    1. The greenbelt hiking/biking trail (much easier to access by taking sidewalks from Rose Hill to Capital, following sidewalks on park side of Capital to the Ann Morrison Park, crossing one of the bridges to the greenbelt). Our GPS suggested Rose Hill to Latah to Americana entrance to the park, which has heavier traffic, no bike lanes for most of the ride and inadequate sidewalks. Even on the hottest days, biking was pleasant until 1:00 p.m. or so.
    2. Bogus Basin for hiking in the afternoon when it was too hot to bike/hike in Boise (for us). The drive was beautiful and the temperature was significantly cooler.
    3. Hull's Gulch for hiking, but during the cool part of the day. The mountain biking trails looked great, but we didn't bring our off road bikes.
    4. The botanical gardens - we went to a music event there after closing time. Great location, great food and beverages offered at the event we attended, and a very nice vibe for the event.
    5. For people in town during the New Belgium Tour de Fat, we highly recommend that event, which is why we traveled to Boise (long-time fans of New Belgium brewery during trips to Colorado) - the downside is the heat in August, or at least the week we were there.
    6. Favorite restaurant, hands down: Wild Root Cafe - fresh, great, beautifully prepared food for both vegans and carnivores (my husband and me). We also enjoyed BBQ4Life for a vegan/carnivore very casual place very near Ruby Street. We also tried Fork (lackluster vegan offering, but beautiful atmosphere) and Sockeye brewing (okay vegan offering, but husband loved the fresh salmon fish and chips and salmon cake) and a great rice bowl food truck at Tour de Fat. We enjoyed deli entrees from the Boise Coop and Whole foods for the rest of our meals.

Freak Alley is a must see for anyone that likes art. My youngest son took me there, and told me the story. Very cool to see, and great place to take pics. FYI - Freak Alley is an actual alley behind buildings that encourages local art projects (instead of graffiti). There is even a shop that takes some of the wall art, and puts it on shirts, etc.

"Hype Perk Cafe" was an amazing coffee place. They have what they call "white coffee" and when you get it plain with foam milk, it's so good! Or you can get it iced with white chocolate, and it tastes even better. There's also a breakfast place in the downtown area called "Goldy's", and it's definitely in my top five breakfast places for chicken fried steak and eggs. We went to the "Boise Fry Company" in the downtown area as well and the Bison Burger was the best i've ever tasted. There were many more places we visited but those were the highlights of the food area.

The Boise Art Museum is first class, better than the one in Portland Oregon and other similar size cities. We were amazed by the variety of artwork and especially enjoyed the ceramic pieces. Also, enjoyed the Botanical Gardens. We were unable to visit the Idaho State Penitentiary but would have love seeing it and especially to hear the details of one of its most famous inmates, Lyda Trueblood who married often and then killed her husbands!

Stop at Goody's for ice cream and candy on your way downtown. Big City Coffee is a great place for pastries, coffee, and tasty breakfast (try the steamed eggs!).

    The public pool is nearby.

Camels Back Park is just 4 blocks north on 11th and awesome for families, anyone looking for a great place to run or workout and just a very nice park in general. Just two blocks west is a nice spot to find many places to eat or window shop. About a mile north, we enjoyed a wonderful meal at Highlands Hollow Brewhouse, which not only had amazing food, but many fine beers and wines. Boise was amazing and the rental unit provided to us by Vacasa was perfect for our family of four and especially for the price.

Visited several of the local parks, hiked Table Rock and Camel Back. Also visited downtown street fair and took a day trip up to Twin Falls via the Thousand Springs scenic byway. There is plenty more that we would have liked to see but ran out of days.

Java Coffee & Cafe on 13th St--so close and so delicious!!

13th St Pub & Grill--also very close and super convenient for takeout.

FireFusion Studio on W. Front St--we wandered in here, admiring artwork in the window. Met metal & enamel artist Delia Dante, who explained how enamel is created and invited us to join a class when next in town. Beautiful glassblown pieces here, as well.

The Modern Hotel and Bar on W. Grove St.--a superb place for brunch. Delicious food, decadent drinks, very professional wait staff!

There are so many things Boise has to offer its hard to just name one. But if I had to pick one type of thing, it would be the rich history of the area. From the Basque center and the Idaho history museum and old state penitentiary to the short drive to some historic gold rush "ghost towns " of the area
