Short-term rentals are currently unregulated in San Diego, though that could change in the near future with various proposals being discussed. If you rent your home or a portion of your property to a guest(s) on a short-term basis, you are subject to the San Diego Municipal Code requirements and must obtain a Transient Occupancy Registration Certificate. Each vacation rental home in San Diego is subject to a 10.5 percent Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) assessment. The TOT and Tourism Marketing District (TMD) assessment must be remitted monthly and are due no later than the last day of the following month. There is no nightly booking fee.
