Located on the beautiful Mediterranean island of Mallorca in the Balearic Islands of Spain, Consell is near many other small towns on the island - perfect for seeing festivals, eating out at restaurants, and then coming back home to your cozy vacation home.

Regardless of where you're staying on Mallorca, a trip to this charming little town in the center of the island will give you an authentic Mallorcan experience steeped in old-world charm.

Where is Consell, Mallorca?

Consell is situated at the foot of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains and is just 15 miles north of the Son Sant Joan International Airport in Palma, Mallorca's capital.

Let someone else do the driving and take a bus from Palma to Consell or rent a car and take your time. The highway from Palma to the charming town of Inca is the quickest route there, but why not take the old Ma-13 highway for a more relaxed drive and enjoy the Spanish countryside? You're on vacation, after all!

Art and Festivals in Consell

Consell is rich in history and art. It is believed that the village was first established in the 13th century. Pieces of ceramic and ancient coins occasionally turn up in the area, indicating that Consell may have been a resting point for soldiers during Roman times. Art history buffs will want to visit the Parish Church of Our Lady of Visitation to view the reredos of Saint Joseph and the 19th-century carving of the Virgin Mary and 16th- and 17th-century figures of Christ.

Consell is also host to several fiestas each year. The fiesta of San Antonio Abat, a blessing of animals, happens on January 17. The fiesta of Sant Bartolome occurs in many towns throughout Mallorca, Consell being one of them, and features open air concerts, folk dancing, and theater. The Autumn Fair features wine from area vineyards the third Sunday in October. More regularly, there's a large car boot sale in the Consell's industrial area every Sunday, and if you're there on a Thursday, check out the weekly flea market - the island's largest - in the Plaza Mayor.

Mallorca's Wine Country

Consell is right in the heart of wine country in Mallorca. Treat yourself to one of the daily wine tours on the island and ask for a guide that speaks your language (English, Spanish, or German available) for a relaxing and stunning trip through area vineyards. If you'd rather not venture too far out, a visit to Bodega Ribas might be just what you're looking for. Family owned since 1711, Bodegas Ribas is the oldest vineyard on the island and located right in Consell. Indulge in a tour, including wine tasting, and learn about the history of the vineyard and the wine making process.

Places to Eat in Consell

After spending the day exploring local vineyards, plan on having dinner at Es Rustic Restaurant and Cafe. This little eatery is tucked away and will give you an authentic Italian family-style restaurant experience. Have dinner inside or on the terrace and enjoy the beauty of the unfolding of a multi-course Italian meal while being treated with true Italian hospitality.

Cas Ros, a long-time fixture and local club in Consell, is the place to go for late-night drinks, music, and dancing.
