Right in Rockaway Beach we were served a VERY good espresso at R&R Espresso; and ate delicious pastries at Beach Bakeshop! In Garibaldi we took the dinner train and had a wonderful experience - I highly recommend it if it's available and you have the time/$$.

We had fun visiting the Wheeler bakery and antique stores, the bakery in Garibaldi, Tillamook Cheese Factory, Debbie D's and Blue Heron in Tillamook, and the Nehalem Bay Winery. And the Big Wave in Manzanita had great food for all.

The Old Oregon Smokehouse, yes we understand it's not much to look at but the quality and value of the food can't be beat. Such a bargain for a crab cocktail, yes it's expensive however you get a ton of crab for the price.

Flamingo Jim's is a great place for souvenirs and they are extremely helpful! They even mailed a necklace to us after we left. The SandDollar Restaurant has amazing food and is close enough to walk. Loved being so close to the beach!!

After our day at the beach, we had a great time picking up souvenirs at Flamingo Jims- which is an experience in and of itself! Very fun and unique shop, that goes beyond just a run-of-the-mill gift store. Also, they allow small dogs inside the store, if they are held (an obvious bonus for pet owners)!

Since we visited during Christmas, a lot of places were closed. But we didn't feel like we ever needed to leave for anything.

We tried a couple of the local restaurants which were both fabulous in price and above all taste in food, we also stopped by a couple shops and were pleasantly surprised that is consisted of wonderful items not just the normal coastal "Junk" made in china.

Trash and Treasures was a cute little shop with the SWEETEST people ever running it. It was a Tuesday in the off season so it's a much quieter town than it is in the Summer. They were not expecting a group of 30 something year old women to walk in that day. They were delighted and incredibly kind! The store has a lot of neat little treasure and knickknacks. Nehalem Bay Winery is just about 15 minutes away and we enjoyed every minute of our wine with the man working the tasting room that day. I think we all left with a bottle or two. We also hiked Cape Falcon which was incredible and not too far from Rockaway.
  • Rockaway Beach

Besides walking on the beach right outside the condo, we also enjoyed walking at Oswald West State Park, which is a short drive from the condo.

Very central to nearby Tillamook where you can enjoy a self guided tour of the factory, and of course get some of their freshly made ice cream. Additionally, for all the flight enthuisiasts as well as other fascinated by aircraft, do check out the Air Museum in Tillamook as well; very neat place.

  • Rockaway Beach

    Lisa A.

We always visit Flamingo Jims (souvenir shop) in Rockaway!
The local bakery/sandwich shop is great as well!
If you visit Tillamook, The Blue Herron French Cheese Company is a must! It is just past the Tillamook Cheese Factory. They have a wonderful deli, a great selection of gourmet foods and plenty of samples, great gifts too!
You can feed the animals there too.....great for the kids!
Just up the road from the condo, is the Newhalem Crab Jetty /boat rentals.
Where you can get fresh crab, clams & oysters, they boil them for you.
The best part of Rockaway, is the condo right on the beach. Unit #205 was spectacular! Modern, clean, spacious and comfortable. We could not have asked for a better ocean view! This was our second trip there. Our family & dog LOVE it!

Beautiful, quiet town area with a great beach that is close to other places along the coast. The house is only 3 small blocks from the beach. The house is in a safe area surrounded by mountains and beauty. The beach was lovely and we enjoyed watching the family of seals in the area near the jetty each morning and evening. We collected sand dollars on the beach. We loved the clouds, rain, fog and mist that enveloped the mountains during the fall.

Buttercup in Nahalem. Has the absolute best homehand icecream and chowder. So worth visiting, and don't forget the vintage store next door. It's not over priced like all the other shops on the coast. You can still find a bargain.
At Pacific oyster in Garibaldi I had the best whole crab of my life. And I grew up in Alaska. So fresh, so delicious. They sale it at Markey price.

I imagine the still-short distance to the beach would've felt closer had we visited during dry weather.

Loved the Marina not far from the condo. We got fresh crab to go. Cooked while we waited, hot and ready. Can't get any fresher.
Wheeler was awesome if you like antiques. All the surrounding towns are wonderful. We took a longer drive to Depot Bay. Whales were in the harbor all day, had lunch and made a day of it. Schooners Cove for lunch in Netarts was a true highlight. Farm to table fresh. Try their garden salad it is like a work of art and so delicious i had to go back again. So good!!!!!!

It's right in the middle of a lot of fun! We went to Tillamook, drove (and hiked partly) around the Cape Meares loop, hiked near Neakhanie Mountain, and simply hung out and had a couple beach fires at Rockaway! The train looked like fun, but we didn't get a chance to do that unfortunately.

