About Muro

Tucked away in rural Mallorca, the municipality of Muro offers a unique way to experience an often-ignored part of the Balearic Islands. The area has amazing access to resort-quality beach towns, while still offering a relaxing rustic atmosphere rich in Spanish history, culture, and cuisine.

History and Culture in Muro

Located deep in the municipality of the same name, Muro is a sleepy town in north-central MallorcaWhile far less flashy than Playa de Muro to the northeast, the town serves as the capital of the municipality and offers an incredible array of options for visitors looking for a memorable day of sightseeing. Much of the architecture of the town is centuries old, with the 12th-century parish church and Mare de Déu de la Consolació sanctuary from the Reconquista standing out as particular highlights. Just as important as the stone towers are the historical tidbits within. The Ethnological Museum of Mallorca, built in a former mansion, offers incredible artifacts to observe as well as recreations of life in Muro centuries ago.

As fascinating as Muro's past can be, don't forget to live in the now! Muro holds plenty of festivals throughout the year, with Easter festivals in the springtime, the fireworks of San Juan in June, the Autumn Fair's pumpkin-themed celebrations in November, and a Christmas Market in December. No matter when you stay in one of our vacation rentals, stop by the Sunday morning market for some hand-made souvenirs or visit one of the town's many restaurants. Everything from sweet pastries to savory tapas awaits you!

Seaside Fun in Playa de Muro

No trip to the Balearic Islands would be complete without visiting the ocean, and Muro's coastal town certainly doesn't disappoint! A long stretch of soft, white-sand beach awaits you, lined with amenity-rich resorts and more delicious restaurants to try.

When you're not swimming in the waves of the Balearic Sea or sunbathing on the beach, you can take in even more local landmarks near your vacation rental. The S'Albufera Natural Park offers a great chance to explore Mallorca's wetlands, while the Torre d'enfilació is an amazing sight surrounded by forests.

Day Trips from Muro

There's just as much fun to be had around the municipality of Muro as there is within it. To the south is the coastal village of Can Picafort, which offers more sandy beaches to explore and beachside bars with cool drinks to enjoy in the shade. Northward, you'll find the legendary resort town of Alcúdia. In addition to more conventional beach activities, the waves of Alcúdia are ideal for surfing. Don't worry if you don't know how - plenty of local companies will be happy to offer you lessons!
