What's nearby:
Paniolo Hale is located on Molokai's west end right on the ocean. Kepuhi Beach is right out front and great for surfing in the winter months and perfect for swimming and snorkeling in the summer months. Just a short walk over the old golf course, you'll find Papohaku Beach, the longest white sand beach in the state of Hawaii, and an awesome place to watch the waves break during the winter and take long ocean swims in the summer months. A short walk to the left will take you to Make Horse with lots of little tide pools for taking a cold tub or letting little kids catch little fish. A nice beach hike is nearby that extends from Paniolo Hale to the point. Kaunakakai Town is about 30 minutes away with groceries, art shops, gift stores, mini markets, restaurants, equipment rentals, and our county offices.

Molokai is a very special place and if you do your homework ahead of time, you will know what to expect. The Paniolo Hale is a wonderful complex with a range of units to rent at different prices. Our unit was one of the older ones and so was more affordable and showed its age. Having said that, the complex's location is excellent with lush grounds and a short walk to beaches and hiking.
Our unit was well equipped for cooking, a good range of cook ware and implements. We appreciated whether it was the hosts or recent renters who left basics such as foil, plastic wrap, paper napkins as well as some spices. Lots of towels for the unit and beach. As well, there were beach chairs, a cooler, two yoga mats, and an umbrella though it was too windy when we were there to use the umbrella at the beach.
While we knew there were no loungers on the lanai, that would be a welcome addition. It was delightful to sit there and watch the butterflies and birds but the chairs at the table were not very comfortable.
If you want to unwind with the TV in the evening, there is one arm chair so we pulled over one of the kitchen chairs, not ideal, however we knew the furniture set up from the photos ahead of time.
The fans and winds kept the place cool without air conditioning. We would swim in the ocean or explore in the mornings and enjoy the pool in the afternoon which was very quiet during our stay.
We did have a couple of maintenance issues and the property management company was very responsive.
