The lighthouse was a great way for a toddler to burn off some energy - even though it was closed for the winter, there were still great trails for the family to hike on!

Bayocean Peninsula Park was fabulous as well as the long secluded sandy beach. We walked 9 miles the first day and 11 miles the second. We saw the elk at the end of our circuit around the peninsula. The difference between the ocean, the forest and the bay was a wonderful surprise and quite the adventure. We stopped at Pelican Brewery for dinner in Tillamook on the way to the property. Really good food.

Real great beach! Great for a nice walk and nice to see a few tide pools. Great view of beach from the house. Enjoyed watching the breakers and sunsets!
Most exciting was the herd of about 20 elk we got to see early one morning almost in the front yard.

We enjoyed the peacefulness of Cape Meares and its close proximity to Oceanside and Tillamook. Favorite beach was definitely Oceanside!

Great spot, great view, close enough to Tillamook for groceries etc. no cell service but wifi works great and can handle communication that way! Very clean and great deck for BBQing!
  • Cape Meares

    Dan D.

Unfortunately the shortcut road from Cape Meares to Oceanside and Netarts where restaurants and grocery stores are located was closed while we stayed but there's still a way to get down there. The 20 minute drive clockwise to get there is scenic so what the heck. Tillamook is easy to get to.
  • Cape Meares

    Michael M.

We had a great time at the beach which is easily within walking distance. Tillamook had a lot if activities geared towards families.

The Bay Ocean spit is great for hiking, strolling or going gfor a bike ride. I took my fat bike for a spin down the beach and through the spit. It was great!

The caves at the end of the beach are really fun at low tide.

Loved getting up early and beachcombing! We usually had the beach to ourselves.

Was close enough to Tillamook to take tours of cheese factory and other sites but far enough away to feel like being in the country. Also was close to lighthouse but it was closed during our visit.
  • Cape Meares

Be prepared for limited or no cell service.
  • Cape Meares

We ran to Cape Meares lighthouse and it was a great run! Because the road is closed off it was pleasant to take the direct route and run into others going for a walk with their family and dogs.
  • Cape Meares

    Lauren W.

Remember to take a look at the tide tables (they are available in the vacasa binder) before adventuring on the beach. In Cape Meares, the entire south end of the beach disappears during high tide and can leave you scrambling through the rocks to get back safely if it catches you off guard.
  • Cape Meares

General Tao Wings at the schooner in Netarts. Also, go to the lighthouse and bring your hiking gear to do a few trails in that area. Make sure you visit the Tillamook cheese factory and get some ice cream .

The house has an amazing view. The beds were very comfortable, the pellet stove kept the house very cozy on stormy days. The kitchen very well stocked, and the short drive into Tillamook for groceries was a pleasant drive. Again the view from the deck is awesome!
  • Cape Meares

    Terry K.

The storms were incredible there. Make sure you get out when the tide is low otherwise the beach gets covered by the tides. Great agate hunting on the beach to the south!

Blue Agate in Oceanside is good.
  • Cape Meares

    Jonathan M.

Short Beach is really cool, but the road closure made it a half hour drive.
  • Cape Meares

    Cheryl W.

Point lookout has easier entrance for beach access (Elderly person in our party)
  • Cape Meares

    Donna C.

The dike walk is quite interesting. Of course, the beach can't be beat.
  • Cape Meares

    Grant S.

Other than the beautiful beach, there isn't much in walking distance. The towns of Netarts and Oceanside don't have much to offer, but the drive to Tillamook is short and ripe with activity options. If you are looking for great seafood/chowder, drive a bit north of Tillamook to Bay City and look for Pacific Oyster on a pier to the left.
  • Cape Meares

    Simerjot J.

The best thing about the property is the lovely Ocean view and the miles and miles of uncrowded beach just steps away.

We enjoyed Cape Meares State Park and saw many whales. Cape Lookout State Park was lovely also. We enjoyed the short hike to Munson Creek Falls. We had a lovely lunch at Hidden Acres Garden Center and Cafe.

Enjoyed Roseanna's in Oceanside. It is too bad that Cape Meares doesn't have the road extension to Oceanside......seems unfair to the Cape Meares folks.

  • Cape Meares

Lighthouse was so fun and long walks on the beach. We also enjoyed eating at Rosanne's Cafe by the beach. Tillamook Cheese factory is always a favorite! Mostly it's just nice to get away and read, have breakfast, and chat with an ocean view!
  • Cape Meares

Go to oceanside where the public restrooms are, go left on the beach to the end and there's a 40 foot tunnel to the other side. It's short fun and most anyone can do it. We went to the lighthouse, octopus tree and did the trails at the trail he'd where there's a 800 years old Sitka spruce.. on the other trail we went during low tide so we got to explore out on thee rocks and a cave. I loved that we had the lake with kayak s and canoes to use right at the house.

Get to the beach and head to the wall at low tide! Caves are amazing! The kids had a great time and I made a successful proposal at this lovely end of the beach. :-) However, be wary of the clams at

  • Cape Meares

    Amy T.

The beach has caves at the south end which are fun to explore, and there is a beautiful sandy spit to the north where you can see both the ocean and down into Tillamook bay. Cape Meares park and Tillamook cheese factory are nice stops.
  • Cape Meares

I have been a visitor to Cape Meares since I was a child. I cherish this place for that memory and also for the relative isolation of the location. The home I stayed in provided a glorious view of the beach and the region from a height that was still not very far from beach access. Quite an amazing combination.

The road to the lighthouse is closed. We hiked the mile and a half to the lighthouse from the closure. Beautiful hike and terrific scenery. Could have driven around to the other side in about an hour. We were also surprised to wake one morning to a herd of Elk grazing on the lawn between the house and the ocean. Pleasant surprise.

Walk on the beach any time of the day and feel completely alone. Take the trail down from the top of Cape Meares (near the light house entrance). It's down-hill all the way with a wonderful view of the village and beach. Giant trees, ferns and flowers everywhere. Even near high tide you can scramble over the rocks to get back to the house.
