Your survey links security and the property'search location. The location was superior. Quiet and accessible. Re: security, I was not happy. The dead bolts on the door would not operate or close to be fully locked. I was somewhat ill at ease while sleeping knowing this. Locks are a basic need. This needs addressing.

I am disappointed there was no exception based on this unheard of weather. We have young children with one on the way and didn't want to risk any danger. We've been to the Oregon coast many times during bad weather, but forecasters compared this storm to the severe Columbus Day storm 30 years ago. We only budget for several trips like this a year and feel we were stolen from. This was a big deal to us. We would've been happy with a fair negotiation/understanding... a day's refund, a re-booking or to work out a different deal, but Vacasa was not understanding AT ALL. They said the area "was not being evacuated yet" as if they could only refund in that case. We called local businesses near the rental and were told they were not having employees coming in and a tree already fell on a customers car. We wish we booked locally with a family owned business/rental. I will not recommend Vacasa or use this service again. We've used Trip Advisor, AirBnB, VRBO and never had an issue like this.

The lake is great for swimming, especially early in the day before the wind sets in.
The dunes and beach nearby at South Jetty are lovely, and there is great local seafood (crabs, line-caught Ling Cod and tuna, razor clams, clams, and mussels) available MANY places in Florence, but not at the big groceries like Safeway and Fred Meyer - check out the Krab Kettle and Mo's. Also there is a spot to rent Stand Up Paddle Boards, Kayaks, and stuff very nearby, and they deliver.

I expected the yard to be full fenced and it was not, but due to all the shrubs and trees I didn't feel like our dogs could really see anything that would make them bark and I enjoyed the chairs to sit in while reading outside in the afternoon. We loved the beautiful shower and wonderful water pressure! We have rented vacation homes in other places and this was by far the nicest shower! Best salad EVER at Homegrown in Florence. Our sand dune experience was awesome - check out sandland.com for a wonderful dune adventure. Honeyman State Park was a great alternative to the beach when it was too cold/windy to visit Heceta Beach next to the house. The Sea Lion caves were ok, but the sea lions are pretty far away. So perhaps not worth the $14 per person. On the other hand, the beach near the lighthouse was terrific for beachcombing and exploring the tidepools and caves. Great for kids! So much fun that we didn't even make it to the lighthouse!

The best beach to walk is the South Jetty Dunes area. A bit of a steep hill with deep, deep sand to get over to the beach, and back again but well worth it to walk the wonderful, flat beach with areas of driftwood to comb through. We would avoid the Waterfront Depot as a place to eat. Maybe the reason it is difficult to get into without a reservation is it has a full bar and only seats maybe 30 people comfortably. The Bridgewater, across the street was highly recommended to us but, closed on Tuesdays and we were leaving the next day! Two house keys would have been handy for us since my wife and I sometimes do different activities during the day. A nice place to stay and a short walk to old town, the post office and a Safeway. We look forward to using your services again in the future. A bit far to get to beaches from Florence itself four our tastes, since we usually stay in places on the coast where it is a walk to the beach instead of a drive. But, one can't change the location of the town, can one?

  • Florence

    Christoph L.

Waterfront Depot a few steps down Bay Street is an excellent restaurant, sort of an adult alternative to all the fish-and-chips and fast food places in the area. Also, the Siuslaw coffee roasters right next door make the best espresso drinks. Don't even try elsewhere. Both places are run and staffed by wonderful people. A little further up 101 close to the grocery outlet, the City Lights cinema saved us one afternoon when the weather was awful. It's run by people who care deeply about the art of movies, and they do their best to provide a pleasant experience. Also highly recommended.

    Els S.

Since I love food I found found some highlights and detractors. Loved Waterfront Depot, very lively atmosphere with great food . Found Homegrown Public House lovely place to lunch but, I thought , for me, 1285 Restobar, needs to teach some of their wait staff how to smile, be courteous and not be so condescending to customers old enough to be their mother.

Bonjour is fun if you're into shopping for clothes and accessories and I found a couple of sweet children's stores since my granddaughter had an upcoming birthday.

I would have gone on hikes but the weather wasn't agreeable.

I enjoyed the small town feel.

Sand boarding was fun but a lot of work, we rented from Sand Masters Park. The dunes are a great adventure and we loved the sand rail ride from Sand land Adventures. Very enjoyable food and atmosphere in old Town by the river.

That beautiful coastline. It is amazingly relaxing. You can see the Heceta lighthouse from the living room of the beach house. The beach house is incredibly clean and well stock with everything (we didn't think of). We honestly did not want to leave it.

There is so much beauty to experience in this area. From the dunes to the lakes to the beaches, there is no shortage of wonder! Get out there and see it! Also, don't forget to unwind at one of the fine eateries the Old Town area of Florence. I recommend Waterfront Depot for classic fine dining or Spice for seafood with unique preparation.

We always love the beach! Which at Peggy's place you can't beat the location. It is right on the beach so if it is raining you can still enjoy the ocean while staying nice and dry inside the house. You have wonderful views! on this trip we went to "old Town" Florence one day and found this adorable tiny park right in the middle of old town. Great for those family pictures.

The sea lion caves were fantastic. There were 35-40 sea lions in the caves. The waves were dramatic because of a storm that was going through. It was well worth the trip. And we were very pleased to hear that it is owned by a family. We love contributing to businesses that are not state run.