The town was a little too quiet for our liking. Most shops weren't open during the week and the grocer in town was more of a convenience store. Up the coast in Nehalem there are some great options, and even further into Manzanita for food and shopping needs.

I do love that the rental is right on the beach and you could walk out.

Very friendly people on the beach, not too crowded. Lots of dogs but most owners were conscientious, having their dogs on leashes or keeping them close when we came by with our dog but most people were happy to let them play together once peaceful introductions were made.

Great Charter fishing out of Garibaldi. (Garibaldi Charters). About 15 minutes South of Rockaway.
Love walking the beach in Rockaway. The beach is just steps away from the back door. Bring a kite for windy days.
Cute shops to visit just a mile down the road. Nice places to eat.
Grocery stores in Rockaway are very expensive though, you can save a lot of money if you drive South to TIllamook and shop for groceries there.
Tillamook Cheese factory is fun to visit too.

We have always loved Rockaway Beach. The Nedonna Beach area is great for the driftwood and tidepools on the jetty. Rockaway Beach is laid back and has all the essentials that you need. Tillamook Cheese Factory is always our favorite, especially for the ice cream. Neahkahnie Mountain is a great hike (and the cliffs below).

We loved the Old Oregon Smokehouse for fish n chips. It's a hole in the wall, but super fresh food! We also found an amazing spot for tide pooling- just north of Garibaldi, by the 3 Graces. Make sure you go at low tide-
Also, make note that many of the Rockaway restaurants and shops are closed Tuesdays. We headed to Tillamook and found plenty to do. Several places only take cash.

The beach was great, so close to the house. Since we were there over July 4th, We didn't realize how close the fireworks were. The deck gave us the perfect view. Be warned that the fireworks and train can be really loud if you have young children who still nap.

Take a day just to drive up the coast and stop at the many places along Pacific Coast Hwy 101. The Tillamook Forest Center was fantastic and check out Lattes & Lures near there for a delicious treat after. The train ride along the coast was fun but you have make a reservation for the dinner option a week in advance. Youngs River Falls near Astoria was a great stop - the waterfall was breathtaking (we would have preferred Munson Creek Falls but reviews told us trail closed half way to to when we were there)

We ate at 2 restaurants in town. The sand dollar- staff were nice, food was bland and expensive, view of ocean from where we sat was really nice, overall we didn't care to return. Grumpys- we left before our waiter even came to our table. A couple dining across from us wispered "good decision" as they saw us get up to leave and we shared an awkward giggle. None of the staff seemed to know what they were doing and the aforementioned couple tried to make a request to their waitress and she treated them like idiots. Wouldn't recommend. We also grabbed some ice cream from a shop on the main street. The ice cream was good, the service was super awkward and the woman and (I'm assuming) her son who served us had no desire to make the customers feel welcomed. We felt like we were burdening them. HOWEVER just outside Rockaway Beach, in Gribaldi, there's a new restaurant (they had been open 6 days when we ate there) that was perfect. I don't know the name and they were so new they didn't have a sign yet, but was next to the motel there on the main street, we had burgers, blt, fries, all of it was wonderful. Staff was amazing, we went back the last day and ate again, same great experience.

The Jetty Fishery, just a few minutes North of Rockaway Beach, was our go-to for fresh catch seafood. We always cook up fresh seafood when we stay at the beach. We caught our own lunch for the day! Fabulous. The environment is very family oriented. Down to earth. We come to Rockaway Beach regularly. It is our family favorite place to stay on the Oregon Coast. Easy access to the beach, fun pirate ship play structure in the center of town, great little friendly shops, & great coffee shops, eateries, food carts, smoke house, & R & R coffee drive through. There is a old fashioned train that runs through town that is really a treat to see. We haven't taken a ride on it but that sounds like it would be fun & a beautiful viewing opportunity. For a fun crazy shopping experience you must go to Flamingo Jims.

Yes! You must go to Kelley's Marina (just a short 4 mile jaunt north) for the best fresh crab and fishing experience. Fun for kids, mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, we even saw folks with dogs there.

Grumpy's Café has great food and is especially noted for big breakfasts. Visit the small shops; many are open in off season. We especially liked Flamingo Jims, the little antique store, and Troxel's rock garden. The beach access by the south jetty was fantastic, especially with all the drift wood along the beach from recent storms. Plus you are close to Garibaldi and Tillamook for other services and shopping.
  • Rockaway Beach

    Miriam B.

