Dinner at Pianeta Restaurant -deliciious. Don't eat at Margs Taco Bistro in Truckee - meat was not fresh and my husband got sick.

A little disappointed with the prices of Northstar's restaurants and $6.00 for water at the top of the gondola. $140 a ticket to ski. Prices went up now that Val Ski Resort owns Northstar. :(

A little bit concerned as the area we stayed at is low priority for plowing. There was a massive storm when we stayed and we barely were able to get out of the area even with 4x4. We would have stayed another night but the neighbor said they would likely not plow that Arra for days. It was pretty difficult shoveling our car out. Other places have a hired snow guy to plow driveways out with extreme snow deposits.

The village is wonderful and convenient for world class skiing. Wish they had a supermarket that was closer. Although Safeway is a short 6 mile trip, with the MLK weekend traffic, the 6 mile trip took 3 hours one way.

There is a Rite Aid in Donner Pass - 20 mins drive away and a CVS in Tahoe City, which is 30 mins away. Outside of that you will be hard pressed to find any other large retail shops nearby.

Downtown Truckee was charming and made all the more lovely by the friendly shopkeepers in anticipation of Christmas and the holiday season. The short drive to both Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe and the surrounding ski resorts was very appealing even if there wasn't much snow at the time. We enjoyed coffee and pastries at the local Italian coffee shop, CoffeeBar, just down the road; the nearby grocery stores to buy provisions and gear shops and bars were not far for when we wanted a bit of life from town. The staff at Alpenglow are so friendly and knowledgable. As are the other local gear shops and boutiques on the main strip of Tahoe City. Check out the wonderful gourmet grocery, Market 28 for yummy treats. The owner is super passionate about food, drink and all things tasty.

Easy drive to Squaw Valley. We drove there 3 separate times-- used the Family rate to do the tram (crowded and standing only but beautiful view and fun ride), hiking up top is awesome, and a bike ride from there to Tahoe City and super lunch at Bridge Tender patio dining- super fun for the whole family.. Donner Lake is nice for swimming but pretty cold. We went to West Beach- small fee to get in but nice beach, play area for kids and life guards.

The mountain bike park is great fun, though pricey. SUP at King's Beach is really nice -- though go in the morning before afternoon winds kick up choppy water. Also, boat rentals at Tahoe City are a great way to enjoy the lake. One thing, if you plan to tube, wakeboard or waterski, get at least a shorty wetsuit if not full. The water is noticeably colder away from shore.

Also very nice to have the access to the Recreational Center, there were 3 large hot tubs which were really nice, the lap pool, gym & game room were also what made our trip enjoyable, besides the great skiing @ Northstar. Overall, we were so very pleased with the condo. We had a little difficulty finding the parking permit, which we finally found in the Vacasa binder. My family and I spent our first thanksgiving away from home and we were nervous at first because we won't sure what to expect. The moment we walked in we were very pleased with how clean and spacious the house was. The windows in the living room made the experience even better due to the great views of the snow covered trees. We felt really comfortable spending family time near the fireplace. The bedrooms were big enough for everyone espicially with the extra blow up beds that were so comfy. The kids had a fantastic time on the third level playing board games . The kitchen was perfect when preparing thanksgiving dinner. We loved how roomy it was. It was a great experience!!!

We loved Sand Harbor State Beach in Tahoe by Incline Villlage. Northstar was much bigger than Squaw, and we enjoyed an afternoon on the slopes. The beach that is associated with Tahoe Donner was quite small, and gets very crowded during the summer. Not sure it was worth $8 a person to spend the day.
  • Truckee

    Dianne S.

We did a nice hike down at Echo lake. Took the boat across and hiked back.
Also went to Donner Lake and did paddle boarding. Also a hike up to Donner Pass and to the museum.
Great lunch at Sunnyside and in Truckee at Moody's and American Grill. We did not have a good dinner at River Ranch.
Took the tram up to see the view from Squaw Valley.
We should have gone into Truckee for their Thursday weekly "festival" but hadn't known about it , so we didn't have a chance to do that. Looked like it would be fun.

I skied at Northstar all week and it's an easy ride there from the house. I really enjoy Wild Cherries cafe for breakfast/post-ski eats and that's just 15 min drive from the house on the way to skiing. Tahoe Donner has a restaurant/bar nearby the house (5 min drive) called the Lodge and they have decent food. Convenience store is nearby as well but there's a 24 Safeway not too far either. You feel like you're far from everything at this house which is great, but you're really not, things are conveniently nearby.

They also had beach chairs and kids toys for the beach which was terrific. Three of the guys brought their bikes and took the ski lift up to North Star and rode their bikes down and had a great time.

Just remember the extra step outside the sliding door. It's a doozie if u forgot it was there. Maybe some solar rope around the edge would help. That way you don't have to turn on the outside deck light. The location is convieniant to all the surroundings to see the sights.

We didn't do too much, mostly played in the snow surrounding the house and enjoying the hot tub. But expect most things to be about 30 minutes away. The drive in to Truckee is still a good 10-15 minutes. There is a small store for little items but far away. We got pizza on the hill which was not good, but low in price. We did travel to Northstar, which was fun!! The snowplay area was closed so we had to travel 30 minutes away to any sledding area. But thankfully there was plenty of snow around the cabin to enjoy!!

we came at a wrong time there was a major storm and it was hard to find location at 11pm with no lights on at the property. Knocked on a neighbor's doors to see if they can help us find cabin. we saw the trash box next to garage so we just parked cars in driveway. Turns out it wasn't ours, our garage was tuck away cars would never had made it with the snow that covered the pathway
parking was also kind of difficult. Recomend 4 wheel drive vehicle (don't use chains) i got stuck shovled snow for 4 hours had to tow my vehicle out. A tricky garage path would have been impossible to get out Neighbors across from property let us use their spots
