About Montezuma
Montezuma exemplifies everything unique about Costa Rica. The sleepy village features a stunning stretch of coastline and rougher waves for surfing not too far away. As you move away from the coast, dense rainforest foliage engulfs and surrounds you. If you're looking for the best of Costa Rica's serenity and natural beauty, your search ends here - our Montezuma vacation rentals are what you've been looking for!

Where is Montezuma?

Montezuma lies at the southeastern edge of the Nicoya Peninsula, in Puntarenas Province. It's a hundred-mile drive from the international airport in San José, but the journey is more than worth it once you arrive at this peaceful oasis. There's a bus stop near the center of town, but don't be in a rush to get around - the breathtaking sights and fresh air you'll encounter on the area's footpaths are their own incredible reward.

Beach Life in Montezuma

The white sands of Playa Montezuma offer easy access to the gentle waters of the Gulf of Nicoya. The beach's rockier borders can make for some truly incredible photos, as well as a nice change of scenery. After a relaxing morning spent with a good book on your fluffiest beach towel, head into the village to pick up some refreshments.
Soda el Balcon del Mar is conveniently located near both the bus stop and the beach, featuring daily fresh fish to sample. If you'd like to stay refreshed while the kids burn some energy, try the Latin American fare of Organicó near the local playground. When you've had your fill, follow a gorgeous, winding jungle trail northeast to Playa Grande. Not only is this beach larger and more isolated, but the rougher waves are perfect for giving surfing a try!

Natural Beauty Near Montezuma

As fantastic as Montezuma's beaches are, they're far from the only things in the area worth seeing. Chief among these is Montezuma Falls, easily accessible from a jungle trail beginning a short distance south of town, where the rushing waters of Rio Montezuma build into a series of awe-inspiring cascades. The waterfall is gorgeous at any time of day, but if you want the ideal atmosphere for your trip, leave your vacation rental in the early morning.
Take your time on the hike back to admire the jungles before heading past Playa Grande to see the sea turtles at Romelia Wildlife Reserve. If you drive down the coastal road south, you'll reach the massive Cabo Blanco Absolute Natural Reserve. Cabo Blanco offers visitors stunning views, bracing hikes, and the chance to see exotic animals like orca whales and howler monkeys!
Montezuma may lack the amenities or bustling atmosphere of towns like Jacó, but it more than makes up for it with the breathtaking scenery. Get started on your next Costa Rican getaway now and plan an amazing adventure with one of our Montezuma vacation rentals!
