We went for a walk the morning we left. It was pouring down rain. We found a little trail that was completely soggy that crossed a wetland on a muddy trail but then found the "secret beach" with waterfalls that fell down onto the sand. We just wish we would have found it sooner! The trail was just at the end of the street that Carole's Cove is on- so very close- but probably one of our favorite things about the trip! Spectacular!

The walking and hiking possibilities are endless and beautiful. Dinner at "Trillium" is terrific, with a small intimate dining room and wonderful food. Breakfast at the Mendocino Hotel is consistently delicious amid lovely furnishings and it has a good bar. No - other than maybe the ocean. For me that is the only draw, the only redeeming quality of the area. I do not enjoy shopping, and the towns of Mendocino and Ft. Bragg have become so overrun by homeless and drug addicts that the quaint atmosphere has been ruined. One trip to the Safeway in Ft Bragg is all I could handle - was accosted by panhandlers outside, and the stench walking through the aisles was intolerable. If I visit again, I will bring my own groceries.

So nice that our dog could stay with us. We enjoyed shopping in many of the Mendocino stores. We plan to come back, and hope for less rain when we do!

The whole coast is beautiful for a drive in either direction. We hated the food at the Stanford Inn, Flow was mediocre at best, but we loved the food at Wildfish. Small and run by a lovely couple who prepare fresh fish in inventive and delicious ways. Many restaurants serve upscale food which is not out of our budget, but not particularly our taste, but as we all know, taste varies from person to person.

Be sure to take the time to explore the nooks and crannies of Mendocino. It is such a charming place with wonderful and unique shopping, with some great quirky choices things you wouldn't expect. Great dining choices. When visiting I walk all over the town and just soak up the experience. Cannot be completely explained you just have to experience it for yourself. I never tire of it. Be sure to visit the Mendocino Art Center and see the gallery and visit the classrooms to see what is going on.

Be aware that it is really remote -- 5 minutes from the main road, and about 10 minutes from town. There is no cell service in this area and no wifi at the house. That said, it is secluded and peaceful and just a delightful retreat.

The town of Mendocino is beautiful. We enjoyed riding the Skunk Train in nearby Fort Bragg.
When we arrived there was fog but it lifted by the next morning and the ocean was so beautiful. That night we could see so many stars--I fell asleep looking at the sky. Our favorite experience was watching the whales on our last morning --actually we only got glimpses of the whales when the sun caught them as they moved through the water but we could see the spouts of at least 2 whales. Why didn't we bring binoculars?

The walk out to the bluff was gorgeous first thing in the morning. The path is found on across the street , to the left of the driveway. It has a large fence across it with a small opening to walk through.

Mendocino Music Festival every July is wonderful. A bit biased as my son plays in it every year. The Sea Glass Museum is tiny but jam packed with info, videos, displays and gifts. And, of course, Glass Beach is so fun. They've recently made improvements to its access. Although we chose to eat in, since we had this lovely house, I would highly recommend the Ledford House for food, entertainment and view. And the MacCallum House restaurant is wonderful for breakfast and dinner. Until this year, I've stayed there during the Festival.

Yes. You should mention the walking path starting at the end of Vega Drive that leads to Point Cabrillo Lighthouse. Beautiful walk (where we learned about the "Frolic" reference).
Also, the town of Mendocino was charming and the Mendocino Headlands State Park was great.
Three tiny notes about the home: couldn't fully open the left blind in the master bedroom, the mattress perhaps should be replaced and you may want to mention that there are 4 thermostats. Otherwise...perfection!

I've been going to Mendocino for 52 years. We have a family cabin in mendocino. We were celebrating my mom's life so there wasn't enough room for all at the cabin. There are so many wonderful places in the area. Some of my favorites are Frankie's Ice Cream Parlor in Mendo, the restaurant by the water tower on lansing st is delicious, 10 mile beach 20 miles or so north? is beautiful and sunny often times when mendo isn't. Walking out on the headlands at Mendocino, hot tubbing from the Pallete House porch with a stellar view of the ocean, having a cozy family dinner next to all the windows looking at the ocean...

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens and Ecological Staircase walk to Pygmy forest at Jug Handle State Reserve
A note about house: the garage floor was painted the day or day before we arrived. VERY strong paint odor whole time we were there in kitchen & bedroom next to kitchen. This was our only negative. Also when we arrived garage door open. When we left cover had blown off car in driveway.

The visitors center in Mendocino was very helpful regarding plans for our trip.
They had wonderful hike recommendations. The man and woman who run it are wonderful and knowledgable!

It's a lovely location right on the edge of Mendocino, so many of the restaurants and shops are within walking distance.

Casper Beach and Jughandle were beautiful. The Point Cabrillo lighthouse was very cool. If someone is interested in art and galleries, we would HIGHLY recommend going to the Glass Fire gallery. Some of the blown glass pieces there were as beautiful as Murano glass in Venice, Italy and the owners are very nice. The Mendocino cafe was also very nice and has a beautiful flower garden in front of the outdoor seating. We also love that almost everywhere you go in Mendocino is pet friendly!!
