About Fano
Attractions

Discover a haven for swimmers and sunbathers in Fano, one of the most popular beach resort cities in the beautiful Marche region of Central Italy. This coastal metropolis of roughly 63,000 residents is known and loved for its wide sandy beach on the Adriatic Sea, but it is Fano's rich history that sets it apart from so many other resort destinations. Visitors can soak in the sun, explore centuries-old churches and fortifications, and walk in the footsteps of Augustus and Julius Caesar, and then return to comfort in your own charming, Fano vacation home!

Where is Fano, Italy?

As the third-largest city in Marche, the bustling seaside port of Fano marks the meeting of the Metauro River and the Adriatic Sea. Located on the site of the ancient Fanum Fortunae (Temple of Fortune), this land was occupied by Julius Caesar in 49 B.C. and fortified by Augustus in the years following. Today, Fano sits eight miles south of the resort town of Pesaro, 38 miles north of the regional capital of Ancona, and 27 miles east of historic Urbino, while the beauty and culture of Florence is just 130 miles west.

Things to Do in Fano

Although the cool Adriatic waves and a sea of blue beach umbrellas are the city's most well-known attractions, Fano is also home to a number of fascinating historic landmarks. Begin your visit by walking through Arco d'Augusto, a famous symbol of the city and part of Augustus' ancient wall fortifications - two-thirds of which remain standing today.

Interested in learning a bit of local history? Spend an afternoon at Museo Civico inside the Palazzo Malatestiano, where you can examine artifacts excavated in Fano over the past centuries, or visit El Palazzo della Ragione, which dates back to the year 1299 and is currently the site of a museum with works of art and historic artifacts.

With a stay in one of our Fano vacation rentals, you'll also be close to several awe-inspiring churches. Most notably, the 12th century Fano Cathedral and the Church of Santa Maria Nuova, which features several works by renowned painter, Perugino. If history is your style, you might check out our vacation rentals amidst the stunning architecture of Rome to the south.

You'll also be just 44 miles from the Grotte di Frasassi, an 11-mile series of underground caves that date back 1.4 million years.

If you're in search of more seaside vistas, the famous velvet sand of Senigallia is just 15 miles south, and you'll find plenty of sunbathing opportunities in the neighboring resort town of Pesaro, eight miles to the north.
