thanks to your feedback, the screen in the master bath window has been replaced, however, the balcony doors off the bedrooms are not set up in a way to allow screens.  Additionally, we’re working on including an instruction book with the house to help make guests feel at home more quickly. Thank you again for this feedback, we’re always looking for ways to improve our home.  We’re glad you enjoyed your stay overall and we look forward to you staying at Birds Nest again!