With the beach just outside the door, you're able to visit the beach as much as you'd like. Warm up in front of the fireplace as you look out on the surf. Quick and scenic drives to the Tillamook Cheese Factory in one direction and Mo's Restaurant in the other direction. After meal walk to Hay Stack rock to look at the tide pools on low tide

If coming through Tillamook on your way to Rockaway...must go to Blue Heron (and T-cheese Factory if you must/want). But, the Blue Heron has a small farm kind of feel and the samples are EXCELLENT. Plus, they have a wine tasting bar (if that's your thing) and great menu to eat something too.
  • Rockaway Beach

    Jennifer D.

Downie's in Bay City is a great diner for breakfast and lunch. Kendra's in Tillamook is great for lunch and dinner. The beach in Oceanside is quite beautiful and the there are lots of shops and antique stores to the North (Wheeler, Nehalem, and Manzanita).

Stay away from the local "new" bakery on the main street. It is extremely expensive. There is a sign on the counter indicating that if you are a residence of Rockaway you pay a different price than non-residents. We purchased 2 Americano coffees, 3 scones, and two Asiago Cheese dinner roles. $25.00.

From Rockaway we went South to Cape Mears lighthouse and of course the Tillamook Cheese factory. Seeing the oyster shucking at the Pacific Seafood Company in Bay City was interesting. Even when they aren't shucking the oysters, there is a looping video in the dining area showing how they are farmed and harvested. Don't miss the mountain of shells piled near the highway!
In Rockaway, I liked the "Rock Garden" ~ a funky little place full of interesting rocks that you can take as you want. They do ask for a donation but it's totally voluntary.

It's amazing to have a beautiful beach just a few steps from the back door. Very neat as well being able to view the majestic 'Twin Rocks' right from the dining room. My wife and I find Rockaway to be in a great central location with Cannon Beach only a 30 min drive to the north and Tillamook only a few minutes to the south. The house is only a short walk also from the main Rockaway business strip. The Sand Dollar restaurant on the beach is a bit pricey but the clam chowder is very tasty.

We loved everything about Oregon. This was our first trip and we had a blast! We were told about a local hike up to a beautiful tree spot that was easy for everyone to walk there. It was breath taking and a great way to finish off a day of shopping in Rockaway and dinner.

The beach right in front of our place was beautiful. The sunsets in the evening were amazing. The only wish we had, was an easier access to the beach. The people next door let us use their path in the evening, so we did not have to navigate the rocks.

When I booked this home I read about a stream in the back yard, The way I had it in my mind was a babbling stream with rocks. It was stagnet water with bushes so high and thick you could barely get back there to look.

Definitely go closer to the Twin Rocks for a photo session: drive to NE (not NW) 7th Ave, turn right on it and park in the tight parking space close to beach access, and walk towards the beach for the closest view of the Twin Rocks. Also stroll leisurely in the market area, if you have time.

Rockaway Beach doesn't have much in the way of restaurants. ..but I recommend, without reservation, nearby Kelly's Marina....rent your boat and baited crab pots, bring in the crab that you catch and they boil it on the spot. Nicest people! Also recommend the Tsunami Bar & Grill in nearby Wheeler (just 6 miles). Their seafood chowder is the best on the coast and the salmon fish &
    chips is divine

Awesome breach front location and we can hear the ocean. The building at the front blocks some views but we can see the Twin Rock and the sunset. I setup an action camera + tripod and did some time lapsed photography (10 sec intervals). Seeing the clouds moving in and out quickly is awesome. Rockaway Beach is an old town. Not such activities that bring excitments. Tillamook Cheese Factory Tour and the Rockaway Beach train are very good.

The new Sand Dollar Restaurant was amazing! Great service, location, and delicious food. We went there multiple times during our trip.

Avoid the Dos Rocas Mexican Restaurant though - we waited over an hour for two meals, subpar food, received no apology, and then the waiter charged our card for the wrong amount after it all.

We got some wonderful fresh salmon and oysters in Garibaldi fish market (the place with the big pile of oyster shells) and cooked them on the grill. There are lots of fun shops to visit in town-just a short walk along the beach. We happened to land during Pirate Festival which was fun for the children. We also rode the train to Garibaldi and back with my two grandsons and some local pirates and red coats-super cool. Nice easy access to the beach and long, long beach for walking, running and sand castles.

This house sits right on the beach, which allows for daily walks. Just a 15 minute drive to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. Also would recommend stopping by the Tillamook Goodwill. Awesome selection of clothing, if you forgot something. I would also recommend stopping by Richard's in Rockaway. It's the shop with all the bright colored birdhouses. He has a very unique shop, hand crafted wood, glass and jewelry all created by Richard. Just not the honey, the local bees made that.

