Make Maine your next getaway

Known for its imposing pine trees, windswept beaches, myriad lighthouses, and tiny resort towns, Maine enthralls seasonal vacation rental visitors and year-round locals alike. With more than 230 square miles of coastline and an array of inland hamlets that haven't been overly developed, it's no wonder native sons like Stephen King and Andrew Wyeth never left. The "Pine State" exudes an enthralling charm that keeps our vacation rental guests coming back year after year.

Great location close to shops and restaurants. Hot tub and fire pit made time at the house very enjoyable.

This was such a beautiful home. It was spacious and had a perfect set up for our two families with kids (4 adults, 4 kids). It was so neat to stay in an old gothic revival style home with beautiful architectural details. The inside decor just added to the character—it honored the gothic/Victorian style of the home, but also pulled in a coastal and modern vibe. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, and the library was extra cool. Our kids especially enjoyed the “puffins landing” bedroom with a cozy, built-in nook. This house is also in the perfect location. It’s in a cute neighborhood just blocks from all of the downtown businesses and ocean, and the whole town is so walkable. Belfast has great restaurants, but also doesn’t feel as congested as some other midcoast towns. We will be back! This was the perfect retreat.

All of New England has a captivating history, and Maine is no exception. From its beginnings as the home of Algonquin-speaking tribes to its status as a shipbuilding mecca, Maine has seen its fair share of settlers. Since it gained statehood in 1820, Maine has managed to retain its historic flavor as well as its appeal to well-heeled visitors. The cities of Bar Harbor, Camden, and Kennebunkport have long been summer playgrounds for the wealthy - think Kennedy and Rockefeller. But this beautiful state is not just a summer paradise. Maine is spectacular during the shoulder months, particularly in autumn when the leaves turn riotous shades of orange and purple. Winter brings plenty of snow and with it, opportunities to dogsled, ski, and moose-watch.

Take a vacation to Coastal Maine

The town of Kennebunkport lies just 30 miles from the New Hampshire border. Once a shipbuilding hub, the town is now an upscale resort, thanks to affluent summer residents such as George Bush, Sr. Relax on one of the beautiful beaches or shop for antiques in town. Head up the coast to the islands of Casco Bay, known for their artists' communities and wildlife refuges.

Portland is Maine's largest city, but with just over 66,000 residents, it retains a small-town vibe. Numerous walking and biking trails abound and the historic Portland Observatory offers a chance to admire the stars. Catch a lobster on a historic windjammer and tour the Wadsworth-Longfellow House, home of literary giant Henry Wadsworth Longfellow...and don't forget to end your day with a locally-brewed pint or two in one of the excellent breweries that give the other Portland a run for their money!

Looking for Maine beach rentals or cabins? Join the Northeasterners who vacation in bucolic Camden on Maine's midcoast. The picture-perfect town is home to the National Toboggan Championships and has been immortalized in literature and film. Acadia National Park is one of the prettiest spots in the state, with its 50 square miles of granite peaks and rocky shores. It's just minutes away from scenic Bar Harbor. Here, you can take sightseeing cruises, sail along the coast, whale watching, and even participate in horse-driving clinics.

Mountains, lakes, and more in Inland Maine

Inland Maine is a world away from the stately coastal towns. Here you'll find the quaint towns of Newry and Bethel, situated on the majestic Androscoggin River and just around the corner from the Sunday River ski slopes. The twin cities of Lewiston and Auburn boast an annual balloon fest, as well as the Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary. Go fish and moose watching in the picturesque Kennebec Valley.

The Maine Highlands feature the 200,000-acre Baxter State Park, the end of the Appalachian Trail, as well as 50 waterfalls around Moosehead Lake, a famously dog-friendly vacation spot. This is one of the best lake getaways in the entire Northeast and offers plenty of places to fish, enjoy the scenery, or take in the fresh air. It's Maine at its most natural.

Thanks to its pristine natural wonders, friendly locals, and small-town vibe, you'll be in good hands at any of our lovely Maine cabin rentals, cottages, or vacation homes.
