No surprises. Just as good as advertised.

The location was perfect, and CLEAN. Very quiet and beautiful, the elk were amazing to see from the windows inside and the porch outside. Would highly recommend this place for a couple or a family vacation.

We stayed in the Beachcomber unit during the first week of August 2021. After staying for 6 nights, I do have both positive and not as positive thoughts to share.

Starting with the higher notes, on the first day of our trip, we had travelled 12+ hours with 2 young children, one in a wheelchair; so when we arrived an hour before check in, we were very pleased and thankful that they allowed us to go ahead and check in early rather than having spend another hour waiting in the car. We arrived to a clean unit, and I was impressed by the size of the bedrooms for sure. Plenty of room for our family of 4 to settle in comfortably for the week. Although there wasn't a full kitchen, I was pleased that it was equipped with a hot plate, toaster, a microwave, cookware, and plenty of dishes. We were able to cook several meals for our family in the unit and had everything we needed.
We also had the awesome experience of having a herd of Elk wander into the yard next to our unit on the second day of our trip. The kids were really excited by this!

Now for the not as positive thoughts. One of the biggest things that I wish I had been aware of when booking this unit is the location. This unit is the only one at the site that faces the highway. In fact the front door is only 15-20 yards from the highway. If I had known that this was the case, I would have chosen a different unit. In addition to that, we had trouble locating the unit when we arrived, because it is actually attached to the office and on arrival it appeared that the unit WAS the office. And because of COVID guidelines, we couldn't talk to anyone on site for assistance. We actually had to drive into town to access the email that had been sent prior to check in to figure out how to get in to the unit. Because the unit shared walls with the office, in the bedroom with the smaller beds, we could hear the conversations of those in the office all day. And then there were large storage containers in the area behind the unit/ office and the bathroom window and master bedroom window of our unit looked directly onto them. While the employees kept to themselves during our stay, it still felt as if our privacy was limited.
Speaking of the employees, I was also surprised to find out that the employees that were on site, were actually not associated with Vacasa or the lodging at all. They were attached to the Wildlife and Redwood tours only-- so if we had concerns with our stay or our unit, there was no one on site to contact- we would need to reach out by phone, but there is no cell service and no phone in the unit, so this meant we would need to travel into to town to do so.
My last thought is a little more of a personal preference but it had a huge impact to the quality of our stay, so it is worth sharing. The beds. They were VERY firm. This might be preferred for some, but my husband and I were so uncomfortable, slept terribly, and woke up aching each morning. If you like a firm mattress, this is for you, but for those that prefer something a little more plush, I recommend you be wary.

Overall- our family enjoyed our stay. We liked that the site was out of town but we still had quick access to restaurants, grocery stores, the beach and Redwoods. If were to ever travel to the area again, we might consider Elk Meadow Cabins for lodging, but we would not chose the Beachcomber cabin in the future.

The ONLY reason I'm not giving my stay 5 stars is because I had to pay a $150 cleaning fee. For an extra $150 I expected the place to be spotless! That was not the case. Our dishes had food on them, I wrote "wash me" in the dust on the blinds and there were dust bunnies in the corners of the guest room and under the furniture of the master bedroom. Other than that, the cabin was perfect.
Manager response:
Thank you for your review! We are disappointed to hear the home was not up to the high standard of guest satisfaction and cleanliness that we hold ourselves to. Please know our guest services team is available 24 hours a day to assist should you have any concerns in the home. Great location, friendly people, everything we needed.

The cabin was clean and comfortable and we were over all pleased with our stay. If I had to choose again though, I would choose a cabin other than Beachcomber. This particular one was the only one to face the road as opposed to the meadow so it didn't have the views that the other cabins do. It was also attached to the main office and I don't think all of the guests realized that it was another cabin where people were sleeping. My mother-in-law said that she heard people standing outside of her window chatting late at night. There were a few hiccups with the electricity and wifi, but they were resolved quickly.
Other than that, it was a great stay. I would totally stay at Elk Meadows again, but I would just pick a different cabin next time.
Manager response:

Our first post-pandemic trip— postponed a year and well worth the wait! So many elk spent time with us during our 4-night stay on the property. And our half-day tours of the trees & the tide pools really enriched our family experience here. Great way to check off the “bucket list” trip to the redwoods. Three generations reunited for a memorable & fun trip together. Thank you!