We really enjoyed the south jetty at Manhattan Beach. Also, in the neighborhood was a small pond that we were able to put our personal kayak in. These small coastal dune ponds/lakes have community boxes stocked with life jackets. There was a larger lake on the east side of 101 called Lake Lytle that was a good put in for the kayak.

I've been to this beach many times and usually stay at a friends Beach House. This time there were too many ladies to fit in one house so we rented Aunties House. It was very clean, comfortable and conveniently located to the beach and shopping. We walked everywhere!

Our favorite place is the Little White Church Antique store. I almost always fine some good treasures there and this trip was no exception.
  • Rockaway Beach

    Maureen L.

The beach itself was all we needed! We did travel north about 30 minutes to hike Neahkahnie Mountain which was gorgeous - do wait for a clear day, though, as we arrived at the top to see only fog even though we could hear the ocean below! Still a gorgeous woodsy hike, though. The scenic overlooks around that section of the highway - between Neahkahnie and Arch Cape - are incredible and worth driving just a few more minutes north to see. Also - get your groceries in Tillamook before heading there as the little "market" in Rockaway Beach is more of a convenience store and the next nearby grocery in Manzanita was pretty pricey. The Blue Heron cheese and wine tasting place in Tillamook is also a fun stop to load up on wine before heading to the beach!

st. marys church by the sea had a perfect 2 person bench for oceanfront sunrise. the only downside was the waste management plant at the end of the block, cant really do anything about that just a smelly inconvenience when your down wind from it

Rockaway is a great place for beach time. As for the town itself, there's a couple cute shops and cafés, but really it's more about beach location and enjoying time there.

We tried to go to Sand Dollar for breakfast, but they don't serve breakfast, we ended up at Pirate's Cove (a little south of Rockaway) and had a wonderful breakfast! The antique shops in Wheeler were excellent!

We enjoyed the Tillamook Air Museum on this trip. It was a first, and our boys (ages 9 and 10) thought it was one of the highlights of the vacation! As always, you can't beat the beautiful, practically private beaches.

Grateful for the local market. We forgot spices/herbs and the kitchen only had salt, pepper, sugar. We were able to buy various items at the market , walking distance, including a soccer ball!

You suggested the restaurant where your office is located, which looks nice, but to take a large group is close to impossible as they do not take reservation as we found out on Monday. With minors the wait would have been long and they were kinda rude. So we called down to Pirates Cove and got right in and had a fantastic meal. I would tell groups over four people to call first before loading two cars and heading into town.

We love visiting Flamingo Jim's, getting coffee at the roadside coffee stand and at the café across the street from the condo (Offshore Grill), we enjoy going to Mass at the beautiful church right off the beach, St. Mary's by the Sea, running on the beach in the mornings, watching the sunsets from the decks of the condo... and just enjoying the beauty and family!

The Beach along Rockaway is fantastic, very beautiful. The walk from the house to the beach is less than 1 minute.
We highly recommend visiting Kelly's Brighten Marina. They will either cook you the freshest crab you have ever eaten or rent you everything you need to catch your own. They are about 3 miles North on Highway 101.

I love Rockaway Beach, it has such a calmness to it. The beach is gorgeous and the town, nor the beach is crowded. You can walk down the side streets with your dogs without having to worry about watching for cars. We really enjoy Manzanita, too, so we made the short drive north a number of times. My fiancé stopped in the Offshore Grill and Coffehouse, and was pleased with the friendliness and the coffee he ordered.

The cottage is very close to surrounding beach towns that offer very good restaurants and shopping experiences. The Twin-Rocks along Rockaway Beach are gorgeous to view and the access to the beach is quite close to the cottage itself. Fun area to visit and luckily the March weather was especially nice during our visit to your area. Lots of Sand Dollars were found during the early mornings **LOW TIDES**.

There is a shop down the road that is full of little curiosities. You can identify it by all the birdhouses. Richard, the owner, has everything from fresh local honey to museum quality artifacts from ancient china. By far one of the coolest shops i've ever been in. The tillamook factory is a must see for the cheese/fudge/ice cream lover... great place to go for lunch :)

Because March is too cold to spend much time on the beach we explored local venues. The Tillamook Cheese Factory was well worth our time. The Tillamook Country Smoker outlet store in Bay City has great values on beef jerky type products. An awesome day trip was to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse and Outstanding Natural Area in Newport. Check the tide schedule to make sure you get to explore the tide pools.
