Sisters recently developed short-term rental regulations that limit the zones in which STRs are allowed and their proximity to other short-term rentals. Rules outside the city limits in Deschutes County are more relaxed. If the home is within the city limits of Sisters, the owner must complete the city's application and pay various fees. There is an 8.99 percent City of Sisters Transient Room Tax. If the home is outside the city limits of Sisters, guests pay the Deschutes County Transient Room Tax of 8 percent instead. The guest-facing State Transient Lodging Tax is 1.8 percent as of July 1, 2016, but will be reduced to 1.5 percent by July 1, 2020.
