Known as the "Gateway to the South of Chile," Bío Bío invites visitors to experience urban culture, rural beauty, and mountainous grandeur. The striking Andes range borders the region to the east, while the Pacific Ocean lines the region to the west. Settle into your Bío Bío vacation rental and let the adventure begin!
Concepción is Bío Bío's hub, with bustling commerce, lively culture, and abundant parks. Moderate year-round temperatures in the 60's and 70's Fahrenheit make this city, about 300 miles south of Santiago, a destination during both hemispheres' winters. The coastal area just 12 miles west is a hidden gem. Visit the photo-worthy cove of Ramuntcho to take in this area's rocky cliffs and teal waves.
Back in town, there's plenty of historic beauty to explore. The Parque Ecuador, a green strip bordering the south side of town, shades visitors with groves of trees. Take a stroll just up the road and admire the architecture of the Universidad de Concepción or one of the other higher learning institutions nearby.
Journey inland to the mountain town of Chillán for adventures in skiing, thermal hot springs, and hiking. Visit the historic Chillán Cathedral for a photo of the unique structure, and pick up some handmade goods afterward at the Mercado. Hikers looking for a challenging trek can visit the area's Valle de Aguas Calientes, a collection of hot springs and thermal rivers nestled in the mountains.
While you're in Chillán, don't miss the Salto del Itata, a plunging waterfall a few miles outside of town. Speaking of waterfalls, about 50 miles south you'll find the stunning falls of Saltos del Laja near Los Ángeles. Don't forget your camera! While you're in the area, take a day to explore the Laguna del Laja National Park, a spectacular haven of waterfalls, peaks, and valleys at the foot of the Andes.
Booking one of our Bío Bío vacation rentals is just the beginning of your adventure. Explore all the natural beauty and engaging culture this region has to offer!
