Taxes and fees for Chelan vacation rental owners are minimal but nonetheless important. Owners collect a 6.5 percent Washington State sales tax, 3.7 percent Chelan County sales and lodging tax, and a 1 percent city sales and lodging tax. Unless your HOA has limitations for short-term rentals, there are no additional fees beyond the normal utilities and upkeep costs. Within city limits, short-term rentals may only operate in certain zones. Outside the city—in Chelan County—only one area permits STRs explicitly. The county is considering changes to its rules and may require a Conditional Use Permit in some residential zones.
