About Sunset Key
Each and every island of the Florida Keys has something special to make the sunny climate and sandy beaches worth a visit. But even in such a beautiful area, there's nothing quite like Sunset Key. Located just offshore of Key West, the reclusive, luxurious community is a must-see for those in search of an utterly unique experience for their next trip to Florida. From the unique history and lifestyle of the island to the stunning selection of resort amenities, it's hard to go wrong with a stay in one of our vacation rentals on Sunset Key.

History and Lifestyle on Sunset Key

Sunset Key's official name is the decidedly less tropical, "Tank Island." The man-made isle was created by the military in 1965 to serve as a refueling station during the Cold War. Decades later, the island was sold to real estate developers, who took advantage of the gorgeous tropical surroundings of the island to create a first-class resort destination: Sunset Key.

Unlike other resort towns, Sunset Key makes no compromises in creating an isolated atmosphere free of intrusions. You'll reach the island from Key West by ferry, where you'll be greeted with a no-car, no-shop community (not even a grocery store). There are no distractions between you, your lovely vacation home, and the world-class beaches.

What to Do on Sunset Key

That's not to say that the tiny island is bereft of things to do. For starters, the beachfront Latitudes restaurant will take care of all of your dining needs with top-notch American cuisine, while gorgeous ocean views and fresh air augment your meal. If you prefer to dine at home, however, a grocery delivery service is available).

Sunset Key Guest Cottages, meanwhile, offers guests resort features like a private beach and a pristine shared swimming pool. A must is the resort's world-famous spa, which offers guests a personal spa concierge, massages and services right on the beach, and private dinners for couples after relaxing and rejuvenating. Thanks to the tropical location, you're free to enjoy all of these comforts year-round!

Day Trips from Sunset Key

The main destination from Sunset Key is the adjacent town of Key West. Bars, restaurants, and shops galore await you, as well as water sports opportunities at the seaside Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park on the southeastern side of town. Guests in search of a little culture can stop by the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum to learn about one of America's most beloved writers.

If you need even more adventure, the majesty of the Florida Keys stretches out to the east, from nearby Sugarloaf to distant Marathon.
