Loved the Douglas Family preserve - took a daily 3 mi walk thru this beautiful and peaceful trail. Although I loved the rental and it's wonderful location, I noticed several times during my visit that the air had a distinct oil smell. In addition, my downtown stroll was shocking to see so many homeless beggars on the street. Traveling alone, this made me uncomfortable as they shouted out, waved their arms and or seemed totally out of it. Far too many of them resulted in a very uneasy feeling and will not return to downtown. Reminded me of the Santa Cuz mall.

The Boat House at Hendry's Beach is a must. Their crab cake eggs benedict and blood orange margaritas were so good. We enjoyed watching the surfers as we were dining.

The house is nicely centrally located for the entire SB area. We walked to the SB Mission and then downtown for dinner and drinks at Arigato restaurant. We also walked up to Eilings Park and over to the Mesa. It was easy access to get to the beach as well. Arroyo Burro or Hendry's beach (as the locals call it) was a highlight of our stay, we had drinks and apps at the Boathouse and then a sunset walk on the beach! Another highlight was stand up paddle boarding at the Paddle Sports Center at Santa Barbara harbor next to Brophy Bros restaurant.

State St. thats about a half a mile away is the center point of SB. All sorts of fun and amusing things to see there. At the west end of state is the pier which is also a place to visit. However, my favorite place is Sandpiper Golf Club as I am an avid golfer and its a beautiful challenging course for you diehards!

If you are traveling with a dog, or NOT, the Douglas Family Preserve on the West end of the Mesa is well worth a visit. The preservation of a wild place is a rare sight but Santa Barbara continues to amaze.

Some friends and I spent a girl's weekend in Santa Barbara. We hit up Jane for dinner (delicious), rented some SUP from the Santa Barbara Sailing Center (awesome and great prices), and hit up the Lizard's Mouth hike for sunset one evening (it was honestly amazing -- short hike with a spectacular view).
