Historic home & carriage house in heart of Cayucos - stroll to town & coast

Large enough to accommodate up to 13 guests, yet cozy enough to put you in a nostalgic state of mind, this historic Saltbox house (circa 1880s) in Cayucos is a delightful vacation home comprised of three separate vacation rentals - the first floor Captain’s Quarters, the upstairs Crow’s Nest, and the Carriage House.

Conveniently located in the center of town, this vacation home is steps away from shops, restaurants, the pier, and the ocean. Wake up every morning to the sound of crashing waves, walk to grab your morning coffee, then head to the beach for some quality time near the sand and water.

While each area of The Saltbox has its own living/dining area, kitchen, private entrance, and deck or patio, this listing is for the entire house. Entertainment amenities include TVs, DVDs, and free WiFi, and charcoal grills are available for group cookouts.

We just couldn’t ask for a more central location with great parking in the middle of town.

Salt house was perfect for the 11 of us (3 separate families). Great beach access, town access, parking . It was easy to come and go as needed. Convient and comfortable.

Close to everything!!

We had an extremely relaxed couple of days. The location could not be better with many options at the The Saltbox for
sleeping arrangements. I would strongly recommend this property. We will be returning again next year.

Great place to stay with a large family.

The house worked well with our family reunion 5 couples. Lots of different bedrooms/suites. The decor is attractive & the beds were comfortable. We were able to make dinners together work with the existing furniture. I've already booked it for next year.
Couple of improvements:
1. Kitchen sink faucet needs work - turn off is tricky.
2. A 2-inch limb off the Cypress in front fell overnight - and looks like there may be 1 other to come down - needs trimming.
3. Interior floors and main patio are uneven - challenging for less-abled in places. Patio really needs re-setting the bricks.
4. We had some hot Sept days - nice if there were screens.
Overall this is a great place, close to Cayucos beach and downtown. Quaint and complete.

It was the right size for the ten adults and four kids in our group. It is a really great location and court yard area was big enough for us to eat outside as a group. since it is an old house it does have its natural downside: no garbage disposal, dishwasher etc. My only complaint was that the Crow's Nest's pony wall by the stairs is very low and the parents of the two children were worried about the kids falling down the stairs. Other than that I really like the house.

For our large family with many ages of kids it was perfect. Good parking. Great fenced yard and just steps to the beach. Have used for a couple of years and will rent it again.

My husband, son, and son in law, loved the closeness of coffee shop. And the times they were open. I loved the closeness to food, and candy.

The Saltbox is a one-of-kind place. Everyone in our group loved the charm of the place. It was spacious yet had a very cozy feel. It is close to shops and dining, not to mention the beach. We would definitely stay here again!

Funky old house with a 70’s feel, perfect for a stay at my favorite beach. Walking distance to just about everything, plenty of parking. Delicious smells coming from next door at the Brown Butter Cookie Company. We celebrated our annual “Cuzcation” cousins came from Far and wide. Lots of bedrooms and baths for a large group. Walk south to Luna’s, grab a cup of coffee and check out Happy Go Smile, Barb had a painting class for our group.
Fun place. I’ll be back!

We have been to the Salt Box three years now, and our family always has a fun time. Many of my family gets up early, and always find the coffee shop open. They like to get their coffee and head to see what is happening on the beach.
Girls like the antique stores, and grandson likes the gun shop that is nearby.

We loved staying in this historic house. We rented all three properties for my father's 80th birthday. The property is charming and provided the room we needed. Being able to walk across the street to go to the beach, restaurants, and shopping was ideal. The only downside is the bar across the street. They played loud music until early in the morning. Regardless, we had a wonderful time and made some great memories. We would definitely stay there again!

The Salt box is a fun relaxed place to stay with the family. It's close to the beach for the kids and has a yard to sit and relax in the evenings.
