Ocean Beach has a new urban winery (Gianni Buonomo) that is definitely worth a visit. It is an oasis of civilization on Newport Ave which is otherwise overly populated with brewerys catering to a puerile crowd. Good restaurants in Point Loma should not be missed (especially Solare).

The neighborhood is great with easy access to a lot of fun options, though we had to drive to get groceries. Parking was always a challenge - expect a 10-20 minute search for a space that may sometimes be several blocks away. Easy access to the Zoo, Coronado Beach, Gaslamp Quarter, Esplanade, etc. because you can avoid some of the worst traffic congestion using cross-town routes.
  • San Diego

We took the day long hop on hop off trolley tour from old town. It was really fun and we would recommend. Also, just looking around old town and shopping was cool. Rent bikes at Rays right on Mission street, and ride the board walk. That is super fun too. Lots to do in San Diego so plan for extra days if possible.

We had rented this house in past directly from owner and loved all the beach chairs umbrellas boogie boards and bikes. Parking is tight but able to get 2 sienna vans in tandom spot. Head down Toulon then back in spot is the easiest. Ana is the greatest when we arrived fans were not working and ice maker not functional. She immediately brought 2 fans ice and ice trays. She is wonderful. owner used to keep kitchen stocked with seasonings condiments and all paper products. This time nothing supplied but products to get one started which was fine but we had been spoiled in the past. Will definitely be back. Thank you Ana

Parking was a bit of an issue; with a house that sleeps 10 you are bound to have guests arrive in multiple cars. The garage is VERY small; my son's Civic was the only car that we knew would fit. There is a lot across the street about a block down where we did find free parking on a crowded Sunday afternoon (after driving around awhile) and this lot allows you to leave cars overnight so this worked out well for us.

We stayed both downtown and at the Capri by the Sea, both were fabulous locations to everything, lots of fun things to do (and an unbeatable view at the Capri!) The Baja Beach Cafe was great, happy hour drinks are $16 but you get HUGE margaritas for that price, or you can get 2 smaller ones for that price as well.
  • San Diego

    Anna F.

The Belmont amusement park is just up the street. And you can see the ocean from the front deck, as well as from the room with the queen bed. Also there is a hot shower outside which was nice when we would come home from the beach to use to get the sand off. The paved path right by the beach, is just a stones throw away and really nice to walk, jog, bike down. We ate at Luigi's pizza, which is near the Belmont Park, just north of it, and it was really good. Huge pizza slices!

We would highly recommend a tour with Another Side Tour Company. We signed up for a tour of La Jolla and it was absolutely fantastic! Our tour guide was Chris. We'd love to have another tour with them. He took us to the Mount Soledad Veterans Memorial, the Coast Walk, the GliderPort, Torrey Pines Golf Course and more.

We also used UBER driver's to get around San Diego and were very pleased with that. We visited Balboa Park, Seaport Village, took the ferry over to Coronado Island, then finished the evening with drinks at "Top of the Hyatt," then walked down to Gaslamp.

The view from the balcony was breathtaking! I enjoyed watching the people and the Sunsets! My kids has a blast checking out all the shops and going to late night bonfires on the beach! My honey caught lots of fish, a small shark and a barracuda fishing on the Pier! He spent most of his time there! I just love all the friendly people and the entertainers that are on the Beach! It is a decent area, and you can tell it is becoming more gentrified. These are things unfortunately out of the control of the owner, or Vacasa but you should be aware of if you are staying here. Also, parking can be an issue and can force you to park in the areas a little closer to the bad sections.

Gabbiano pizza's around the corner was a great lunch spot... great sandwiches!
The beach was so close and the bay beach was so close too. I liked the distance to Belmont Park, within walking distance but not so close that it was noisy. Driving up the coast to the Pacific Beach Pier is totally worth it, plus there are more grocery store options in Pacific Beach. I'd also strongly encourage a day trip to La Jolla beach area (seal rock/ children's pool area). We were able to se sea lions nursing their pups, beautiful pelicans and other animals on the cliff sides. We kayaked the La Jolla caves and that was awesome and worth the money.

Very close to Belmont Park which was great for our teenagers, great ice cream shop. Perfect location for the beach, but off the boardwalk to help keep the noise down. Many restaurants in walking distance to chose from, we visited Draft, Gabianos, rode bikes down the boardwalk to PB and had dinner at World Famous Seafood and Mr Roberto's (I think that's the name) across from Starbucks was a great taco stand.

The "Best Drink Ever" from Better Buzz Coffee is incredible. I made a ritual of going every morning at 9-10ish and watching the surf school on the beach with a cold coffee. It's about a 15 minute walk but worth it to see the beach before the crowds roll in.

We've been there before and this time we were showing family around who had never been there. We weren't there long but on one gorgeous day we saw Coronado Island and Hotel Del, Seaport Village, SS Midway and Balboa Park, all of which we just loved. Sea World? Not worth the money. San Diego Zoo? We just didn't have time as that takes a whole day by itself, but we think that's worth the money. Not Sea World though (personal opinion).
